Damn dude that should be great.
|
I'm pretty stoked.
Also announced is that the Goose Island Brewpub here, which was the last of Goose's production sites to go over to Anheuser (just last year), has been under renovation for the last half year and upon reopening will have Bourbon County Stout on tap year round. Unfortunately, they stripped down the old English pub vibe for more of a Chipotle look, but that's pretty exciting news. |

FINALLY WON SOMETHING?!?!?! WHO WON THAT ****ING BIRTHDAY BOURBON I'M MAD JELLY ABOUT??!?!?! HUH?!?!? Congrats on this. Looks great. Bourbon Country Reserve with Knob Creek.....winner right there. Nice avatar. ROFL |

Had a buddy who went last year, said it was a good time, though the line was around the block to even get in. |

Anyway, support your local liquor stores if you find a good one, folks. |

As you know, I love Bourbon. I drink most of the good stuff neat. The bourbon barrel aged stouts I've tasted don't do much for me and actually have a very funky (not pleasant) taste to me. Not something I enjoy. Go figure. |

Damn, congrats.
Still have about half a case of last year's BCS, will probably make it until the new stuff comes out. |

- BCS - Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, released on Black Friday ( :# ).. it used to border on too boozy to drink right away (compared to how much better it was 6-8 months later), but in the past couple years it seems like they've been aging it longer before release. Either way, buy two... drink one soon, forget about the other for 8+ months. - ODell Jolly Russian.... rum barrels, actually, but is right up there with BCS, and I've found it in Phoenix on multiple occasions. - Any bourbon barrel aged stout from Ballast Point - Modern Times Monsters' Park Aged In Bourbon Barrels... I haven't had the bourbon variety, but Monster's Park is amazing (and $33) - KBS - Founders Kentucky Bourbon Stout.... I don't go out of my way to buy it, but it's really popular and I found it in Phoenix several months ago. - New Holland Dragon’s Milk.... not sure if they distribute in AZ... some years are significantly better than others, but when it's good, it's really ****ing good. And their reserve stuff is expensive, but even better. - Epic Big Bad Baptist.... I've only had it once in LA and haven't seen it in Phoenix, but it was pretty great. Apparently a place called Magnum's Speakeasy in Phoenix has it, but a name like that scares me a little. - Evil Twin Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Biscotti Break... another rarity, saw it once in KC. Think I've seen Evil Twin around here, but not that one. Damn, I was thinking so hard about bourbon stouts, I completely forgot about dinner... my carne asada is now closer to beef jerky...... enjoy, asshole! |
Quote:
I was supposed to try BCS on a meetup date with a CP member but he never showed. This also seems hard to find here in AZ? Lewdog is the master of burnt Carne Asada. Just ask KCUnited. |
Quote:
There was so much BCS up here, I didn't bother looking for it in Phoenix... it probably does go quickly down there, you might have to look for it Thanksgiving weekend or just get it here. It was a pain in the ass in KC... liquor stores would limit people to one 12oz bottle, and going out on Black Friday made it worse. |
Quote:
And you try drinking a heavy beer poolside when it's 110+ degrees out you ****ing Nancy Kansas boy! |

Drinking stouts when it's hot out doesn't bother me like it does a lot of people.... might be time for an IPA at 110 though. |

Some of my favorites, not mentioned above (non-stouts noted): Firestone Walker Parabola Firestone Walker Sucaba (BA Barleywine) Firestone Walker Helldorado (BA Blonde Barleywine) Liftbridge BA Silhouette Epic Big Bad Baptista Founders Backwoods Bastard (BA Scotch Ale) Oskar Blues BA Ten Fidy Prairie Artisan Ales BA Bomb! Lagunitas High West-ified Dark Horse BBA Plead the 5th Freemont Dark Star Freemont Abominable Hoppin Frog BA BORIS/DORIS Perennial BA Sump There are a bunch I'm forgetting, but there's a start. |

