So.. do we all think that when a team called about Butler, that Dayton Moore asked for way too much in return? Especially for a declining player

Thats not the coldest game I've ever been to, but it was close. Fortunately I came prepared, the only thing I screwed up on is I should have doubled up on my socks.

The vast majority of fans came woefully unprepared and had to surrender to the elements. mid-40's might not seem bad, but when you are sitting still for a few hours, it gets damn cold, especially with wind. You need to dress like its going to be 20 degrees on those kinds of days.

Jeremy Jeffress released by Toronto yesterday, after a few bad outings to begin the year. That closes the book on 1/2 of the Greinke "haul" now.

I'm kind of surprised it is Brooks and not Michael Mariot, who has been working out of the pen and seemed like the next guy up.

Appears the six-man bullpen experiment is over.

We'll see if Ciriaco clears waivers. What will Nedley do without a second pinch runner who can rip off a bag?

Deberg_1990 04-05-2014 10:20 AM

They skipped Ventura in the rotation? wtf Ned?

I get it that he promised this start to Guthrie. The home opener... blah blah.

So instead of completely skipping... just move the kid back to the next game... he should be starting today... but instead... the kid gets completely scratched an entire turn in the rotation....

The only thing that could make sense to me is that he's gonna be the guy pegged in the rotation to get skipped on a regular basis simply to ensure he doesn't tire over the course of the year... if that's the case, then why not just come out and say it? Is this Ned's way of thinking he's smarter than everyone else? It just makes him seem dumb to the observer... hence the reason to explain instead of saying "this is the way i want it" and turning your back.

he had to stretch the end out for the flyover. I'm sure he probably would have preferred to not do that.

duncan_idaho 04-05-2014 10:33 AM

One of two things is happening:

1) The Royals are trying to control Ventura's innings because they want him to be available for September and beyond. Skipping this start allows them to do that.

2) Ned is being an idiot, loyal guy as usual and giving crucial early starts to his "vets" because he knows what they will give him.

I strongly suspect it is item two.

Because, after all, you can't pinch hit for Moustakas in that crucial spot yesterday because you can't "get in his dome" this early.

58kcfan89 04-05-2014 10:54 AM

Or maybe they're just delaying it to build suspense for Ventura's first start!.... Or not...

And WTF is up with Moustakas? I'm expecting the "He sucks" responses, but seriously, how does he have such an amazing spring and can't do crap when the real thing starts? Is it something mechanical (I know they've been messing with his swing), or is it as simple as he's just not a very good player? I'd usually say it's way too early for this kinda thing, but after last year, I don't think it is.

C3HIEF3S 04-05-2014 10:56 AM

It works out actually. Have Chen start today against Danks, then Shields match up with Sale tomorrow.

Who's knows? But I'm sure he knows if he has another year like last year, that's probably his last shot with the Royals. How Long can they afford to wait on this guy?? I'm sure It plays with his head a lot.

I see some mechanical things with a looped swing on some attempts, over swinging but at times he adjusts and shortens it but he still isn't close on the swing. He still can't hit the down and in pitch which should be his wheel house pitch to turn on as a lefty. He either isn't seeing the ball great or he's a mental midget when the season starts.

I'd go with the latter.

Escobar looks absolutely horrendous. Do the Royals even have a backup shortstop at this point?

Prison Bitch 04-05-2014 04:27 PM

I don't know. He is really good with the glove, I suppose you can live with one hole in the AL but not two. Moose must get back to ST level, he is critical. We haven't homered yet. We are like a 1950s baseball team with extreme pitching and defense with zero power.

The Royals are fearful that if they hit a ball out of the park, the replay crew will have to review. So instead of complicating the situation, they're preferring not to try to hit the ball over the wall.

Anyway, lets sweep these guys tomorrow. Going to be a tough test vs Sale, need Big Game James to match him pitch for pitch until we get into their bullpen. Probably not going to be an offensive showing for either club tomorrow.

Oh and Valencia better get the start. Moose sitting the bench will get a lot less "into his dome" than the abuse Sale would give the kid tomorrow.

While you may think that, his defense is poop. And I'm still not sold on his split because although his average against lefties is much higher, his sample size against lefties is also about half as much as the number of at bat he's had against righties.

But really, he's got stone hands out there.

They were solid the one season he pitched out the pen. Numbers were solid, but Coleman last year in 30 innings posted a .61 ERA with 32K's to 6 walks. Those numbers are pretty gnar themselves. Maybe bumping Davis back to the 7th might be a better idea.

Yeah, he may not be willing to admit it and may still think of himself as a starter, but Wade Davis is probably going to have a career as a really good relief pitcher. He could probably close for many teams.
