What if we put together a package for Dexter Fowler?

Bob Nightengale @BNightengale
The #Cubs, who thought they had a deal with Sanchez, are still waiting. The #Tigers are indeed being given last chance to match. Look's like Bob jumped the gun. |

I wouldn't hesitate to move a bullpen arm to shore up RF (or even 2B). Deal from strength to address a weakness. We have a deep pen, and at least theoretically, we now have a starting staff that can get to the 7th (sted of being yanked by the 6th). Plus, if there's one thing Moore has demonstrated at the ML level, it's that he can build bullpens. He traded Ramirez and Nunez and was able to replace them. To that end, Juan Gutierrez is having a very good winter season in Venezuela. |
Need to be careful with Herrera given his arm history. If we lost him, our pen looks thin. We don't have Broxton for four months this year either. Crow, Holland, Coleman, Collins - might not be all that solid. Hard to predict pens from one year to the next. Without Crow in there it's even weaker.
|
Hopefully we won't need the pen as much this year. The bullpen boys did well last year, inspite of being out there for too many innings

Ordering up some Royals shirts for my parents and girlfriend for the spring training games. Baseball can't get here soon enough!

Shields/Sanchez/Santana/Guthrie/Davis(Mendoza)(Smith)(Chen)(Duffy)(Paulino)
Is a legit rotation. |
Wish Paulino and Duffy were healthy for the start of the season...

How about Hoch and a prospect to the Halos for Peter Bourjos? I love that guy.

You liked it when he was slobbering all over signing Carl Crawford? That contract would've hamstrung us for years. |

I just realized Duncan started the Missouri football thread. Hopefully you do better with this one!
|
Haven't checked this thread since the day after the Shields trade. I feel a little better about it, and am at least willing to give it a chance to work out.
Has the idea of a trade for Dickey gone by the wayside? I feel like that puts us firmly in the contender talk but haven't heard much since Myers for Shields went down. |
I guess myers hit 4 home runs in an intersquad game all off of David Price.

I wasn't on board with the Myers trade. But I'm still excited as hell for the season, We got Big game ****ing james. Why not be optimistic?

Knowing the Royal's luck:
1) Myers will move up this year and immediately start raking 2) The Rays know exactly what is wrong with Monty and he becomes an ace overnight. 3) Odorizzi actually turns into a valid major league pitcher. 4) Patrick Leonard will be the next coming of Pujols. 5) Shields will come completely off the rails and become below replacement level. 6) Davis will fizzle in the rotation, get moved back to reliever then traded for Mike Jacobs. |

I will say this. Like most of you, I think Hoch is garbage. But there's enough there for another GM to say that if it was virtually a no-risk deal (cash considerations from us), that a change of scenery could bring something out in him. The whole #1 pick thing.
That said, I would be willing to part with one of our prospects to go get Bourjos. That guy is a baller. As Deez said, he plays great defense. Also, a great baserunner. Of course we already have Francouer, so DM isn't thinking about that. |
Quote:
Seriously, though, I'm assuming Bourn is out of our price range to upgrade the OF. Or does Dayton just trot Frenchy out there again & pray to the baseball gods that he's not a worthless piece of shit in 2013? |
An outfield with Cain in RF and Dyson in CF with Gordon, would be insanely good defensively. And might make up for our defensive shortcomings vis a vis Tampa. Hell, our IF would be good with the exception of Hosmer. We could really chase down everything, altho our offense wouldn't be the best.
Frenchy wasn't getting to any balls last year, it showed up in his range factor and you could see it on TV. I don't know if he was lollygagging it or if he was a bit hurt but plenty of soft drives landed in front of him. Now in the past, he'd make up for his range by gunning runners out with his arm but last year he didn't. He's the wild card here this year because if he sucks again at the plate, he's a big problem. If he plays like 2011 then we're ok. |
What the hell is Bryan Lahair up to? Heard his name a lot last year. He could come cheap

Hochevar has the worst ERA in baseball since 2007 with a min. of 600 innings pitched (saw it on mlbtr).
Where is the value in that? |

Would love Delmon. But, I've seen him drop way too many pop ups
|
Looking at mlbtr and their outfield FA tracker, there's not much else outside of Swisher and Bourn. Abreu, Damon, etc. All old and washed up or guys looking for minor league deals. Looks like we're stuck with frenchy!!
:banghead::banghead: |
Could take a flyer on Grady Sizemore. He hasn't been healthy though but he could be a cheap option that could be a stud if he is healthy.

Alfonso Soriano @ 2 yrs 10 mill?
Cubs are willing to eat 26 or the remaining 36 million on his contract if they get an okay return, and he had a pretty salty line last year. Terrible defensively though. I'm just throwing ideas out there. i have a huge exam tomorrow morning so my brain is fried, but I don't want to go back to studying. |
DAMON COULD TAKE US TO THE PLAYOFFS!

wait nvm this isnt 2004

Royals signed Xavier Nady to a minor league deal.

I keep hoping that we might make a move for some of the available talent in RF, but it's obvious that DM is madly in love with Frenchy and nothing's changing.

I don't think Young or Soriano are very good options (or realistic).
Young IS Jeff Francoeur. Terrible plate discipline, swings at everything, sometimes gets red-hot and rakes. He also is atrocious defensively. He was too bad defensively to play the OF for the Tigers. A team that is fine with committing long-term to Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder at the corners, with the RANGY Jhonny Peralta at shortstop. That says a lot about Young's defense (or lack thereof). I don't think he'd be an upgrade over Francoeur in any way but salary. Soriano is intriguing at $5 million/per, but he's old and isn't good defensively in LF. Hard to imagine him being studly in RF (though I think his arm is good enough for it). Signing a guy or two like Nady as depth is probably the best bet at this point. |

Games played by Cain, career, by year: 2005: 56 (rookie ball - short season) 2006: 132 2007: 126 2008: 126 2009: 60 (Hamstring injury) 2010: 127 2011: 134 2012: 75 (hip flexor injury) He's been a pro for 8 seasons. He has had serious injury time missed in just two of them. Not a crazy ratio at all for someone who plays CF. |