I like Hefs, porters, stouts, red/brown ales, sours. Have you had Blueberry Spaceship Box from Superstition Meadery up there yet? Local place is finally carrying it consistently down the street from the house. $10 for a 10oz pour and worth every penny. |
Quote:
Parabola is excellent, haven't seen it in probably 5 years though. The regular Bomb! is pretty good, haven't seen the bourbon one. BCS Coffee is amazing as well, but I haven't seen that one in ~5 years either. I'll probably brew some sort of coffee stout soon.... easy to make, hard to screw up, and quite delicious. |
I had Big Bad Baptist in PHX for the first time last March, but it was on tap. Epic just started distro here last month so it's fairly easily to find at a decent price. I honestly think it's one of the most enjoyable BA stouts that's ready to drink right off the shelf. I've also spotted BA Ten Fidy around PHX at the same time, which was odd thinking about drinking a BA stout when it's 90+ outside. That one is more elusive to find here.
I love getting Dragoon IPA (Tucson) when in PHX. It's a top West Coast IPA for me. |

LOVE this stuff! Had it many times in the 6-7 months just before I left northern Virginia |
Well damn, Goose announced today that they will not be releasing the Bourbon County Reserve Brand Barleywine on Black Friday. It was the 2 year aged barleywine. The announcement said it didn't taste to their standards. That's kind of a bummer. The regular Bourbon County Brand Barleywine is still on the BF release schedule though.
Looks like they also applied for a keg label for a double barrel, 17% abv version of BCBS. Yikes, bring a fork. Looks like its draft only at this point though. |

As far as Phoenix availability (lewdog), Total Wine was selling singles and 4 packs last time I was there. |
Not at the level of the beers you guys enjoy, but I just tried Bell's Best Brown for the first time...damn good.
Especially out of a 1-liter German Stein. |

Just saw this posted on Boulevard's FB page... sadly, it's rare that I get excited about one of their beers these days, and then when they come out with something like this, it's a very limited release. Assholes.

I took some inspiration from this thread yesterday but pretty much by mistake.
Decided I wanted a "nicer" 6 pack of some beer for a 2 year old's B-Day party yesterday (FML). I saw a beer called "Sucks" from Lagunitas. Said something about being a Brown Sugar Ale. I completely missed the IBU of 63 on the pack and had no idea I just purchased a ****ing IPA! Discovered this on my way to the party and my mood was dashed. However, maybe it really isn't an IPA? I guess I'm not sure. I thought I found something that called in an American Double IPA. I actually did enjoy it though! https://www.monkeysfightingrobots.co...88-696x464.jpg 99 rating on ratebeer? Anyone else had this? https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/lagunitas-sucks/158433/ |
Quote:
The first year it came out, I was at a bar in Chicago, and when the waitress asked me what I wanted, I said "Lagunitas Sucks". She looked confused, and said that they have lots of non-Lagunitas beers, and she was sure I could find something I liked. Was pretty amusing. |
Quote:
Anyway its a pretty solid beer. If you get a chance pick some actual Brown Shugga. You will probably like it with your delicate palet. :D |
Sucks, when fresh, is a very good IPA for a national distribution offering. Brown Shugga is a very good strong ale, which would probably fit your taste preference better if you don’t like IPAs. If I remember right, for whatever reason Lagunitas failed to release Brown Shugga one year and released Sucks in its place, hence the Brown Shugga substitute on the packaging.

Maybe I'm growing up? I'll look for the Brown Shugga though. Quote:

Speaking of Lagunitas IPAs, Born Yesterday is out. This year is Equinox, Mosaic, and Simcoe hopped. I had a few for the Chiefs Thursday Night game. It's tasting great and obviously super fresh. One of the better nationally distributed wet hopped IPAs, imo.

Suck is great when it's super fresh. Most of the time it's old as shit when I see it in our stores here, though, so I've given up on it.

