Regarding your spoiler, I never gave it a thought before that movie, but I see your wisdom.

I saw Unhinged in theaters this past weekend (they just opened on Friday for us San Diegans).

Russel Crowe was awesome as expected. A good, fun thriller type movie that's everything you'd expect it to be. The story wasn't amazing, and you won't leave the theater asking more questions or pondering the ending, but you won't leave disappointed either.

It's a good quality movie, just not a GREAT movie. Would recommend for fans of thrillers and Russel Crowe.

Always is a wonderful movie.

Baby Lee 09-16-2020 04:55 PM

This is very exciting, great source material. A little leery of the producers, but looks to be a right romp!!

If it stays true to the book and the visuals in the trailer, imagine splitting the difference between straight historical and Tarantino gleeful revisionism. The author's take on the historical characters colors them a little more madcap than the encyclopedia.

I know this is not a NEW movie but I just watched "Lucky" yesterday starring Harry Dean Stanton about a 90 year old man reflecting on his own mortality. Pretty cool story and a few notable co-stars. Last movie he made before he died.

Some of it shot out here in Cave Creek, AZ and I like the cinematography of the whole movie.

It's not very long so an easy watch.

(Interesting Harry Dean Stanton factoid: he was Jack Nicholson's best man for his first marriage)

I am still picking my jaw up off the ground after watching The Outpost. Pay their military consultants all the money. This was by far the most accurate depiction of modern day warfighters I have ever seen.

Yeah. Just watched the outpost also.

Doesn’t pull punches. Really good.

Wow!! I'm not bagging on you, but are you just now discovering Jami Gertz? Congrats

I'm trying to recall when she was hottest. Probably Less than Zero.

She got her 'start' [at least a big one] playing middle-school BFFs with Sarah-Jessica Parker [which I actually missed myself, until it was streamed on one of the first HDTV channels, HDNET, . . . it was one of the few 80s sitcoms recorded on film.]

Even older, she played 5 years as the hot housewife, in the mold of Leah Remini on King of Queens, married to 'King Robert Baratheon' Mark Addy in the early 00s on 'Still Standing.'

She strikes me as the predessor of Erin Hayes [who ironically had an ill-fated stint as Kevin James' spouse in his attempt to return to KoQ roots.]. Probably influenced by Gertz playing years on ER, and Hayes playing years on Children's Hospital, too.

eDave 10-07-2020 09:43 PM

Oh it's Less Than Zero, Baby Lee.

Baby Lee 10-08-2020 08:04 AM

Just half-curious to see how well they pull it off, the trailer by itself is just a great bit of satire, but I don't know if the entire movie would improve on it.

It's almost like an all-time classic SNL skit, except there's apparently a movie to follow. . . .

Yeah, man. Looking at her Wiki, it appears she was just before my time. Prior to Lost Boys I had only seen one movie on her filmography and that was Twister! She was attractive in that one but a bit past her prime.

But yeah.. in Lost Boys- mega hot.

Agreed

She has a resting b***h face and always seemed whiny.

Both traits the casting director knew would serve her well in her Seinfeld appearance

She was hot as hell. Shit, she still looks great now and she's my age. And what's wrong with her voice? She was annoying in Twister, but that's not how she sounds normally. It's not like she's Fran Dresher or anything.

I'll admit, I always thought Fran Drescher was sexy in that show she was in.. can't remember the name..

I watched Terminator: Dark Fate last night.

It was entertaining but I think that was more due to the fact that I love the Terminator lore. It's not nearly as good as T1 and T2 despite heavily using themes from both.

I will say their depiction of the flashback from the future (weird) was ****ing terrifying. Those Rev-9s with the shabby tentacles are nightmare fuel.

Rocketman just took me through a roller coaster ride of Elton John's life up to a specific point in time. And it was great. Sad, happy, hopeful, exhilarated, depressed, suicidal, infuriated, exhilarated, happy, content, and then all over again but in a completely different order. Big fan of these types of movies and this is one of the best. I highly recommend you watch Rocketman with the disclaimer that you don't do it with children present and engaged. This son of a bitch grabbed me and pulled me right in from the mother****ing start, man, and I enjoyed the ride a great deal. If you like biscuits and gravy or chimichanga's, you will enjoy Rocketman.

