COLUMBIA - The first 500 MU students at Tuesday's NIT basketball game can get in free with an ID.

The Tigers take on Davidson in the first game of the 2014 National Invitation Tournament. This is the first time since 2008 that Mizzou hasn't played in the NCAA tournament.

"It's disappointing for sure, I'd say," said MU Student Matt Hamilton, "It's still exciting that we get some kind of tournament or game but you know, obviously we'd like to see us in the national tournament, the big dance."

Dave Reiter, Associate AD with the MU Athletic Department, said if students have already bought their tickets, they will be refunded on their student accounts. He also encourages students to be at Mizzou Arena at 6 pm for the 8 pm start time, for a better chance of receiving a free ticket.ROFL

5$ wasn't a good enough deal?

wow, how embarrassing

Prison Bitch 03-18-2014 03:35 PM

Why don't they just replay the 2012 win over KU on the big screen while the game is going on? I'm just thinking outloud ways they could get butts in the seats tonight.

Every team from the Big8 made the tournament this year... Besides Mizzou.

Congratulations. We're in that 3 week period of the year where the nation as a whole cares about college basketball (until their bracket in the work pool gets busted), so by all means live it up. PBJ

That was easy to find. I was curious about the press conference he called to explain why he picked kU to the sweet sixteen.

Prison Bitch 03-20-2014 11:05 AM

Oh I didn't say it was the only part of the presser. He explained why he picked SLU to lose early too. It was on Action 41 Newscast last night. About KU: "Now I do have them losing somewhat early this year before half their team goes pro"

IN. HIS. NOGGIN.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you said he called a press conference to explain why he picked kU to the sweet sixteen. I think that's astonishing. I'd like to know about this press conference, unless...

You weren't flat out lying were you?

Oh, you got me again, you prison bitch. You got me again...

Prison Bitch 03-20-2014 11:10 AM

I never said he called a presser just to discuss KU. But there he was, explaining to cameras, why he picked KU to win a couple games. It's embarrassing to watch a State leader reduced to babbling about KU. It's unimaginable Gov Brownback would ever discuss Mizzou in a press conference. But hey, I didn't vote for Nixon.

That was a reason he held the press conference or it was a question at his press conference? Or did he volunteer that information on his own?

Not sure, it was on the newscast and they didn't explain why he was talking about KU basketball. But he did mention that people were angry he had them winning a couple games so he wanted to explain. Just pathetic.

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Governor Jay Nixon doesn't have Saint Louis University Billikens going far in the NCAA tournament.

During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Nixon said that he had SLU losing to Louisville in the third round on his bracket. He was in town to sign legislation that would limit the amount of money cancer patients could be charged for oral chemotherapy medicine.

Gov. Nixon apologized to Billiken fans for the bracket pick and said that they are great fans. As a sign of further condolence, he said that he did pick Kansas to lose early, too. According to his bracket, which he tweeted Tuesday, he has Kansas going out in the Sweet 16 to Syracuse.

They're compiled by the top marketing preference company in the world. They don't release their methodology but note it's driven by "likes" on a teams fan page and compiled by county:

Facebook Data Now Give Us The Best Map Of College Football Fandom
Reuben Fischer-Baum
Filed to: COLLEGE FOOTBALL

http://www.slate.com/content/dam/sla...e_Football.jpg

Taking off from its outstanding NFL and college basketball maps, Facebook has compiled county-by-county data on which Top 25 college football teams have the most "likes" across the nation (click here for a larger image). With the usual caveat that many of the counties shown here have very few people, here are some takeaways:

In January, Facebook dipped into its user data and put together the greatest NFL fan map we'd ever seen. Now they've done it again, mapping … Read…
Texas, Florida, Ohio State, and Oregon seem to have established themselves as the "default" teams for places with no obvious rooting interest in the Top 25. Alabama, ranked number one and winner of two of the last three championship games, gets no such love.
  • Florida dominates the Northeast, for some reason.
  • ESPN may give a shit about Louisville football, but Kentucky does not.
  • Eastern Pennsylvania breaks for Notre Dame, even though other states in the largely Catholic Northeast aren't interested.
  • Oregon State, UCLA, and Northwestern cannot be found on the map–zero counties picked them as their favorite team.
  • TCU and Oklahoma State aren't too popular either, each hold only one county.

It appears to me that Kansas is covered by Nebraska and Oklahoma. Not that I think this map and "facebook likes" has any more significance than the shit I just took, but what exactly are you trying to show by repeatedly talking about this poll?

Missouri, Kansas and Kansas State were all ineligible for this survey since it only involved pre-season top 25 teams at the start of last season.

So...by matter of geographical deduction, one would think that a neighboring states team from the midwest, that was also pre-season ranked, would be the most commonly "liked" team, no?

I still fail to see the point or gotcha that you're going for here. Is it because it's Texas and they're in the big 12? What school would you expect it to be? Personally, I don't care for any team outside of Mizzou. And if I did, I still probably wouldn't "like" them on facebook. I'm not a 12 year old girl.

Are you embarrased that over half of Kansas is shaded Nebraska's color?

Prison Bitch 03-21-2014 10:24 AM

It shows that Texas is very popular in the state of MIssouri. Nothing more than that. For Mizzou fans who hate Texas that may not make sense. For Mizzou fans who think "Bevo" controls the Kansas schools, it must shock them to know how popular Texas is in their own state.

As to whether OU and Nebraska's football popularity in Kansas bothers or surprises me? It does neither.

Bevo did control Mizzou. This is obvious based on how many titles the school has brought to Columbia since being granted their freedom.

Nick Saban has ideas for reversing NFL’s underclassmen invasion

Alabama coach Nick Saban has an idea on how the NFL could reduce the record number of college underclassmen declaring for the draft — and it involves big changes for the NFL Combine.

Saban told SiriusXM NFL radio host Phil Savage the NFL should allow underclassmen to perform at its annual predraft scouting combine prior to deciding whether to turn pro early. Saban, whose resume includes stops as an NFL assistant coach and a term as head coach of the Dolphins, said the opportunity would provide a reality check for many underclassmen who give up their college eligibility too soon.