Have you guys tried any of that Keystone Light yet?
I have an inside track on a couple of cases soon, let me know if you'd like to trade anything for one of them |

What makes IPA's so goddamn sticky? Is it the hops?
I had a few Lagunitas IPA's yesterday and they were served in mason jars with handles and everyone had overpour that ran all over the glass and handle. Whenever I drink one the overflow on the outside of the glass makes my hands like Fred Biletnikoff |
Quote:
What beer did you have? They make a Maximus IPA which may get sticky. |

**** YOU!!!!
Just when I thought I had the money to spare to buy myself a nice case of Bourbon...you have to post this! I have been drinking this stuff since the 1st year of mass production (2005). It has been brewed since early 1995 and was introduced at GABF later that year. My old acquaintance (Booker Noe) furnished the original bourbon barrels. I bumped into it at a restaurant in S. StL. called The Iron Barley, a ( ****ing great) hole in the wall joint that had 10 tables and bar that sat 7 people. There was a speakeasy and a small music venue 6 feet under it (called Fred's Six Feet Under). https://eatmeinstl.files.wordpress.c...1/p1040575.jpg I liked the WC stout so much even at, as I recall, $15 a 12oz bottle at the bar. (in 2005 dollars) a few days later, I went searching for it. I couldn't find it anywhere in STL at the end of Nov. (it had not been out but a short time) but it was sold out. I went back to the the "Barley" on my way home on Thanksgiving eve and the owner's wife, who was busy delivery smoked turkeys , hams and rib roasts, reluctantly sold me 4 four six packs for dirt cheap. for $25 each. $100 was a lot back then for 16 beers! I was going to deliver 2-4pks to friends for Christmas but they never got there. I have been ordering it ever since. I had almost forgotten about it this year and so now, thanks to you, I have a budget issue. You ****ing prick.. Just kidding :D:D:D:D You know I just ordered 6 four packs and yes the total was $151.24:eek: but I do get first option on the variant selections if I can afford them. The 2016 rare was $65, and the rye and proprietor's is $24 per 17oz bottle. (stuff is ****ing stupid priced) My guess is that my mixed care of top shelf bourbons will have to wait til Thanksgiving. Thanks for reminding me as i doubt I would buy any at retail pricing had I put it off. Quote:

The lineup for the week:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/7Y...=w1688-h949-no From left to right: Founders Backwoods Bastard Yeungling Black & Tan Buffalo Bayou Smoke on the Bayou 2017 Clown Shoes Pecan Pie Porter 2017 Devils Backbone Vienna Lager Buffalo Bayou Summer's Wit (top) 8th Wonder Weisstheimer (Bottom) Spoetzl Shiner Holiday Cheer (Top) Oskar Blues Death By Coconut (Bottom) |
I’m not a huge scotch ale drinker but I’m definitely good for a 4pk of Backwoods Bastard a year.

Ruby Mountain Brewing Co. Angle Creek Amber Ale. I'm in a little town in Nevada called Lamoille. I thought I'd try the locally brewed beer and it's pretty good. Cheers!

Lewdog sent me a good one from Kettlehouse Brewing in Montana called Cold Smoke. I should probably try a few more in that style myself. |

New to me, but probably not anyone else...really enjoying Black Butte Porter from Deschutes.
Didn't expect to like it, but also really enjoyed Carobock from Dogfish Head. Tastes like a boozy chocolate covered banana. |
I don't purchase many seasonal packs, but you kind of take what the wife brings home when you have a broken neck and can't get out much. That said, Sierra Nevada's Snow Pack is really nice. It's got SNPA, which is always legit, a Winter Ale which isn't overloaded with spice, a really solid coffee stout, and their take on a hazy IPA which, imo, is a bit of a hybrid west meets east coast IPA with a drier, somewhat bitter finish. Nothing wow worthy, but a nice assortment of beers for $13.
|
Enjoying my first ever Founder's Breakfast Stout. Cant believe I finally found some here. I'm a huuuuuuuge stout guy and this is probably the best beer Ive ever had.