The Dark and the Wicked is a very well executed new horror flick. Evil presence, farmhouse, etc.

Its well acted, with enough scare moments, a classic score, and overall uncomfortable vibe. Nothing new per se but some of the classic tricks executed superbly. Recommended.

Watched Bushwick on Netflix. I’m always down for Dave Bautista. But this one was a rough hang. Fairly poignant given the current political climate, but a tough hang. Probably worth your time, but it isn’t cheery. There is a moment where it tries to be. Then it isn’t anymore.

Spoiler!

Fatman - awesome

Buehler445 11-28-2020 08:21 PM

I watched Hard Kill on Netflix. Don't bother.

Looked good. Bruce Willis, mercenaries, shoot em up. **** yeah.

Pure unadulterated garbage. Bad dialogue, worse dialogue, worse yet plot. Action was meh, but it was absolutely chalk full of nonsensical tactical errors and dumbass decisions. And I'm far from the pinnacle of weapons and tactics knowledge. I have a couple guns and can fairly efficiently dust prairie dogs, badgers and coyotes, but I have precisely 0 training, and both sides of the conflict made inconcievable, indefensible tactical errors. And that's not to get into improperly using the weapons systems.

And that's beside the point that they were fighting over this AI platform that they tried like 3 times to explain, and literally as deep as they got was it was AI and ... I guess... is bad.

I can normally suspend disbelief for that kind of stuff, but wow this was bad.

Pure shit. Keep scrolling.

Hillbilly Elegy was pretty good. Alot better than the trailers made it look.

It’s definitely Oscar bait, but it’s well made and earnest more than anything.

So I watched Uncle Frank. I didn’t know shit about it. Betany is typically a good watch. I was in the office. **** it. I put it on.

Spoiler!

Then the uncles dad (girls grandpa) dies and it shifts to the uncle. And dealing with the whole thing.

It was really good. Betany killed it like I thought he would, the girl and the partner (especially the partner) ****ing destroyed it. I mean really good. This is normally a movie I’d shut off 20 minutes in. I was hooked when shit got real. When

Mosul on Netflix— highly recommend this movie. Gritty, realistic, and un-varnished view of the war against ISIS/Daesh. I spent three years in Iraq, and they did a better job than any bullshit movie made in Hollywood. Yes, it’s subtitled but it only makes it more realistic as opposed to Iraqis running around speaking English.

Its a beloved classic for good reason, you owe it to yourself to see it... one hilarious scene after another

Hammock Parties 12-22-2020 03:50 PM

Take it from a person who wouldn't watch a Tyler Perry movie if you paid him.

Coming to America transcends color. It's that ****ing funny.

Buehler445 12-22-2020 04:25 PM

I watched Ava recently. I expected it to suck, so that may skew my perception a bit.

I really enjoyed it. A lot. You know how it goes with women going hand to hand with dudes. They block punches and do the same moves as the dudes and well, its stupid. The action was good. You could tell they were cognizant of her size and how it would actually go.

I'm a bit of a sucker for Jessica Chastain, and she was good it. Most notably, how she handled her mental trauma, how she dealt with her ex, her family dynamic, all of it was actually pretty compelling. And like I said, the action is good.

John Malkovich was awesome as John Malkovich typically is.

Colin Ferrell was a little bit over the top, but that's probably the writing.

Seeing Geena Davis be old, made me feel old. ****. She really killed it. Especially when she flipped the switch.

Overall, I'd recommend it. Good watch, IMO.

Someone should [heck someone probably has], in today's woke tokenistic entertainment landscape, write an article on how much more effective Eddie's take on the matter was. There for a good while until he started making kid-friendly movies, he was just point of fact making movies with black characters that lived in American culture without being bound by stigmas associated with black culture. Coming to America, Boomerang, Harlem Nights. They were black and they were American, but they weren't held back by anything. They were smart and wealthy and successful and they were protagonists. And they even poke fun at foibles and PC subjects without being mean or hurtful.

