We are all speculating.

It is entirely possible Sanders is best QB in the class. It is entirely possible Ward is.

I'm really not too high on any QB in this class to be honestz though.

Sure, anything is possible.

But Cam Ward's tape is just better. It's a far better bet than Sanders and we are not even getting into mental makeup where Cam Ward is far better than Shader Sanders.

Sanders has a chance but if you ask me to guess if he makes it it will be on his 2nd or 3rd team. He might have to be humbled first and then he could have a Geno Smith impact someday.,

Sanders has starting potential but there are a lot of things that have to go right even if his head wasn't as big as it is.

Don't know what the sandlot bit is about, but I doubt that Cousins' arm is much better than Sander's. Plenty of tape of Sanders throwing 50+ yds with accuracy. kirk never showed he could throw much farther, if at all, or with anymore accuracy. Kirk is a technician; he developed himself into a solid technical QB that understands the Xs and Os at a relatively high level, that's his advantage over many modern/young Qbs, not anything to do with his physial abilities.

Shadeurs tape shows him throwing well to all levels of the field and being quite accurate on the run. His biggest problem is he holds onto the ball too long, like Caleb Williams does. He does not have the physical ability of Williams but it isnt like he is a slouch physically either.

People acting like Sanders is a 5th round talent are off base imo. He absolutely has the talent to succeed in the NFL. Does he have the headspace? We will see.

Sanders doesn't play on time.

At all. Ever.

It's EASILY the biggest knock on him. The arm strength is...fine. The accuracy is...fine. Mid-tier starting QB in terms of physical traits.

But he doesn't run an offense. He holds the ball too long and doesn't really go through progressions.

I don't think 'sandlot' is an unfair label to tag to his playstyle at all. Lots of guys have played like him and the very few that succeed have a preternatural feel for the game (Mahomes) or they have a sort of lunatic fearlessness combined with plus tools that makes them pretty damn good (Baker).

I think Sanders MIGHT have that fearlessness but I don't think he has plus tools. And I think his feel is orders of magnitude worse than Baker's.

That's the target for him, though. If absolutely everything goes right, I could see him becoming Baker someday. I just don't think he has nearly the mobility, arm talent or improvisational ability that Baker has.

I didn't know about the timing/anticipation thing. wondered about it. though we have guys like Hurts and Tua, neither of whom have much arm strength, or are consistent with their timing either, so it's not an absolute prerequisite.

I'm surprised that you think Baker is more mobile than Sanders. Of course, I haven't watched more than a handful of CU games, so I'm no expert on that, but Baker ain't fast or particularly mobile, as we all know. If Sanders is really less mobile, well, that would be a bit of a problem, as i do agree that Sanders isn't really a play-within-structure QB.

DJ's left nut 04-29-2025 01:47 PM

Baker has that same 'odd' mobility that Mahomes has.

I'm not sure how fast he is in a straight line, but he moves around/out of the pocket well and can throw while in motion.

I just don't see that from Sanders. When he pops, it's from the pocket.

He loses far more off platform than Mayfield. Mayfield is asset in that regard; Sanders is ordinary. At best.

BryanBusby 04-29-2025 01:47 PM

Sanders was trying to hero ball every single game. Some weeks it worked great and others were a raging tire fire.

Pretty sure Baker was a tick or two slower than Mahomes in the 40. In the pocket, Baker has learned to be pretty elusive, and he's always been tough to tackle in small areas, I think mostly because he just won't go down.

but yeah, Baker can throw pretty well on the move; it was definitely one of his biggest assets last season when his tackles were getting hurt every other week and both Evans and Godwin got hurt for that month or so.

If Sanders can't make intermediate throws on the move consistently i'll have to reevaluate my take on Sanders. I thought he could do that to some decent degree.
