Best argument for acquiring Jonny Gomes is that the Royals would then never have to face Jonny Gomes, who always seems to destroy the Royals.

For his career, he hits a HR about once every 20 ABs (20.4). That's pretty legit (Considering that if he could do that over a full season, he'd be a 30 HR guy). Career .279/.379/.496 hitter against southpaws. .222/.307/.416 against RHP. Only issue I really see is that he's a LF/DH guy. Playing him in RF would be an extreme stretch, maybe even worse than playing Ibanez out there at this point. |
They really should pursue Byrd and Dunn...need 2 power/driving hitters in this lineup to have a decent chance.
This lineup as constructed isn't getting in the playoffs |
We need an everyday RF'r so we can punt Aoki's ass off our roster. He's been a forgetful addition. Gomes is NOT that answer
|
Let me also say, that Raul Ibanez has to go. Great guy, but watching him play LF makes my stomach turn worse than watching him at the plate.

Can we say now that what happened four weeks ago with the 10 game streak was just the planets aligning and the sun shining on a dogs ass? Did we just catch a string of slumping hurlers?

I'd prefer an everyday guy, too, but Gomes would be better than doing nothing. If Aoki continues to be ineffective, Dyson and Gomes would be a pretty nice pairing. Quote:
This board has always been higher on Dunn than I think he warrants, though. The HR numbers are sexy... the rest of the package, not so much. I think there's a good reason he's never played on a team that wins consistently. He'd be fine as a complementary piece if you're asking him to hit 6th or 7th and be a three outcome guy from that spot in the lineup, but if you're asking him to hit in the middle, I think you're going to be disappointed. |

It wasn't just the 10-game streak... it was nearly a whole month of pretty good offensive success. They're going to need to finish 15 games over .500 in the second half to be in position to make the playoffs (that would put them at 89 wins, which should be about the right mark). For them to do that, it's hard to imagine it happening without another winning streak of some significance. If they can manage another 7-8 game streak and finish 7-8 games over .500 in the rest of the games, I think they're in. It's hard to imagine that happening without significant improvement from the offense, though. |
You guys are all worrying over nothing. Ned pointed out that we've been a 2nd half team the last two seasons, so he's certain we will be again in 2014. Nothing needs to be added. Ned knows baseball and it's been guaranteed by a higher power that we'll tear MLB up the next few months.

Salvador Perez has been announced as the starting catcher for tomorrow's all-star game (replacing the injured Wieters). Salvy will bat 9th.
