AT BEST, assistant coaches are somewhat involved in actual wins and losses. Mostly, they're just there to do detail work that the HC doesn't have time to do. It's delegation.

At the end of the day, you're going to win or lose with the talent on the field whenever the league allows you to. Coaching is icing on the cake.
