I just love the booking of the Cody/Allin match. I normally don't like draws but this one worked. Darby would have gotten destroyed but for hurting Cody's hand, which bought him valuable time. Also, he got over by absorbing a huge amount of punishment. So he ends up looking great and Cody does not come off looking weak.

Mecca 07-01-2019 01:16 PM

People are weird now by the way.....use to a huge bump would get people over...Allin took that ridiculous one in the corner to the floor and all I see is everyone bitching at what an unsafe **** he is.

I haven't seen many people bitching about the coffin drop onto the apron. Maybe I just tune it out. He took the bump as well as he possibly could have given how bad it was. It was a far cry to what someone like Kota Ibushi does every single match with the 5 billion neckbumps he takes.

I just don't understand what happened, everyone use to get pumped for chair shots and big bumps and crazy spots.

Now any of that stuff happens and everyone involved is immediately a ****ing idiot.

Benoit happened and a steady stream of deaths and destroyed bodies followed.

You really need to branch out from WWE. There aren't really chairshots anymore but plenty of big bumps and crazy spots to be had.

I've watched plenty of other products over the years to be honest with you.

Also something going on that is really weird right now...I think if you read stuff from AEW wrestlers and the fans this company has an extremely certain demo they are going for to the point that I think it could turn some people off. I've already had a friend of mine tell me they don't feel welcome.

I'll be honest, I thought the street fighter shit was stupid as all hell and made Omega come off like a ****ing rube to me. But I understand they seem to be shooting for this mix of "people who hate WWE" "gaming and anime nerds" type of audience, which yea I don't exactly jive with to be honest.

Jerm 07-01-2019 03:44 PM

Unprotected chairshots are stupid. I am glad we moved past that and wrestlers are now taking them on the back or getting their arms up.

So raw got good all of the sudden.

Swanman 07-08-2019 12:29 PM

Fight for the Fallen for AEW is already almost upon us. Another free B/R Live PPV and I believe the last show before All Out.

Brandi Rhodes vs. Allie
Havoc/Allin/Janela vs MJF/Spears/Guevara
SCU vs Lucha Bros
Cima vs Kenny Omega
Cody/Dustin vs Young Bucks

I am sure there will be more announced but that's a solid lineup for a free show. The 6-man could be very fun. I am glad the deathmatch guys are already teaming together.

big nasty kcnut 07-08-2019 12:37 PM

Well scu vs lucha bros going to be tight.

Mecca 07-08-2019 12:41 PM

So how much will their watch be hurt by the WWE running an opposing show?

big nasty kcnut 07-08-2019 09:30 PM

Depending on who watches evolve plus aew has name recognition wrestling that night while wwe has guys who are well known by a few.

Jerm 07-14-2019 02:54 PM

Both the EVOLVE and AEW shows were good (EVOLVE was better) but man the NJPW G1 show blew them both out of the water....

NJ is just so much better than everyone else, the A Block in the G1 is frickin ridiculous.

Oh I thought EVOLVE was clearly the better show...CIMA/Kenny was awesome though.

Jerm 07-14-2019 03:36 PM

BTW I'm at a point where I'm comfortable calling Okada the GOAT....guy puts on a great match almost every time he steps in the ring and can work with anyone.

Still think he has a lot of time to add to his resume to and cement it.

BryanBusby 07-14-2019 03:39 PM

They need a fulltime person that handles gorilla from start to end. Having to quit a promo mid-promo was super bad.

JR is also a major detractor from the presentation.

Alright I'll bite. Someone explain to me this Luchasaurus hype. Is it because the rest of AEW looks like shit/lolTNA and hes the best of the bunch their mark fans need to hold onto or what?

Theres a lot of online hype for him and I want to like him, cool look but I have a hard time suspending disbelief for:

A) a 6 foot 5 guy thats "indy big" working like Taker/Kane. Is it because everyone else in AEW is basically 5 foot 6 in the ring with him? Years I spent watching giants in WCW and WWE and my eyes are just conditioned to a big man being an actual big man. Its hard for me to look past him tryin to work like 7 foot.

B) I cant get over the slow, and I mean slowwwwww execution of his moves. Is that part of the gimmick or is he actually that terrible? It looks like hes moving in molasses or carrying 100 lb restraints on his limbs. Its hard for me to buy into guys taking moves that slow in a landscape where everyone is fast, fast, fast or workrate. Guys moving 100 mph around him have to all of a sudden stop to take the slowest moving kicks ever. Like Orange Cassidy's gimmick could dodge them.

His moves likely looked slow because he was working with a bunch of guys that go a billion miles an hour. The kicks did look a bit rough but that standing moonsault was amazing.

