I think that's so incredibly underrated.

Even Mahomes and team with Kelce and Tyreek had issues in the early years, being shutout at halftime of the first AFCCG, and then 24-0 the following season. They overcame it because Mahomes is that ****ing special and he had the talent around him, but still.

We've seen this Ravens team before, just a few seasons ago. We all got good and scared of the Jags last year and they really weren't much of a threat... etc, etc. Every year, inexperienced teams getting a taste of real pressure in the real season. Obviously, nothing is 100% or 0%... the Ravens could be that good, and of course the Chiefs' issues could just be too much to overcome.

Completely agree. The Patriots were the team no one liked seeing in the playoffs because how money they were in the playoffs. They didn’t win every year, but they were always a threat to win it all. They weren’t always the best team or most talented, but they had that experience. I feel like that way with KC this year. They are not the most talented team this year, but they are not a team devoid of talent. We will see as you said if KC can overcome their issues or not.

I get the feeling you're expressing as a fan, but from the outside, KC just doesn't have that mistique this year. There's not an ounce of smack in that or this; even with the state the Bengals are in, i thought they had a legitimate chance to win yesterday, going into the game.

Your defense has done the job the last 4 weeks in the 2nd half, so that's something very positive to look at but i'd still be worried about scoring and drops.

Oh KC is not as dominant on offense as they usually are and it is very concerning. But playoff football is a different beast. Give me the most experienced team in the playoffs until they are no longer in. I do think that if KC were to somehow win it all this would be the greatest playoff run in their history as they are very vulnerable.

You only got to see the real Bengals from Arizona to Baltimore at halftime this year. They will be right back up the Chiefs asses next year.

Joey was able to light a few cigars thanks to his defense. Now he doesn’t have one. At least he has….OBJ protecting his blind side?

DrunkBassGuitar 01-01-2024 11:20 PM

Drops are obviously an issue but the chiefs don't have to win shootouts. They shouldn't be the favorites and they're not but I'm fine with rolling into the playoffs with an elite coach QB and defense despite the WRs struggles

The Browns are another team because they have a playoff proven QB with a running game and defense and the Bills are playing well now and just beat you.

This just isn't the same Chiefs teams like the last few years. If the playoffs started today your most likely path would be hosting the Bills, @Miami and @Baltimore. Things could fall your way and you could host the Browns for the AFCCG but that's not an automatic W either. And none of that takes into account if the Steelers D makes it in or Stroud's Texans.

We'll find out in the playoffs, but with Mahomes helming the offense, I'd always take him against the opposition

I feel they need to find that identity, too... I'm sure Reid will have some things up his sleeve, but that should also come with an understanding they don't have the horses they once did and can't just expect to overcome turnovers and wasted possessions.

It's nothing they don't already know, but at the same time I'm sure it's tough to make that mental shift to a bit more fundamental football (not full on Alex game management). They've had to do it more and more the past few years and I do think Mahomes can flip that switch as long as he's not pressing and YOLOing throws.

They didn’t have much of a “mystique” last year either. Didn’t keep them from owning the Bengals with a QB on one leg and practice squad receivers.

Other than Baltimore, KC’s the last team that anyone from the AFC wants to face.

This postseason, i do. You have too many issues to compete for a SB this year. They didn't just get magically fixed because you beat the Bengals at home.

This isn't just taking a shot because my team lost, or taking a shot because i don't like a team but the facts are, if you paid attention to the game, the deep shots you hit were single coverage with the CB playing trail technique only they didn't have decent safety help. That was just plain stupid. The running game was good because the Bengals have been terrible at tackling this year--probably because they have a penchant for stripping the ball--and they didn't get the same results this year that they did the previous 2 and the LB play has been much worse this year. Wilson and Pratt have been out of position way too often this year and were easily wiped out of plays, unable to get off blocks consistently.

On offense, it's starts with the QB and Burrow was once again unable to even practice during TC, no preseason snaps and they decided to run him out there as a statue and let him play to health, which i didn't have a problem with and which he eventually did, but then he ****ed up his wrist by simply bracing himself after a hit. Now the very legitimate question is, is Burrow physically able to play in the NFL, with how many injuries and dings he's accumulate over the first 4 years. Tee injured again and again and Ja'Marr checks out if doesn't get the ball early, especially with Burrow out. I won't even bother going into the running game and how the trench guys seem to be physically weaker than most teams because they get knocked off the LoS so easily and aren't able to sustain or shed blocks for very long/easily.

I know you all think things are going to magically fall into place, but it's not going to happen this year but like you said, you've been able to enjoy the last 5 years, so the end of the line doesn't hurt as much. I get that and i'd rather be there than here.

You're wrong. Most of us here are realistic about the Chiefs chances this year. Still, when your QB is Patrick Mahomes, there is always hope.

The biggest thing this year was bad tackling which lead to a big difference in rYPG. They've always been a bend but don't break team, they just spent too much time on the field this year.

Dax has a full season now and Jordan Battle actually played best @safety this year after he took over for Nick Scott. He's a better Vonn Bell. Their biggest hole to fill will be DJ Reader, if he doesn't come back. All of their problems are fixable and they're in excellent shape with the cap.

