The idea that Poe's primary position should be in a 3-technique is crazy, crazy, crazy.

His top value is as a 0-technique. His second value is in the 5-technique. And his biggest value is that in a 3-4, he's an unbelievably rare linemen that can one day play all the techniques.

Again, another example of reducing a player to a role that doesn't highlight his strengths.

270 lbs is plenty of weight to play on the end in a 4-3.

Well look i dont know much about this shit Im just spitballing if you will. I just think Poe and Dorsey can play off each other in 43. I gota research and learn about the techniques. Im not gona try and BS like i know everything. Just trying to throw out a dline theory

How many of those guys play opposite someone who also weighs that much? I can answer that for you if you want.

I played at 260 in High school back in the late 70's. I was usually the biggest guy on the field.

Huh? In a 3-4, your OLBs are your traditional 3-4 guys. Your 3-4 DEs tend to be 4-3 DTs, if anything.

The prototypical 4-3 DE is 280+ lbs and has ability to rush the passer and be tough in the trenches against the run. Some have done fine at a lower weight, but not all of them are very good run defenders and many of them get flat-out manhandled by the run. Houston in particular was NOT a good run defender at all in UGA. Hali is NOT very good against the run in a 4-3 and he has physical limitations of short arms.

And again, having 2 of them on the same line is just asking for a bottom third run defense.

We wouldnt be doing the Tampa 2 would we?

Right now, the most smoke is surrounding Monte Kiffin, so yes.

I agree with this.

I think Poe might be able to play anywhere. Dorsey just doesn't get it done for me.

Well he can be brought back as a run defender. He's good at that. I dont want to switch. We got a good nucleus.

RunKC 01-04-2013 08:09 PM

And I still think that Tyson Jackson and Dontari Poe being in the 0 technique firing through the A gap would be awesome.

They are both quick and powerful and have big bodies with long arms to bat passes away in the middle.

Mother****erJones 01-04-2013 08:10 PM

Jackson doesnt do much for me. But he was making some plays unlike Dorsey. Though i like dorsey in the 43

Pasta Little Brioni 01-04-2013 08:11 PM

Anything is better than having the lineman stand at the line and play patty cakes whilst the QB eats a sandwich in the pocket till he spots an open reciever.
