KC_Connection 03-01-2025 03:05 PM

Was extra funny that he made the one after the buzzer.

Zeke has gotten somewhat of a pass for being a gutless choker this year

He blew the Houston game singlehandedly and I think they win this one too without him on the floor (he plays no defense, can’t dribble/pass and loses confidence in his shot if he misses one or two)

A shame because that might have been KJ’s best game in his entire career

And how many unforced turnovers?

He's such a sloppy ball handler.

He should just catch the ball and shoot it from wherever he is.

His stats vs top tier teams are similarly awful to his road stats, 84.6 ORtg vs “Tier A” teams on KenPom this year

Just shrivels up against any real adversity

I mean we beat a fringe tournament UNC team at home by 2, Michigan State who has a laughable big 10 to play in, and Duke in their first big game ever for their best players. Not exactly amazing.

At the end of the day, this game says what we are. You can't blame this on effort or being lazy. Yes Mayo didn't play well but Hunter Griffen KJ did. We dominated the boards and points in the paint. We didn't really have foul trouble impact us, while it hurt them fairly significantly. We even got a rare second chance at a blown call at the end. And yet we lost. They just made more plays and beat us.

Can we beat anyone? Sure. But so can any NCAA tournament team. You can't judge our season on 1-2 wins and say that's who we are. We have far more of these losses than big wins. It is what it is at this point. We are a 6-10 seed and who knows what will happen in the tournament, but there isn't anything to suggest we can go on a deep run.

That's an understatement. If Diggy Coit takes all of his minutes (in which Zeke went 1 for 7 with 5 turnovers with horrific defense), they probably win that game with how good KJ/HD were.

They've showed as a team when they play well that their ceiling is quite a bit higher than what they'll be seeded (I don't see them dropping below a 6 btw, losses to Tech/Houston/Zona won't hurt their overall resume at all) but with their execution in late and close situations it is hard to imagine anything better than a 2nd round exit. They'll lose to the first team they play that's on their level or better.

Yeah, despite the atrocious offensive possessions at the end (which like you said, it's just who they are), this loss is easy to shrug off in the grand scheme of things... I fully expected it to get out of hand in the 2nd half and to their credit, they got back into it and had chances to tie it at the end.

They could be ranked in the top 10 right now and a loss like that wouldn't have raised major red flags or sounded alarms.

I’ll give them credit today, they were trying like hell, but tech just had more talent than we did. I don’t think there is a single nba player on this team. We’re in the position “now” that Iowa st, Texas, Oklahoma, okie st were in trying to beat us in the 20-teens when we could win without trying because we had overwhelming talent. The transfer portal combined with NIL dollars has leveled the playing field to a point that is detrimental to KU.

You’re right. I meant as of today. He should be ready for the nba next year, but I suppose some agents will get in his ear and give him terrible advice to leave early.

Be that as it may. I will cherish a Lawrence kid playing for the Jayhawks. Sometimes it is more than about winning, especially this year with a weak team. If there is anyone I'm rooting for it's Zeke Mayo.

The lack of effort from this team has been shocking to me. At least Self coached teams played hard in the past. Either he has lost his touch on how to coach the players these days or he recruited the wrong players. Either way, this is on Self.

Normally I'd say no way, b/c UH is too good, especially at home. BUT, since I will be there, there's always the chance for the upset..

UH is like 108-7 at home since they started playing in the Fertitta Center, and I've been there for 5 of those 7 losses. LMAO

He has a vague shot at the guys only being here a year.

Okay fine. What’s with your senior leaders in KJ and Dajuan who have been here for 4 and 5 years?

Has he not had short term guys in the past? Arthur, Xavier, McLemore, Wiggins, Embiid, Oubre, Josh Jackson, Devon Dotson, Gradey Dick…they were all two years or less in the program. They figured it out?

Transfers. We’ve had plenty that came around to be good players. Withey, Malik Newman, Remy, McCullar (until the end), etc. They figured it out?

I’m not getting his point here.

Imo it's an excuse he's using for being unable to motivate these players to play hard regularly and/or being unable to recruit the kind of player this year who can be motivated to play hard regularly. As you cite, he's done it before.

Is there any chance they don't get absolutely blasted tonight? I should have laid at -8.5 last night.

They'll either fall down big early and just give up completely or keep it close the entire time and lose at the end. Both of those have happened this year regularly.

Hard to know which one until we see the first five minutes.

You shouldn't have stuck up for your player who is from Lawrence KS and received racial slurs on social media? Really Bill?

UH doesnt usualy blow people out. They just win, usually comfortably. Kansas could present problems if they play inside out. Gonna be a good game. UH respects KU and knows they'll have to play well to win.

(I just got to the game. The atmosphere is fantastic!)

How about Ben McCollum for our next hire after HCBS? I'm sure he'll get one more stop after his success at NWMSU and now Drake.

This version of KU gets blown out in half of their road games against far worse teams than Houston.

Every stat there is suggests Dickinson is having one of the best individual KU seasons we've seen in the Self era.
