Winner Winner. Don't think I've ever seen a ball hit as hard as Hollidays home run. Yeesh.

BigRedChief 09-13-2014 10:40 AM

The Cardinals had a players only meeting on Friday afternoon. It was called by Holliday. He, Waino and Molina spoke.

The gist.......We have a chance at another World Series, we have the talent, There are no guarantees you will ever get this chance again in your career. Let's get it going.

First players only meeting this year.

Good to see Rosenthal again. Best he's looked all season.

O.city 09-14-2014 07:41 PM

Offense hitting the ball better (Holliday for sure). Still not sure it's good enough (it's not) but the pitching is really good right now.

It's Molina. All of our pitchers have improved. In Rosey's case Molina convinced both him and Miller to use the curve ball more often. Probably not the first time they have been told that but for whatever reason when Molina came back they are both bringing the "A" game.

We tool care of business this weekend. We have played down to the competition too much this year. Glad it didn't happen this weekend. We also set up the pitching staff for Milwaukee. Have a full bullpen ready. We sweep the Bucks again, its over.

It's not Milwaukee I'm worried about; it's Pittsburgh, and we're done playing them for the year.

'Hamas' Jenkins 09-14-2014 09:23 PM

At this point, I just want the Dodgers to keep winning or totally crater. I want no part of them in a series. Hate having to match up against Kershaw. If they run down the Nats, we'll dodge them in the first round. If the Giants catch them, same deal unless we overtake the Nats.

Yeah, I know. I think the Brewers don't even make the playoffs. Pitt does. Which I'd like to happen. I hope Pitt wins the play in game and then beat the Nationals and we get HFA for the NLCS. Assuming we can beat Kershaw a 3rd time in the playoffs in the last 2 years. He's tough. But if Waino is on, he can be just as tough on the Dodgers.

I was just saying that if we win 3 more without a loss. The math becomes very tough for Pitt to overtake us without us melting down.

Remember 2011. Anything, no matter how ****ing crazy, can happen.

We've needed one win with three games to go three times in the last 29 years and failed to do it, and it's cost the team two pennants and a WS.

2006 and 2011 I thought we had no chance in the playoffs. 2004 and 2005 I thought we would win the WS. Fickle game.

I don't think the players are taking it for granted or coasting. The players calling a players only meeting on Friday reminded everyone that those playoff and WS championship dreams can disappear really fast.

O.city 09-15-2014 08:06 AM

The dodger offense seems to me to be more scary than the nats as well. Frankly I'd like to avoid them altogether until the LCS.

On a side note, are any of you going to try an go to a playoff game?

We are only out 3.5 games for HFA in the NL. Washington trips up, ya never know. We are only 1/2 game back of LA for the 2nd best record. Thats defintely doable. I'd much rather play 3 at Bush than out in LA. LA is looking a lot better lately but they still don't look like world beaters after you get past Kershaw.

Saw these stats...........

Rosey:
Last 10 appearances
9.2IP 5H 5BB 0.00 era 1.03 whip 8 saves

Miller:
Last 5 starts
33IP 20H 7BB 1.64 era 0.82 whip

O.city 09-15-2014 07:50 PM

Would be nice to get HFA for my own selfish reasons (so I can go to a weekend game and not have to drive home in the wee hours of the night).

O.city 09-15-2014 08:08 PM

So, was reading some stuff on ESPN about scouts not being high on Piscotty now, that he won't be much more than a platoon player at the next level.

That being the case, I wouldn't mind trying to package him and go get a legit SS prospect.

George Liquor 09-16-2014 06:10 PM

This Dallas Braden guy is a giant weirdo.

'Hamas' Jenkins 09-16-2014 08:50 PM

Matheny is walking the bases loaded with a guy who has awful command.

Jewish Rabbi 09-16-2014 08:50 PM

Can we stop using this worthless **** to close games?

'Hamas' Jenkins 09-16-2014 08:51 PM

I don't know who I hate more Mike Matheny or Trevor Rosenthal.

O.city 09-16-2014 08:58 PM

Atleast lucroy and Ramirez are out. Yeah, I got nothing

O.city 09-16-2014 09:00 PM

Adams got a fat middle in fastball on 2-0 and popped out to the catcher.

This offense sucks

BigRedChief 09-16-2014 09:25 PM

If this game is lost, it wa slost in the 1st inning. Peralta swinging at the first pitch way inside was so stupid. He's not a rookie. We had them on the ropes. Bases loaded no outs 1 run already in. You just can't make mistakes like that in a playoff type game.

Tie ballgame in the 10th and you let Delcasco hit instead of OT for a possible home run. He is hitting .500 as a pinch hitter.

'Hamas' Jenkins 09-16-2014 09:28 PM

The offense deserves an albatross around its neck for its incompetence , but Trevor Rosenthal is just a flat out ****ing choke artist who should be nowhere near a high leverage situation.

They didn't seem to realize the division title is still up for grabs. Matheny did the club no favors.

kcpasco 09-16-2014 10:17 PM

Gotta love baseball sometimes. Some scrub hits an accidental bloop single to win the game while Peralta hits the ball hard to the fence for an out.

BigRedChief 09-17-2014 02:38 PM

I knew that Adams was in a slump. But didn't realize it was this bad. WTF is he still batting 4th?

Batting .219 with 4 home runs and 24 RBIs since the All-star break.

For the year he is hitting .211 with RISP and .167 with RISP with 2 outs.

Yeah they have put good wood on the ball. Law of averages will catch up with batted ball luck.

BigRedChief 09-17-2014 07:42 PM

Pennant race against a division rival and we go 16 innings without a run scored. And our pitchers have only gave up one earned run during that time.

It's the lineup too.

Batting a guy who is in a 2-20 slump second. A guy who is hitting .220 in the clean up spot. Delcasco gets a hit and starts 3 straight games. It's a bible bussy based lineup.

When I was growing up learning to play SS, when a guy comes into second with his hands up like that to break up a DP, I was taught to throw it right thru his body.

I get why he's not playing him (defense), but IMO, when you are going to play Bourjos in CF, Tavares needs to play right.

So what do we need to happen in that Pitt Milwaukee series? I'd think the Brew Crew sweeping would be good, no?

BigRedChief 09-17-2014 09:24 PM

I'm so happy to see Waino being bueno again. Just in time for the playoffs. Now if we can get 5 shutout innings out of Wacha in a playoff game. Improved Lynn and Miller. Lackey with his playoff experience. This may be the best pitching staff we have ever had in the playoffs.

I'd rather them make the playoffs, beat SF in the play in game and then beat the Nationals. Assuming we get past LA, we then get HFA.

The Pirates scare us because they're Michael ****ing Myers. You just can't kill the mother****ers.

Everyone should be scared of us anyway. Look at our track record over the last 10 years.

You do not bunt with two strikes in that position. Ever. It does nothing but eviscerate your win expectancy.

On top of that, Bourjos is a terrible bunter. If he wanted to send someone up to bunt, it should have been Kozma. He can at least drop down a decent bunt.

That decision could end up costing this team the division.

kcpasco 09-18-2014 09:10 PM