Ok, fine. It is $30 mil next year and a $46 mil cap hit in 2025. As if $4 mil is gonna make that much difference between 2025 and 2027. $46 mil is still a huge cap hit. And that WILL have a major effect on your ability to sign or re-sign players. GTFO with that stupid argument.

Projected cap in '25 is about 282M, so it will be higher than that. Burrow's salary will be around 15% of the cap, tops, more than likely less than that. There's no doubt they will have to budget more than before but no more than most teams in their position and a bit less than a lot of them.

O.city 01-02-2024 12:46 PM

The Chiefs have the best QB in the league, MVP, multiple time SB winner, in his prime.

So yeah, the Chiefs will compete for a SB. They're in the playoffs, so they'll have a chance. That's not something Cinci has so I understand the hesitation of understanding.

chiefzilla1501 01-02-2024 12:56 PM

Bengals are better managed than teams like buffalo and the chargers capwise. But man talk about a free meal ticket getting a top 5 player in 2 of the most expensive position groups for free for a few years. Burrows contract is one thing, but jamar and Jefferson are going to shatter the highs for the WR market

We are going to have to go the Brady route this playoff season. Play smart and somewhat conservative on offense. No mistakes, keep game close and lean on the defense. Then take some timely shots downfield when it's later in the game.

We don't have the WRs to stretch the defenses we will be facing so you have to essentially wear them down with some body blows all game them throw the haymakers at the right times.

HAHAHAH Greatness??? OK you'all cant win without the refs taking over the game but congrats you got the NFL and Roger Goodell backing you since Mahomes came into the league.... Go Figure... Roger Goodell was investigated over some crap from the Brady- Patriots debacle and destroying evidence of rigging games but nothing was done about it. Goodell said himself that the NFL is not a sport it is for "entertainment purposes only"!!!! Think about that will ya. I agree the 21 Season looked like the Chiefs let the Bengals win the AFC Championship game when refs wasn't enough to stop us.... the same thing happened last season in the Championship game. The Bengals let y'all get to the Superbowl. You actually think Ossai pushed Mahomes out of bounds by accident?!!!! They needed the 15 yards to hit the field goal. It was way out of his range till ossai did that crap!!!

You think it was a coincidence that there was an intentional grounding call in both of the last 2 meetings with us that both announcers talked about how that was not grounding.... Both times the ball rolled within 5 yards of a receiver man COME ON! OPEN YOUR EYES!!!! Should not have been a flag. Our tight end got pushed down from behind 15 20 yards downfield in that last possession but illegal contact or holding or pass interference was never called against the Chiefs!!!!!

But this season there has been just about half the NFL teams screwed over by the refs in just about every game this year! It's not ref mistakes man. They let whoever they want to win that is written in a script at the beginning of the season. Does anyone remember in the first couple weeks of this season that the ESPN and NFL network guys said this season was the season for the crappy teams to step up and sure enough!!!! Funny how refs tossing flags at just the right times can take all your momentum away for the rest of the game! Prove me wrong!!!!

#INVESTIGATE-THE-NFL&Roger-Goodell

AND I STILL SAY HE IS A CLOWN!!!!

You didn't really address what my post was about.

Oh, and it looks like both Boyd and Higgens are in the last year of their contracts. That will be interesting. Your team has had the benefit of being able to pay low amounts of $$$ to QB and those 3 WRs. That will not be the case going forward. Your team will probably lose one or both of those WRs.

BTW , oh the irony here. I could've sworn that there were a few Chiefs fans in the GDT crying the same tune about kicking field goals the whole game. There had to be at least 25% of them in there crying "Go for it" Go for it" "Go for it".

Taking points over and over no matter how is the right thing to do. I'd be enjoying it if it was my team FG kicking itself to a win true.

Last weekend, not enjoying it so much but you know.

You usually don't beat good teams settling for FG's, but the Bungholes don't qualify as a "'good team", so the FG fest was more than enough to end Cincy's season in Arrowhead (for the second time in 2023).

Cincy @ KC again next season. These teams playing each other a lot now.

5 games recently, split 3-2 (2-1 reg season,, 1-1 playoffs)

Maybe they'll face off each other twice next season again (reg and playoffs).

Hows your predictions working out? Sit the damn down.

Chase will get big $$$. Knowing their "loyalty" and what they've stated in the past, i think they'll offer Tee what they consider a fair deal and if he rejects (which i expect) they will have the option to tag and keep/trade him. Boyd hasn't done a lot the last couple years and i've never heard his say anything about wanting to move on, so we'll see. They have several guys behind them that they're happy with though.

Tee has a lot of injuries but is a fast healer. Interesting how that can be looked at

This is a reasonable take. And yes, there are always whiney, moron fans that say stuff like that. I think too many people are caught up in those analytics these days. That's why I love Reid. He's old school in that way.

The goal is to add as many points as possible. Walking away with none doesn't do that. At some point you have to weigh the odds of success and take something over nothing.

and it's situational with the team you have at that particular time... Great offense, pourous defense, you probably want to risk getting 7's over 3's. Great defense, average offense, you play like Reid did on Sunday.

Yup. For a team struggling to score you take any points you can get and lean on the defense.

Why would anyone wear that too a game. Not that I mind but it's really odd.
