Currently about halfway through the NFLs 40 minute mic’d up highlight reel, and WOW being able to hear what they’re all saying adds SO much drama and intrigue... highly recommended 5/5

WilliamTheIrish 02-10-2020 07:58 PM

That “Frank The Clark Shark” from Mitch on the 4th down stop was just hilarious.

Scrolling through the early pages of this thread, I'm thinking "Look at all these dedicated/crazy/can't sleep mf'rs posting at 2, damn 3 in the morning...aw shit...there's me posting at 3:41AM" haha, guess I couldn't sleep.

THEN IT HAPPENED

jjchieffan 02-10-2020 09:42 PM

I just rewatched the game. I noticed someone on the Chiefs sideline wearing a blue blazer with the old Chiefs Arrowhead on front just like the blue blazer that Hank Stream wore. I assume that was to honor Steam. Did anyone else see that?

Black blazer.

All the Chiefs brass had them on.

I want one of them jackets.

RunKC 02-10-2020 10:17 PM

Underrated part of the game: Butker was fantastic on kickoffs. Hangtime and accuracy made a huge difference

We haven't had to worry about Butker once in a postseason game.

He's the Mahomes of kicking.

I guess that it was black. I saw Clark wearing his at the presentation of the Lombardi and got a better look at it. Yeah. That would be an awesome blazer to have.

My favorite moment might’ve been when things were looking their worst, Mathieu jumps off the bench, grabs his helmet and starts pacing the sideline saying I LIKE IT LIKE THIS to himself over and over and over

The man was tuned UP

PurpleRiders51 02-13-2020 07:07 PM

I'm not sure what this narrative is that the 49er's were the better team and choked. I'm watching the game now and we played a damn good first half. It was even but we had the better of the play for a good part of it. Yes the Chiefs sucked in the 3rd and for the first 8 minutes of the 4th, but we won the 1st, tied the 2nd, lost the 3rd & went on to dominate the 4th after a shaky 8 minutes. Stupid narrative is stupid.

Leaders.

I don't regret EB. It makes me unhappy that he had such a struggle the last two years as a Chief. But I don't think he was ever capable of being what HB is now.

He's the Mahomes of kicking.

We are extremely spoiled when it comes to kickers. People want to say Colquitt should retire because his leg is weak, but he hasn't hurt this team with a bad punt in a bad situation in years.

We have one of the best punters and place kickers, and those are positions we take for granted.

I wonder how happy Chicago would have been last year with Butler instead of the double doink guy.

Yeah. Clark and Veach and other people had them.

I thought it was first class.

I really think the year he played on the Franchise Tag he legitimately led a good defense.

Outside of that....Nope.

Ummmmmm.....

We literally have a game that is colloquially called "The Kicker that shall go unnamed".

Sure, Santos and Buttkicker.com have been good. But outside of those 2 dudes, our entire history post Jan Stenerud has been pure mother****ing ass.

I wouldn't say that. In fact, only Elliot was really ass. Nick Lowery was one of the best kickers in the league when he was here. Succop wasn't great, but was hardly ass. Morten Anderson was at the end of his career, but was still dependable. Lawrence Tynes was probably the worst we've had since Elliot. But, other than that, and Elliot's bad season, I can't remember ever having a season where we felt screwed at the position.

Lowery remains an epic tragedy.
Just about the lone spike of competence for years in the desert.
Growing up, you could instantly identify the Chiefs by describing 'the shitty team with a great kicker.'
Then Schottenheimer comes and restores competitiveness, and a hold pushes his last minute potential game winning FG in the playoffs out of his aging range.
Then he decides it's time to make some $$, and the Chiefs let him go.
And then the Chiefs endure the next playoffs with the kicker who shall not be named.

He was HoF level great, until we actually needed him, and we replaced him with a disaster, extending our misery for decades.

suzzer99 02-14-2020 01:47 AM

Our secondary was pretty damn good in the 80s too - first Barbaro and Green and then Cherry/Lewis/Ross/Burrus - still my favorite foursome.

Other than that no strengths - just a few decent sporadic players like Spani, Art Still, Mike Bell, John Alt,

Nick Lowery was pretty good. At one time he was the most accurate kicker in NFL history.

But, I was really referring to Colquitt and Butker.

There were several teams this year who went through 2, 3, 4, and even 5 place kickers. There were teams that kept one kicker, but that kicker missed quite a few kicks that cost the team games.