I will have to check out the Evolve show. AEW put on a bit of a stinker overall but it was a free show and could have been looked at as R&D for the big shows and tv show coming up. It was an awful idea to have an outdoor show in the middle of summer in Florida. Besides Excalibur, the announcing was awful. I was excited about JR initially but at that show he sounded angry and was big-timing Marvez every time he opened his mouth (Marvez is awful). This probably wouldn't be possible, but I would somehow nab Kevin Kelly from NJPW and do a 2 man booth with him and Excalibur.

I am almost caught up on the G1 so far and it is amazing. I just love that you can't take any match for granted. Ibushi lost his first two and Yano beat Naito in very Yano style. I am still pissed that Suzuki isn't in the G1 but it seems like a building storyline because the announce team always brings it up.

I could see things going pretty chalk in the second half of group matches because I don't see any way that Ibushi doesn't win his block. In the other block you would have to say Naito is the favorite but they could also go with Jay White.

Also, Lance Archer has looked amazing thus far. That's a big man that can work and his mullethawk is incredible.

They haven't had the champ win in a very long time so I could see that happening too. I also don't want a G1 final of Ibushi vs Naito because they might legit kill each other based on what they did at Dominion.

I'm pretty certain the WWE is full of people who are well from this generation, and those people are soft.

These people would wilt in front of attitude era crowds.

There is one thing a wrestler should care about getting and that is a reaction. Negative reactions are just fine, unless its go-away heat. Honestly there just aren't enough wrestlers that want pure heel heat. Everyone wants to be a tweener. I think that's why MJF stands out in AEW. He is just a complete dick all the time and he gets nuclear heat.

It's one of the reasons NJ works so well, everyone is versatile enough to flip flop and play the role necessary and get the reaction needed for that particular match.

Hell I remember a couple of years ago in the G1 Okada playing a straight dick heel against Kojima and it worked completely, was awesome.

The WWE nor their roster can manipulate a crowd like that, it's just so straight forward and damnit you should cheer everything...we're all so good. No versatility.

And the WWE announces that NXT will now be a 2 hour show that is going to air Wednesdays on USA in direct competition with the AEW show.

Apparently Fox thought they were getting NXT for FS1 but the WWE went with USA because it's a better network and gives them a better shot to bury AEW.

The were the Midnight Rockers (Martey Jannety & Shawn Michaels--aka The Heartbreak Kid) when they started out as a tag team in 1985 in Kansas City (I remember watching them on All Star Wrestling on Sunday morning on ch. 41). When then went to the WWF(now WWE), Vince had them change their name to The Rockers.

My favorite brothers tag team was Harlem Heat. I also like the Steiner Brothers (pre Big Poppa Pump) and von Erich's.

Yep, Booker T and Stevie Ray, what happened to Ray?

As you know the Steiners legit wrestlers at Michigan.

The Von Erich story a sad one, but Kerry and Kevin a great team.

A few other legit brother teams....

The Torres Brothers...Ramon/Alberto...and...Enrique who soloed it.
Paul and Joe LeDuc
I'm pretty sure Mad Dog and Butcher Vachon were legit brothers, maybe not
Randy Savage and "Leaping" Lanny Poffo....rassler Angelo Poffo the dad.
A whole slew of Guerreros
Mike and Ben Sharpe

There were. They formed in 1985 in Kansas City, and then moved to the AWA in 1986-1987. The went to the WWF in 1988. The Midnight Rockers briefly held the NWA Central States tag titles in 1985.

I used Wikipedia to verify dates, but I remember watching both Jannety and Shawn Michaels as singles, and as the Midnight Rockers on ch. 41 when I was around 15 (I've been watching wrestling since at least 1982).

I miss the Macho Man!

I haven't really watched wrestling in probably 20 years, but I doubt they'll ever have characters like they did with Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, Ric Flair, Rick Rude etc...

NORCAL
SOCAL
World Class in Texas
Central States
AWA
Memphis/CWA
Florida
WWF
World Championship
UWF

and a bunch I'm forgetting.

You nailed it~

Savage was an original and an amazing performer, he is missed.

Ric Flair was a "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers clone but, was better at it, ha~~~

Hogan the best terrible rassler ever, but his impact on the biz was huge.

Rude a legit bad man, an arm wrestling champion and a bouncer.

You're breaking my heart.

Yep, the best of times.

So Vince bought them all out I'm guessing?

He stold all the talent, because he could pay more.

Would love to read a book on this, do have one about the origins of the NWA, very interesting.

Territories were going to die regardless of Vince.

They were a relic of an era when cable TV wasn't big. If it wasn't Vince, it would have been Ted Turner.
