LETS GO BLUES
|
Ovechkin within 10 of Gretzky now... had he kept his season pace without missing 16 games, he would have topped it by now.
And nine goals in his last 10 games. |
Didn't like Ovechkin at first, but he's grown on me the last several years. But no matter how many goals he scores, he ain't no Gretsky.
|
Quote:
One playoffs a few years ago, he took a shot from his typical spot and it clean missed the net... he went down to his knees to pout about it as the puck went around the boards and the other way. And I though, damn that guy may never win a Cup. And of course that was the same year they won the Cup. LMAO I think most people expected him to drop off to ~20 goals/season and for this to take at least another season if not two... crazy to think it could happen in the next month or so. |

He'll also blow you right the **** up if you don't have your head up.
He's not as physical as he used to be, but Ovi used to be a tank and someone who had to make sure you kept an eye on while he was on the ice. He wasn't someone looking to hit guys, but if you made it easy on him, he'd punish your ass. Gretzky would just use it as a chance for an easy line change. |
Avalanche acquired Brock Nelson in their latest attempt at 2C.
|
Well, **** him forever.

But on the bright side, fills the Avs biggest hole. Been trying to get a 2C since they let Kadri go, which in hindsight was a mistake. Avs are obviously going all-in for this window with Nate. This move makes them a legit Cup contender this season. |

This one fits Bearcat's interests. |
Some gloomy times for PA hockey teams.

Yeah, they're definitely being more aggressive this time around and throwing caution to the wind with picks and prospects. |
Did Reaves clear waivers? Panthers might as well pick him up, too.
|
I'm waiting for the playoffs to start.
|
Gross that Rantanen ended up with the Stars. Hope he sucks there as bad as he has in Carolina.
Neat that EJ is back in Colorado, though I don't expect much from him. Great for the locker room at a minimum, though. |

Avs pushing all their chips in. Picking up really solid pieces, future be damned. And if we get another Cup, I'm honestly fine with that. Nate turns 30 before the start of next season. A window that seemed like it was closing quickly is now open again. And Mittelstadt seems like a solid dude, but you've gotta bring more to the table as a 2C than he was bringing.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-theme="dark"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Charlie Coyle to the Avs ️<br><br>Presented by <a href="https://twitter.com/pinkwhitney?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@pinkwhitney</a> <a href="https://t.co/r3e5RSceqT">pic.twitter.com/r3e5RSceqT</a></p>— Spittin' Chiclets (@spittinchiclets) <a href="https://twitter.com/spittinchiclets/status/1898087607516438695?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 7, 2025</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
I've seen mixed reviews on the Coyle trade. Mittelstadt looked good after the trade, but of course has dropped off and they needed to fix 2C... some are saying Coyle's dropped off, too, and it could have been straight up player for player, but whatever.
Glad they made multiple moves at center, really. |
Gonna be fun to watch the Avs and Dallas go at it next week and possibly in the playoffs. Both loaded up, and you've got the Mikko dynamic.
Ton of pressure on the Avs from here on. They sold some big future assets and they're still only a wildcard team with ~ 20 games left. Not even a lock to make the playoffs yet. Not making a deep run to at least the conference finals would be terrible. With what they gave up, they need to win it all. They're +900 to win the Cup after these trades. Tempting. |
Another solid game and another 7 goals for the Avalanche.
|
Wonder if MacKinnon is the first player to ever get his 1000th point twice in the same game.
|
You ever wonder how these goalies get a stop? It just takes the smallest crease to score a goal. That always mesmerizes me when watching an NHL game.
|
Blacked out from both the Knights/Wings (didn't care) and Avalanche/Stars here in Phoenix for... reasons... when it's a nationally televised game that can't be watched anywhere else.
What a ****ing joke for a niche sport... apparently some people in Colorado couldn't even watch the Avalanche game on TNT. |
Quote:
Yah, it's frustrating as hell. barely get to watch 3-4 Blues games/season now, unless I'm willing to go out to a bar. And even then sometimes even the bars won't have it. |
The Frozen Four has quietly been the best college postseason of the year... UConn/Penn State about to go to OT while March Madness has sadly been disappointing today.
|
LET'S GO BLUES!!!!!!!!! 10 IN A ROW BABY
|
Great 8 scores again. Two more goals to tie.