And there are teams that have a new punter every couple of years because they can't find one that can put the ball inside the 20, or because they can't punt directionally, and keep kicking to dangerous return men, or the punters are just wildly inconsistent.

Not only is Colquitt one of the best in history at putting the ball inside the 20, he is actually one of the leaders on the team. Most punters are the odd man out in a locker room. And Butker was once again the NFL's leading scorer, and was one of the most accurate kickers in the league.

As fans we never feel like we are about to give the game away when one of our kickers is coming onto the field. But many fan bases don't have that. So, we are spoiled when it comes to punters and place kickers because ours are rock solid.

Agreed. If you look at the kicker situations in New England, Indianapolis, and Nashville this year(as well as Chicago last year), you see how good we have it. We were especially fortunate when Santos got hurt and we were able to snag Butker off of someone's practice squad. But, Colquitt has to be about done. He was drafte by Carl Peterson for crying out loud. LOL.

Did you really block out the Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards years?

Medlock? The highest % kicker in the NCAA to that point? God ****ing Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards ****ing ****ed his brain clear the ****ing **** out of his ****ing skull. Then he went to Canada and was nails for his whole career.

Conner Barth? Dude came in here and couldn't hit the ocean from a boat. Then stuck around the league for ****ing ever, just kicking field goals for everybody.

Nick Novak? Couldn't hit a ****ing thing here and then hung around the league until like last ****ing year IIRC.

I had to look the rest up because I had effectively blocked them from my memory, but here's the rest of Squrimin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards' kickers.

Dave Raynor (2007)
John Carney (2007)

GOD **** Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards. He never fielded a kicker we could trust.

Beyond that remember 900 Year old Morten Anderson not being able to kick over 30 yards and having to burn a roster spot for a kick off guy? All the while the Cheating ****ing Donko Bitch****s had Elam that would never ****ing miss.

Punters haven't been horrible but Succup was bad here under pressure and Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards couldn't field a kicker to save his ass.

Partially because the stadium capacity was reduced by almost 11,000 seats in 2015 renovation. 2010 was the most recent Miami Super Bowl before this year. In 2010, the stadium capacity was over 75,000. It’s now below 65,000.

they couldn't sell all the seats because of Kittle's huge ego

Dayze 02-19-2020 08:06 AM

5,000 were there, not for the game, but tend to Jo Lo's narcissism and green room demands.

So I discussed with my better half. Will the Chiefs win another Super Bowl in the next few years? Yes. Will it be as awesome as THIS one? No. This is something we have all waited for so long that any other victory will be icing on the cake! This ONE means the MOST!

Small stadium.

Danguardace 02-21-2020 01:01 PM

Not sure if this has been brought up before.

People say Mahomes played badly but basically 4 drives in the first half 1 was a 3 and out, 2 were scoring drives and 1 stalled at midfield.

Mahomes then (due to the half time show and 49ERS drives) went roughly 57 minutes before he touched the ball again. Not making excuses but could explain why he was a little off after half time.

I wonder how many similar situations have happened in previous superbowls.

He played 'badly' for himself. Against his career, short as it's been. If anyone else not named Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson had been the QB, the pundits would've said he was playing fine or good.

The two INTs weren't good, and that's what most people think of right off the bat, but outside of that, Mahomes played just fine.

And the first INT he admitted he tried to move the LB by drifting to his right, but the pass rush forced him to stop moving to his right, and he had to get rid of the ball earlier than he wanted. The 2nd INT was really his worst pass. He just threw it behind Tyreek, period.

Bottom line, for Mahomes stratospheric average level of play, he didn't have a good game. For just about anyone else, he was better than average.

Hammock Parties 02-21-2020 02:15 PM

Doesn't even matter.

Joe Montana had four turnovers in his legendary NFC Championship win over Dallas.

The Athletic was teasing an article yesterday that basically said that Mahomes bad game wasn't really a bad game at all. I was tempted to subscribe just to read that article

^this^

It was sold out and was one of the reason tix were so high. Limited capacity.

I might do that as well.

It's funny that people want to jump on the "Pat had a bad game" thing. As if he wasn't playing in the SB against the 1st or 2nd best defense in the league. A defense that had very few flaws. It would've been more shocking to me if he didn't struggle a little. When the best offense runs into the best defense it's supposed to be tough sledding. Pat wasn't playing against Ball State after all.

But Joe Montana has 16 TDs and ZERO interceptions in the Super Bowl.

I don't think Mahomes played poorly compared to other QBs against that defense, but he did throw the single worst pass in his NFL career, which was the INT he threw to Warner.
