That's true. I remembered their seed being better than it was (probably due to the Curry effect). Massively underseeded for what was about a top 10 team in the country.

DrunkBassGuitar 03-26-2022 07:14 AM

KU's gonna win

Red Dawg 03-26-2022 07:16 AM

KU should win. They have beaten much better teams than Miami.

We just saw this same scenario vs. Creighton. You know Miami is going to follow the same strategy. If Self is stubborn and plays McCormack, we can lose this game.

Great coaches do this all the time. Cincy rushed 3 and played 10 yards off the ball, Reid refused to run the ball. We are going to win the way we want to win regardless of the defense the other team is throwing at us.

We won against Creighton because Self put him on the bench. He needs to sit there again for this game.

KU is in trouble. Deep trouble.

You do this every tourney game every year.

It’s stale.

Wouldn't be a tourney game without KCC coming in to tell us how much better these teams that finish 4th in their conference and unranked are than KU.

Gonna get boat raced.... AGAIN.

From there, it was one of those if-you-can’t-beat-’em-join-’em situations for the Jayhawks (31-6). Eventually, Croswell slowed down. But throwing the ball into McCormack and trying to re-establish a presence in the paint helped Kansas survive the Friars’ threat of taking control of the game.

“We wouldn't have won the game without him,” Self said of McCormack, who got to the free throw line a couple of times late and hit four of six charity shots overall.

Bothered by a foot injury throughout the season, McCormack continues to look like a guy who is playing at less than 100%. He and Self have been asked about his foot on multiple occasions during the past several weeks and both continue to say it’s fine. Sore, but fine.

And there’s not a soul alive who thinks that McCormack is going to start worrying about it now, with his team one win away from reaching the Final Four. According to their coach, the Jayhawks might not be in that position if not, in some small part, for the play of their big man on Friday night.

“At the end of the day he delivered for us when it counted,” Self said. “So it's not how you start, it's how you finish.”
http://www2.kusports.com/news/2022/m...-help-kansas-/

Self even loved how he played yesterday's game. There's no question what happens on Sunday.

It’s really become a boy-who-cried-wolf. If every team is a serious threat then no team is. Constantly warning we could lose is so lame becasue everyone already knows that. It’s the tourney.

In reality, we are playing about as weak an EE opponent as possible. -8 spread. Imagine what KCC would do it we played Dook Arky Houston or Nova tomorrow.

I'm worried about Dook refs most of all, seems we are playing the Rodney Dangerfield role against the likes of Providence and co

ESPN piece on reseeding the Elite Eight.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.esp...3fplatform=amp

Quote:

1. Kansas Jayhawks
Original seed: No. 1
Elite Eight seed: No. 1
2022 tournament record: Defeated No. 16 Texas Southern 83-56; defeated No. 9 Creighton 79-72; defeated No. 4 Providence 66-61

In 2020-21, Remy Martin recorded four games with 30 points or more for Arizona State. With Ochai Agbaji and David McCormack returning from the previous season, Kansas didn't need any additional pieces. Still, Martin's arrival through the transfer portal over the summer expanded the talent pool for a squad that was already considered a national championship contender.

Then his season stalled, thanks to a lingering knee injury. Even when he was available for long stretches at the start of the season, Martin never looked like the first team all-Pac-12 player who had averaged 19.1 PPG in back-to-back seasons before coming to Lawrence. As Kansas continued to excel, he had challenges finding a role on a team that had established players at every spot on the floor and reliable reserves.

But this, right now, is the Remy Martin we thought we would see back in November. This is the Remy Martin who has given Bill Self a significant opportunity to win his second national title. Since the start of the Big 12 tournament, KU's opponents have made just 39.8% of their shots inside the arc. That defense is guiding this team. And Martin has been consistent, averaging 19.3 PPG and connecting on 64% of his shots inside the arc and 40% of his 3-point attempts in the NCAA tournament.

Five months ago, we wondered what Kansas' ceiling was: "How good can Kansas be if Martin becomes the same star he was in the Pac-12?" Now we have the answer.

Teahan didn't play minutes for that team, so can't be blaming him. Reed and Morningstar missed nearly every shot they took, though. Sounds pretty similar to Agbaji and Braun in this entire tourney, who have a tendency to wilt in pressure moments.

It's terrible that a game from 10 years ago has so much influence on this game even though nobody on either team played in it.

smithandrew051 03-26-2022 01:34 PM

It’d be nice to see Agbaji have a Hinrich ‘03 moment.

Hinrich was horrible against Duke in the sweet 16 and was held to 2 points. Then he exploded for nearly 30 against Arizona to get us to the Final Four.

Kirk Hinrich was really good at basketball though. Agbaji less so.

The shots are going to be there for him due to the defense that Miami plays. Just has to make them (which he almost certainly won't based on his track record in such games).

Well obviously Hinrich was better, but this matchup is much more favorable for a slump buster. Hinrich was playing a stacked Arizona team with Jason Gardner, Luke Walton, Andre Iguodala, Channing Frye, and Salim Stoudemire. Agbaji is playing a terrible defense.

The reality of this game is that we're a better team than Miami and if we play well, we'll win. If we play bad, we lose. So with all of kcc's doom and gloom, it's just like 99% of every other KU basketball games. It just depends if that team or the team that got smoked by UK shows up.

If you believe Nate bronze ku is the favorite to win it all

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com...s-predictions/

E: okay not anymore now it's Villanova lol

But they also said Hillary would win so now they are wrong and dumb

This Houston v Nova game is ugly

smithandrew051 03-26-2022 06:12 PM

Curious how serious that Nova injury is

I wouldn't know. In any case, this game is over. The ultra efficient matchup nightmare that is Villanova enters the FF once again, but we can worry about that another day.

KC_Connection 03-26-2022 06:18 PM

Gillespie was literally making 3s for this team the last time Villanova beat KU in the FF in 2018. Leave college already.

The same Villanova that's shooting 28% overall and 23% from 3 and scored 50 points? That efficient Villanova?

Houston wins today if they make more than one 3 pointer.

That reminded 100% of when Berry tore his achilles vs the Cheatriots years back. Hopefully I'm wrong. That would suck to make it all this way and to have a injury like that.

I was thinking Achilles immediately too.

He looked back at his ankle while he was still running. Like someone was pulling on it and he was looking to see who it was.

Definitely Achilles. He won't be playing next week.

Houston was the best overall team (and best defensive team) statistically remaining in the tournament until tonight, so the scoring numbers tonight weren't too surprising.

smithandrew051 03-26-2022 06:51 PM

Second leading scorer. Ouch. Huge loss.

He is garbage. Even I couldn't make him out to be a threat.
