I caught Hansel and Gretel last night.

I had totally forgotten that it was rated R. Needless to say I was surprised when they started dropping F bombs and even showed a little titty.

It was decent enough. Fairly predictable, but shit, it's hansel and Gretel. Definitely some hotties roaming around in it.

I'd say it's worth a watch.

Has anybody watched Runner Runner with Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck? Looks decent enough, just haven't been inspired enough to rent it yet.

It's like 13 percent on Rotten Tomatoes... I'd pass.

Has anyone happened to see A Field in England, 89% on rottentomatoes, and the director says he was influenced by Primer to make a film free of exposition and explanation, leaving the viewer to figure out the world as the film goes along.

Also compared in spirit to Valhalla Rising. And the director is current director of Dr. Who.

Basically, in a time of limited scientific knowledge, in the course of an English civil war, a group searches for an unspecified treasure. Only they get nourishment from what appears to be [from our perspective] magic mushrooms and the lines of inspiration, superstition, hallucination, intoxication and magic intersect.

Took the wife to see Monuments Men last night. Enjoyed it a lot. Not your typical war flick by any means but it really is not meant to be. Interesting look at a piece of history, based on a true story.

Yes. It was stupid. The obvious liberal message was annoying.

OTOH, I sat through the entirety of The Fighter, and didn't so much as think of Bruce Wayne, let alone Christian Bale.

Bale is pretty amazing at transforming himself. My wife is always the one saying "hey, isn't that so and so from XXXXX" and it took her about 10 minutes in American Hustle to recognize Bale.

I mean christ, she recognized Jerod Leto in Dallas Buyers Club, and I totally forgot he even existed.

Just watched Reasonable Doubt. I give it a C-.

Excellent, but even then... completely overrated... Bale, DDL, Joaquin Phoenix, I'd cast any of those three before Leo... and not necessarily in that order.

Leo gets more attention than he deserves due to his sex appeal with women and Scorseses undying devotion.

He's better than the overrated Depp, but not better than the mentioned three.

Matthew MccConaughey's a guy who's been knocking it out of the park recently. He's gone from some kinda beefcake rom-com guy to an actor that should be mentioned among the best. "Mud", "Dallas Buyers Club" "True Detective", etc.

I wouldn't say run circles, just watched Wolf of Wall Street last night. I would say McConaughey had a better performance in Dallas Buyers Club. Of course Wolf of Wall Street was better movie though.

I sure wish Ed Norton Jr. would star in another movie soon.

I think every star has a set period of time where they are "on top" or " hot".

That time for these two has probably passed, but they are both solid actors and will be around for a long time. Will Smith especially, still holds alot of name value.

It's amazing that Tom Cruise has been a marquee star for 30 years. That just doesn't happen very often, even in the old days.

I saw Pompeii with my girl last night. Pretty much what I thought- bad acting but great special effects. Keiffer Sutherland was laughable. He plays a Roman General with a ghey British cockney accent-lol Probably the worst script and acting since Attack of the Killer tomatoes-lol

But in 3d when the volcano finally blows-it was a fun ride.

Will had a minor role in anchorman 3 and in Winters Tale. I think he is laying low after his latest big box office bomb After Earth. :doh!:

You're probably right, but these two didn't even seem to taper off or have a stretch of putting out shit quality before disappearing. They literally just fell off.

I understand Will is focusing more on putting his son in Hollywood but I'm not sure what's up with Norton.

I've not seen any of those movies listed above, nor do they appeal to me.

Rushmore and Moonrise Kingdom are standouts, but it you truly hated TRTs, then Wes might be a lost cause for you.

It's understandable, he's one of the more divisive directors, kind of what Lena Dunham gets nowadays.

Out of those listed, Life Aquatic was my favorite. Didn't care for Moonrise Kingdom at all.

Finally got to watch Prisoners. Good movie but it a little long at 2.5 hours. They could have cut out some of the parts that dragged.

FMF is probably my favorite. I really likeD Moonrise. Rushmore and Bottle Rocket are absolute classics that put WA's stamp on cinema.

I should revisit BR sometime, I saw it when it FIRST came out, can't recall if The Tivoli had it, or if I rented it first run. Liked it at the time, but haven't seen it since.

Full confession: I was a Boy Scout whose life centered around scouting for some of my formative years. While it's a totally silly WA take on scouting and summer camp, it still struck some pretty deep chords with me. YMMV.
