New Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid is expected to be more hands-on running the Chiefs offense, including playcalling, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Reid is mulling his new staff and has considered names like former Browns head coach Pat Shurmur, but, at this point, is leaning toward a younger staff, given his more direct approach with this offense.

Longtime offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg will not be going to Kansas City with Reid and at this point, it's unlikely longtime offensive line coach/defensive coordinator Juan Castillo will, either. Castillo is drawing interest in both of those roles he once served under Reid. Defensively, there have been rumors of Monte Kiffin as Reid's coordinator on that side of the ball, but that is very unlikely sources said (Reid has thought highly of Ed Donatell, now coaching the 49ers defensive backs, in the past, sources said, and Jacksonville's Mel Tucker could be an option as well).

On the personnel side, Green Bay executive John Dorsey is all but certain to serve as general manager under Reid -- Reid will report directly to owner Clark Hunt -- and the team will add other personnel men as well, as the Chiefs franchise is remade following the departure of former general manager Scott Pioli.

That is contrary to pretty much EVERYTHING we have heard so far.

THis is nothing of what TBG has said, and with LaCanfora no longer having a vulture in the Chiefs FO, I'd question how much merit this holds.

Shit. It sure sounds like we're favoring a 4-3. We can only hope that Donatell's experience in SF makes him consider a 3-4 despite his track record. Or that Dorsey's experience in a 3-4 will have him push Reid to consider a new approach.

I haven't been on enough to get the jist of what you guys are thinking recently, but do you think Reid will draft Wilson or Smith number one overall or will it be like McNabb said in your opinions?

Mother****erJones 01-04-2013 07:30 PM

Curious question, did Pioli ever have a picture of him signing his contract?

I'm holding out hope that Horton isn't getting any smoke as a HC and will come in here to be DC.

Yeah, I'm not worried about offense. I trust Reid will make the right choice and he's going to do it after evaluating some really good options.

If we get a QB.

Cannibal 01-04-2013 07:31 PM

I like how we've played the last couple of years with a 3-4. I felt the Chiefs did a really good job against the run last year.

But as a philosophy, I prefer the 4-3.

Mother****erJones 01-04-2013 07:32 PM

I honestly could give a shit about what D we run. This man wins and he has been to a Super Bowl. He's won with the 43. Sign Dorsey and run Tamba, Dorsey, Poe and Houston out there as your dline

Marty Mac Ver 2.0 01-04-2013 07:33 PM

I'm going to start a twitter war with LaCanfora...kidding.

Maybe.

If Clowney was eligible, they'd pick him. I don't know what McNabb said, but they'll HAVE to go QB, IMO.