I don't know when the change came, but at some point black people in entertainment started trying to be as IN YOUR FACE with their blackness as they possible could, for god knows what reason.

I grew up with Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Avery Brooks, Billy Dee Williams, Levar Burton and Carl Weathers in leading or high-profile supporting roles and nothing seemed off.

At some point there was a shift and black people started using their platforms to beat white people over the head with bludgeons of shame.

And I actually liked GET OUT, but enough is enough.

I'm looking forward to the pundits declaring C2A something that has "set back black culture in America by 50 years."

It's not just black entertainment, there seems to be a rejection of nuance.

Nothing can just exist and let you figure the 'lesson' out.

You can't have a gay character who just exists in the narrative. You have to have a GAY CHARACTER whose gay angst is central to the narrative.

You can't have a female action star [cough, Beatrix Kiddo], you have to have 'GIRLS GET IT DONE!!' montage in your Avengers.

Everything has to check a box, then tell the audience they checked the box, then celebrate the checking of the box.

I blame Bennetton.

Great movie, saw that in theaters actually.

Host (Shudder original movie)

Pretty fun Covid concept movie. Group of friends get together for a seance on a Zoom call and conjure a spirit. So you get to seem them all get killed like you're on the call with them. Blair Witch-y in how its filmed which could annoy some but I found it enjoyable all things considered.

VFW is a pretty fun low budget action/horror flick. Group of vets hanging out tussle with a violent drug gang. Kind of reminded me of Planet Terror in the way its filmed; dark, intentionally grainy, etc. Thought the vet cast killed it.

Perfect mindless, ultra violent flick on a NYE.

EDIT: If you're a horror synth junky like me, VFW delivers on that alone

Can't believe I've never seen Train to Busan (2016) until last night. Superb in every aspect.

Going to try and catch Peninsula (#2 in the series) tonight.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a pale imitation.

I've never hated something I respected so much in my life outside maybe Elway.

It was committed and well executed, but it was . . . too, . . . too dark, too unrelenting, too unflinching.

People left that theatre hating humanity in general for a little while, it truly was analogous to slogging out of Arrowhead after a playoff loss.

My God, when he pissed on her Viking Stove. . .

Actually a pretty apt movie for our current times. Certainly have similar notions about my relationship to some citizens.

Sure is. Danny Devito directed a couple good movies back then. Throw Momma from the train was another good one he directed himself.

That was one of the worst theater experiences I've ever had.

I knew nothing about it going in - saw the cast and thought it was a Romancing the Stone sequel. Apparently I didn't examine the poster very closely. Anyway, I took a date - my brand new live in girlfriend. I should also mention that I had only recently split from my first wife. Can't think of a worse date movie in the history of date movies. The guys in the theater were cheering for the husband, the women were cheering for the wife. I could hear couples start to argue while the goddamn thing was still running. The tension and negative energy were palpable. At least the GF and I waited until the car ride home to get into it. She ended up being nearly as much of a **** as Kathleen Turner's character was, and did a wonderful job wrecking what was left of my existence at the time. Ugh.

It wasn't a bad movie; it was well made and well acted. But it sure as **** should have come with a warning label, and IMO should never have been made in the first place. I don't know who wrote it, but they must have been in a very dark place, and wanted company. Jesus. :shake:

If we’re going to talk about some older movies how about Moving 1988 with Richard Pryor, holy shit what a great film.

LMAO.
yep. Movies like this and "the Money Pit"...are prefect representations of what it's like to move, and own your first home.

some great lines in Moving:
"How's it hanging"?

"...how's, what hanging"?

"......your dick"

"Oh... to the left a little bit"

For those of you with kids, Wolfwalkers was a pretty great film. I enjoyed the art style, and it's nice not having a kids movie chock full of juvenile tropes. The movie strikes a fairly somber tone of Ireland's repressed population under England rule against the fantastical people who shift into wolves when they sleep. Enjoyed it much more than the crap put on Netflix. Worth the 6 bucks to sub for Apple TV even for one month.
