You are way wrong on that. He was Elpresidente/CEO/GM of the Chiefs. He was raking it in.

I heard Petro mention last week that he was in the 1.5 million range for salary, and that's one of the main reasons for his long tenure, all as part of a discussion about how Pioli is reportedly looking for 5.

But hey, believe what you want. It might not be true. I certainly don't see the guy's tax papers.

Maybe for GM but how much for CEO? Elpresidente? But I've heard rumors of million $ yearly bonus's.

The impression I got was that was the total package. And I'd imagine incentive bonuses are probably a league-wide thing.

We won't figure out how much CP made... I think you have to pay Pioli to get him... we can't be the Cheaps.

Who knows for sure? Like Brock said only a few people know for sure and none of them are on this board. :)

Think about it. As penurious as Lamar Hunt was reported to be, do you really think Carl would have been on the upper echelon of pay? Seriously?

Gravedigger 01-05-2009 12:29 PM

Yeah I think it was a combination of a 5 million dollar a year salary, when Carl was only getting paid 2.5 a year, total control, his own call on the new head coach in Kirk Ferentz etc etc.

FringeNC 01-05-2009 12:40 PM

If Herm is making 3-4 million, I just can't believe Carl was making less than that, let alone half that.

Ferentz is not leaving Iowa.I simply won't permit it.

Agreed. Vermeil was making $5 million PER YEAR and the Hunt's didn't blink an eye. I'm certain Carl made $ 5 mil plus PER YEAR. His ego wouldn't allow somebody else, other than ownership to make more than him.

Pro football opportunities

Many major college and NFL teams have considered Ferentz as a candidate for their head coaching jobs. However, Ferentz has publicly declined any interest in other coaching positions, opting to stay at Iowa. On November 23, 2004, Ferentz and Iowa athletics director Bob Bowlsby agreed to a new contract extension that keeps Ferentz at Iowa until 2012.[1]
On January 2, 2006 the head coaches of five NFL teams, Green Bay, St. Louis, Houston, New Orleans, and Minnesota, were fired. There was renewed speculation that Ferentz would be offered a head coaching job with one of those professional franchises. But such speculation was soon put to rest when Ferentz stated that he was still happy with his job at Iowa, and that he had no plans to leave.[2]
On June 2, 2006, Ferentz became the highest paid coach in the Big Ten and third highest in college football when he was given a restructured contract that boosted his annual salary to $2.7 million.[3]
Following the 2006 NFL season, rumors circulated that Ferentz may have been in consideration for the Pittsburgh Steelers' head coaching job after Bill Cowher stepped down. However, before Cowher's departure, Ferentz was asked about his possible interest in the position, and stated: “I know that staff pretty well and they’ve got some good guys in that building. My guess is that's where they would go. But I’m not interested, and I doubt they are, either. I’ve got a great job right here.”[citation needed] The Steelers job eventually went to Mike Tomlin.
In 2008, Ferentz was again rumored to be a candidate for an NFL head coaching job, particularly as successor to Romeo Crennel for the Cleveland Browns.[4]

That would seem rather odd.
