I just don’t see 3 to 4 spots for free agents when they’re likely going to draft 2.

They’ll sign 2, but not 3-4.

The Franchise 03-21-2022 12:32 PM

I would sign Dunlap and then go to the draft for DEs. Depending on what we come out with, I’d look to bring Ingram in if they couldn’t come out with one that they liked in the first couple of rounds.

I think they'll add a TOTAL of 3-4, between the draft and free agency.

I was surprised when I looked... Wentz completed nearly 63% of his passes for 3,500 yards, 27 TDs and only 7 INTs last season.

I don't know that 36 year old Ryan can best that production by much really. They will continue to run the offense through Taylor, so moving Wentz to get to Ryan is weird.

Although, they got a 2 and a 3 this year and a 3 next year... moved him and replaced with Ryan for a 3 with this cap. So, they netted a 2 and a 3 as well as all that cap.

Yeah, it just became cool to shit on Wentz by the end of the season.

He was...fine.

He stumbled down the stretch, for sure. He really had some poor games when Indy could've put themselves in the playoffs. But on balance I think he re-established that he's a starting caliber NFL quarterback.

That's better than 1/3 of the league will likely get this year.

The thing about Smith is that he’s already come back and played a great game in the playoffs.

I don't think he's worth it - he's a backup caliber QB who's fallen uphill because of where he started and a strong jawline.

But I wouldn't be shocked at all if some idiot organization gave up that much for him.

If there are teams in this league that think they can win a Super Bowl with David Carr or Tua, then there are teams thing Grapes is worth a couple 2s.

I could see it someone giving up a 2nd rounder, I don't know about two of them. You just need a GM who is trying to save his job who thinks if they just put a running game or defense around Jimmy G he can at least get you to the playoffs, which he can. Buy you a few years while you try to draft your QB for the future.

I think if you're the Panthers giving up a 2 is a no-brainer.

A 2nd 2? Eh - gimme some conditions on that one and I'll consider it.

But you can't waste another season with Darnold. He's just not that guy.

Hell if you're the Texans, why not? I don't think the Giants gain much there.
Pittsburgh is probably the other decent option and they don't have an incredible 2nd round pick. Moreover, I just don't know if they're going to get the guy they want at 21 anyway. So if you can use the 2nd you'd have to trade up to get to your QB, use it instead to get Grapes and then use that 1st on a different target (in a draft deep elsewhere) then keep your powder dry until next year, there are worse ways to go.

And with the Steelers aversion to ever truly bottoming out, that's probably their last shot at avoiding it.

staylor26 03-21-2022 01:53 PM

I thought the Panthers too, but they don’t even have a 2nd this year.

That’s why I find it hard to believe.

Only other team I can see is the Seahawks and that would be monumentally stupid of them.

staylor26 03-21-2022 01:54 PM

Mills just has fools gold all over him, IMO. LOTS of garbage time production and 10 picks in limited duty. That's a backup.

I'm not sure why some people seem to think he's the answer there. I just didn't see it.

Especially edge rushers that require bend. I guess I don’t see why we would target him when there are a bunch of other pass rushers available that don’t have broken backs. In that playoff game, SF ran right at him when he was on the field and Smith couldn’t hold up.

Clowney
Campbell
Hicks
Ingram
Carter
Key

Yeah, I think that's the biggest red flag with Smith.

Over the last 2 years teams have just attacked those edges w/ the running game. And neither of the Smith's demonstrated the ability to do much about it.

Za'Darius may just be more of an OLB than a DE4.

He didn’t play anything close to a great game against SF.

He was their third lowest rated player in that game.

If Veach signs this guy to a multi year deal without inquiring about Some other guys first, he’s not doing the team a service.

If I’m calling the shots, give me Clowney and Ingram. Or Calais Campbell and Ingram.

If he signs Smith, he can’t have guarantees after year 1…if he’s ok with that (he won’t) then we should all be excited about the signing but if not, we need to be smart and look elsewhere.

I don't know what Cleveland expects here, tbh

The Franchise 03-21-2022 02:40 PM

Cleveland just needs to trade him and take what they can get. You don’t want him around that locker room at all.

Maybe they should expect to have the most expensive second-string QB ever. Every team in the NFL should refuse to do business with that franchise.

There were some fools around here claiming that Baker would get the Browns a 1st round pick.

ROFL

Oof.

I didn't realize he was hauling that 5th year option salary around. $18.5 million on the cap? No thanks.

That's where they really miscalculated here. The 5th year option is guaranteed for injury only. UNTIL the first day of the new league year.

If they had understood that they won't be able to get anything for him, they could've gotten him cut prior to that 5th year option becoming fully guaranteed.

Yeah, he's gonna get traded WITH a 3rd rounder for a 6th somewhere.

And I still think there are teams that could do worse.

He was their third lowest rated player in that game.

Admittedly, I was going by his stats. IIRC he had a sack and a TFL, which coming back from a serious injury in a playoff game is pretty good.

Great game was probably hyperbolic, but I also don’t trust individual 1 game grades from PFF either.

They’re going to run out of options here fast. Other teams are snatching up QBs and won’t want to take on a malcontent who will want to start. And nobody is paying $18 million for a back up QB.

Many on CP love Baker for some odd reason.

I remember when people were saying that him and Mahomes were going to be like Manning/Brady LMAO

Yeah I would've thought NOLA might have been a possibility but their cap situation is rough and then they brought back Jameis.

Seattle might be their only option and that’s if Carroll wants to deal with Baker.

MahomesMagic 03-21-2022 02:50 PM

Baker is not a top 12 QB but he is better than many are saying, IMO.

I think people are undervaluing (maybe NFL teams too) based on last year when he was hurt.

He's better than Wentz or Jimmy G (not a super high bar).

It’s not just on the field.

When his current team says they want an “adult” at QB, then they trade for Watson, that’s pretty telling.

And it’s not like there’s not a ton of evidence to support that narrative.

And the team that traded away Watson….didn’t want Baker at all.

You don't suppose they want to keep him since it is likely that Watson will miss some time this year if not all year in form of a suspension from the NFL? That is the reason that the Browns only gave him a $1Million salary this year.
Baker can suck it up and prove people wrong and earn his way out of Cleveland.

Highly debatable. And im going to disagree that he's better than those guys.

Not only is he not top 12, he's not even top 20. 25-30 is probably his range.

Why would Baker go out of his way to help the team that didn’t want him? In his mind….the Browns can go **** themselves.

Lol yea Baker is going to swallow his pride AND do the Browns a solid?

LMAO

Well, they DID let him borrow their stadium for his dozens of douche commercials.

I guess he cannot play. NO ONE WANTS HIM.
He has to rebuild his reputation.