Quote:
What Ovechkin has done as a goal scorer in this era is far more impressive than Gretzky (again, strictly as a goal scorer) |
Just a year ago people were projecting 'what if he scores 15-20 over the next few years'... and now he's about to capture another 40 goal season at 39yo.

Didn't realize that until tonight when I got blocked about 5 minutes into the game. It's dumber than saying it's exclusive to Peacock or Altitude+ or whatever.... it's a ****ing nationally televised game. |
Thanks. Im watching it on Streameast. I’d rather steal it just out of spite.
|
Not a great time for the Avs to go on a slide.
|
Well, spoke too soon!
|
I guess 7-3 on the road in a B2B makes up for the reeruned blackout last night.... :)
|
This streak is insane.

Let’s win the cup. |
Rob Thomas deserved that winner.
He was outstanding all night and just missed 2 or 3 goals prior to the winner. I'm not sure if he'll ever break 100 pts in a season but he'll challenge 90 in just about any healthy season. He's just a damn skilled player and has matured a ton. Few guys like that on the team. Will Kyrou break 40? Neighbours 30? Bolduc? Holloway? Who knows - but I think those guys will all pretty routinely challenge those numbers. Now let's go steal JJ Peterka from Buffalo with another offer sheet and see how things look next season... |

We got screwed on that icing call. I think it was from Buchnevich. Felt like we were on our heels from that point forward. |

Yah. Feels like 2019 all over again. |
Thomas game winner was a hell of shot.

Quote:
The 2019 team felt like a really good team that was maddeningly underperforming because it had a REALLY shitty coach (Yeo was just so ****ing bad). They'd made the playoffs 5 straight years heading into the prior season when that dipshit took over. Firing him brought them back to where they were before they foolishly hired him to begin with. But the core of the team was still very experienced. This team just feels young and improving but not as ready as the 2019 squad was, IMO. This actually feels a lot like the 2012 Blues. They were developing a new young core around an established championship caliber coach who replaced a slightly overmatched young coach early in the season. They improved as that new set of young guys got some confidence. That team didn't feel like a Cup winner to me (they lost in the 2nd round) and I don't really think this one does either. But it felt like the start of something important. This feels more and more like that every week. I'm just not feelin' the 2019 comparison though. |
Quote:
Oh, I wasn't thinking they're the same kind of team, just that they're on a hot streak in a very similar way the 2019 was at the end of the season. |
Good to see they've expanded coverage for the Caps and Ovechkin... I glanced at it a month ago and the ones listed with MNMT weren't being broadcasted anywhere else.... and just a couple days ago, tonight's game was NHLN only.

If I saw that right going into today Ovechkin and Gretsky are tied with the same number of games played and goals scored. That's a crazy coincidence.
Goals scored 894 Games played 1487 |
Nasty Ovechkin slapshot just buried Gretskys' record.
|
On the power play from his favorite spot. How fitting

All-time greatest offensive producer in the history of sport.

Not sure what's more impressive - Ovi breaking a record I thought was untouchable or how hot his smoke show of a wife is. Congratulations on both of those tremendous achievements.

Yah, don’t know how anyone could say Ovi’s the greatest‘offensive producer ever.’ Scorer, yes. Not producer. Not by a long shot. Congrats to Ovechkin for crossing that threshold though. Amazing feat in itself. |

They're tanking in the NHL just like the NBA now |
Quote:

Wow they still had those Eagle jerseys when he first played. lol
|
It's probably also worth pointing out that Gretzky was never the best goal scorer ever. His goals record in that way is similar to LeBron's in the NBA for most points ever. Now he certainly is one of the best goal scorers ever and also happened to play at a high level for a very long time, but Lemieux's goals per game average was significantly higher than Gretzky.
Like LeBron, it was Gretz's playmaking ability (he has 900+ more points than anybody in history) that made him the GOAT. |
