Anyone missing Wylie must not have watched Wylie getting beaten over and over. I'll admit that Wylie got better as the season progressed. Still, he was never that great. Above average, at best. And the chiefs had to often give him help with a back chipping, etc.
JT will be fine.

Dunerdr 09-17-2023 06:13 PM

Jesus guys take the gun out of your mouth. He was targeted and half those penalties were iffy at best.

Hoover 09-17-2023 06:15 PM

Yeah. Total bullshit.

They threw a shit ton of flags when we had the ball and we still won. He’ll be fine

Against his old team I would venture there was a lot noise coming out of Jax about him to the league.

Yeah it was a perfect storm of attention the week before plus playing the team that knows about his technique the most.

That wasn’t Beane.

So maybe you should sit out this conversation.

I thought it was well known that the Chiefs were unhappy with Brown’s play and tended to win despite him rather than because of him.

Apologies if I inadvertently insulted your great former tackle Orlando Brown Jr who you didn’t even bother to make an offer to in order to keep him.

OBJ has played like ass for the bengals. His pff stats were aided by mahomes and his ability to extend plays.

L.A. Chieffan 09-17-2023 08:13 PM

Since PFF is owned by Collinsworth and based out of Ohio all of Bengals and especially OBJs ratings have to be taken with even more giant grain of salt than usual from PFF

It's very clear the cards were stacked against the Chiefs today. Look no further than the crazy number of penalties on our guys and no blatant OPI when Cook got taken out.

We HAVE to clean it up because we're the bad guys and we're not going to get the breaks. When the stage gets bigger and brighter we may get the calls but early on, when every team still has life, we aren't getting anything.

The non-call on the Cook play had me raging. That was so blatant and obvious. Then we had to be concerned it was so egregious he was actually injured by it. Glad we won and he's fine so I can let it go now, but man.

Why do people believe the refs will stop picking on Taylor going forward?

I knew this when we lost a game last year due to Chris Jones saying a bad word to Matt Ryan.

Sure did. And since we proved we don't need Tyreek to win a championship, I'd rather they threw the money at protecting Mahomes, anyway.

As for the penalties......meh. They'll get it buttoned up.

Where Taylor positions himself on the line of scrimmage is easy to fix. That's something they'll clean up.

The timing on the snap thing is not as easy, and I do wonder if the wet ball and trouble with snapping that Humphrey was having threw that cadence off a little bit.

I'm confident he'll get it cleaned up. The second holding call was also pretty questionable to me yesterday. Glad they got him a breather/break, and then got him back out there. He was pretty effective after the reset, I thought.

It happened because he's obviously jumping early on a lot of plays. Everyone can see it. He needs to get it cleaned up, and if he can't do the anticipating the snap thing he needs to stop trying to do it.

I'm guessing Johnson hasn't changed the way he plays.

Yesterday's game ref, Adrian Hill, sounds like he was the class tattle-tale when he was a kid.

His vocalizations and tone of voice when announcing penalties says natural confidential snitch informer narc.

According to his wikipedia: Hill is an aerospace software engineer at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) Space Exploration Sector.

Man if that place is a government contractor, he is going to whistleblower that place into oblivion if they do anything wrong.

If not for Collinsworth and NBC deciding to sabotage the dude for some insane reason, we'd be talking about what a great signing this was.

Anybody saying he sucks shouldn't even be taken seriously.

FloridaMan88 09-19-2023 11:34 AM

Taylor has been the most penalized player in the NFL since he entered the league in 2019, so presumably the Chiefs were aware of that when they signed him.

Donovan Smith is the second most penalized player during that same time-frame.

Taylor is the NFL's most penalized player since entering the league in 2019. He has 49 penalties in that time, according to TruMedia, six more than the second-most penalized player, Donovan Smith, who is the Chiefs' other starting tackle.

They're including Declined penalties. Also, it doesn't point out that 15 of those were his rookie season.

Always better to dig just a little bit more than what's on the surface.

Oh I had already assumed that the majority were from his first year or two. He was too good last year to have a lot of penalties.

Arch Stanton 09-19-2023 06:53 PM

Taylor needs ta change his technique.

Not because it's not legal or done well, but because it's an arguable penalty call whenever a ref decides.

Megatron96 09-19-2023 06:59 PM

This issue with Taylor is going to go away in a few weeks. He's gong to make some adjustments, and the refs will get tired of flagging him, and a month from now it'll basically be a non-issue. Same as CJ getting flagged for tackling too hard/saying mean things last year.

This is literally the least important issue the team has to worry about this season.

We should get the Jawaan Taylor banner ready to go. It's just about that time.

Pitt Gorilla 10-01-2023 07:28 PM

The penalty worked in our favor. We gave up 2 points, but they had to start at the 25. Punting from the 1/2 inch line likely wouldn't have been great. Of course, they still scored with a little help from their friends.
