EDIT: This was my 25,000th post, a smart-assed comment. How appropriate.

Another nice play by Houston.

Palko was throwing to Steve Breaston, who's route was taking him about 30 yards down the field.

He put enough on the ball to get it to a guy standing 15 yards down the field. :doh!:

It's one thing to make a mental mistake, but he just flat out lacks the arm to make a 30-yard throw on the run. And he's not even aware of it. He's like one of us trying to play NFL football.

I can't EVER recall seeing an NFL QB underthrow a 30-yard pass by 15 yards. That might be the worst pass in Chiefs history.

And Jim Zorn was like, WTF IS GOING ON?

at this point zorn has more sense than haley

Last gif. Should Palko have thrown it to Baldwin? Seems like he has more room to drop the ball into/fewer defenders.

Man look at McCluster's block on that play. Pure awesome.

Nightfyre 11-30-2011 04:58 PM

He should have recognized the defense unfolding, pumped to breaston underneath and gone to baldwin over the top. ideally. Or just hit breaston underneath and called a timeout. Everyone saw where he was going with that ball as he was throwing it and that doesn't help...

Couple of things about that last gif.

Count to yourself one-thousand, two-thousand and look at Baldwin. Palko may have seen him double if not triple covered, and immediately transitioned to Bowe.

As an aside- McCluster does a good job of picking up Worilds (#93) after he breezes by BR.

Well, Baldwin was double covered initially, but once Baldwin left the zone he was singled. Palko looked to Breaston initially, then after noticing the minimal gain, went for Bowe. Unfortunately, the defenders read his eyes and his long windup gave them plenty of time to go over to Bowe's side of the field.

This is why going through ALL progressions is a must. If he just LOOKED at Baldwin, they don't fly over so quick.

I remember seeing this play live. Thought it was going to break but Houston shed the block nicely. With Stude, I'm afraid he busts that one to the outside..

Hell yeah he should have. The way it looks there he was locked in on Bowe the entire play. Once Baldwin makes that cut in field he's pretty much open by NFL standards. Look off the safety in the middle of the field and put it up high and away across the middle, that's a great play... Hindsight, ehhhh...

And to the gif in the OP: I hate Palko as much as anyone, but that ball looks like it slipped out of his hand. On that kind of stage it shouldn't have happened but even the great ones have the ball slip out from time to time.

Surprised no one has noticed that the Steelers dropped 8 guys and we had a 3 man route going. Probably throw that ball away and move on to the next play.

If you are going to make that throw, with the coverage the Steelers are in you have to make the safety wrong and throw the route Bowe ran or throw the post behind the safety. I would have rather him put one up and let Baldwin or Bowe try and outjump or out muscle the safety.

Dwayne Bowe was not only wide open, but also closer. Rule of thumb as a QB: If you can't throw the ball any further down the field than 15 yards per pass, then quit attempting to do so.

'Hamas' Jenkins 11-30-2011 10:38 PM

If he releases the ball when he should have, when Bowe is just past the 30, and makes a good throw, basically a straight line between he and the outside edge of the "S" in CHIEFS, that's a touchdown.

After seeing his performance last Sunday, he's officially on my list of "dumbass QB's who think they'll be great in 2-3 years."

There is no way Palko can throw the ball 50 yards.

JCharles1981 11-30-2011 10:48 PM

^Heck, he can't even throw the ball 30 yards, which he proved last Sunday.
