Sims-Walker came on pretty strong last year and they also added Kasim Osgood, but that still isn't good enough to get the job done. I seriously considered Morgan with the pick, but they invested two high draft picks on DEs in the past few years. They have holes everywhere, so I went BPA, which still fills a huge need.

The Franchise 03-10-2010 11:21 AM

I knew you wanted Thomas....and I tried my hardest not to take him. I just didn't see anyone that was really worth that pick. The 49ers can use a safety.

The Franchise 03-10-2010 11:21 AM

Plus if Mays was there.....it would have been him over Thomas.

Yeah, I thought either Mays or Thomas would fall that far.

Back to the drawing board.

True....McCoy and Haden would have been an awesome 1st round.

I honestly contemplated going Rolando McClain with this last pick as well. McClain and Willis would be beastly in the 3-4.....but that's pretty much overkill.

I honestly think Haden is nearly as valuable at 13 as McCoy was at 6. Two guys that should've been snatched up before we had the chance IMO.

I knew after the combine that Mays wasn't going to last to 14. It's no secret that I've thought for a long time that he'll be the best safety in this class 15 years from now.

The Franchise 03-10-2010 11:33 AM

Yeah....there was a list of about 5 people that I wanted with the 49ers picks in the 1st round.....and I didn't get any of them. ****ing assholes.

I planned on going OT in the 2nd round. Luckily I was able to get value and fill needs with my picks. While they didn't go exactly as I'd planned, I'm pretty happy with the look of the Seahawks with these two guys anchoring the lines.

Indeed, I'm quite interested to see how BossChief uses these picks and OTW's plan B.

Titty Meat 03-10-2010 01:25 PM

Nice pick Direckshun. I was going to reach for Mays if Spiller wasn't there.

Direckshun 03-10-2010 02:01 PM

I should probably go on record saying that I hate Pest's second pick. Especially since he already upgraded the secondary once.

He should have gone with Bruce Campbell, the second best LT in this entire Draft.

The 49ers already signed Joe Staley to a 6 year deal last year. He's not a RT and I don't think Campbell is a RT either. And adding Haden and Thomas to the defensive backfield makes this defense easily Top 10.

You are waaaaaay more convinced than I am that Staley will amount to anything.

Campbell

Why are we even discussing this if you've already won the draft?

My thoughts entirely.

Good job, OTW. Another great Draft.

Have a great one, guys. I'll see you all next year.

BossChief 03-10-2010 03:28 PM

With the 18th pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select Rolando McClain ILB Alabama

With James Farrior turning 35, they need someone to take hold of the middle of their defense and Rolando gives them an outstanding prospect there.

Mecca 03-10-2010 03:30 PM

That's not to bad the Steelers would pick between him and Iupati there, tough call for them.

Make sure you PM yourself that you're next in the draft. :D

Thanks for reminding me! That guy is asleep at the wheel and might have held this whole thing up if I didn't PM him.

Frosty 03-10-2010 03:38 PM

Even with the signing of Robinson, I could see the Falcons drafting Kyle Wilson here. They traded Houston and don't really have a decent #2 corner.

Mecca 03-10-2010 03:39 PM

Last I head the Falcons love Wilson.

Although considering who's on the board here I know where I'd go...

They don't have a 2...I'd take Wilson here but someone else is still here...

doomy3 03-10-2010 03:49 PM

Damn, I am struggling with a couple guys for the Bengals in 2 picks...

Antonio Bryant's signing today throws a wrench into things as well as Earl Thomas and Taylor Mays already off the board.

I know, but like you said, in this situation ATL can go a different direction. Wilson is solid, but there will be another good CB available for their next pick. I loved the idea of Wilson before they signed Robinson. I don't think they go that route anymore.

I have a friend who follows the Bengals pretty close want me to tell you who he thinks they like?

BigChiefFan 03-10-2010 04:03 PM

I know who I have rated very high and if he falls a little more, I'd like to see the Chiefs, possibly trade up for him. I'd rather not say who he is, just to see how far he falls. If he's drafted in the mock, I'll say the players name.

BossChief 03-10-2010 04:05 PM

With the 19th pick in the 2010 NFL draft that Atlanta Falcons select

Sean Weatherspoon LB Mizzou.

This gives them a vocal leader and great player to continue to build the defense around.

I was really torn between Kyle Wilson, Griffen and I even considered Golden Tate and a couple others. They just made a significant investment at corner in FA, Griffin has motivation issues and 19 may be a little high for a slot receiver (Tate in that offense)

Maybe not the best pick, but I think he is gonna be a superstar and you dont pass on those.

Mecca 03-10-2010 04:05 PM

And Boss made the pick I would have made lol.

The Franchise 03-10-2010 04:06 PM

That's a damn good pick.

The Franchise 03-10-2010 04:06 PM

3 hours left before I head home. I wonder if I'll get a chance to make my pick....

Damn, I didnt even get a chance to PM OTWP and his pick is already on the board!

Well oiled machine!

Mecca 03-10-2010 04:10 PM

Couple of real value picks left on the board...

The Franchise 03-10-2010 04:11 PM

Annnnnnnnnd we're flying....

OnTheWarpath15 03-10-2010 04:11 PM

If I had the opportunity, I'd be looking to trade down here. The Texans have a CB they really like, but he'd be a reach here, and we'd be shocked if he's still on the board when we pick at 51.

Even more frustrating is that IMO, the need doesn't meet the value here - had Weatherspoon lasted one more pick I would have very seriously considered taking him and playing him at WILL with Cushing and Ryan.

But he didn't, which puts me in the position of picking someone that I'm not terrible happy to take here. I hope the lack of competition faced doesn't come back to haunt us.

The Texans select Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State

The Franchise 03-10-2010 04:13 PM

Cushing - Ryan - Witherspoon

That would be have been a sick LB group. JFC.

doomy3 03-10-2010 04:23 PM

I really wanted either Earl Thomas or Taylor Mays with this pick, but both are off the board. WR would have been the other position I would have strongly considered, but with Antonio Bryant signed today, that becomes less of a pressing need. Truth be told, I would have probably signed Brandon Marshall to an offer sheet and hoped to get him with this pick, but all that didn't happen.

So, the Bengals take the highest rated player on their board, regardless of position. The Bengals could really use help at the interior line spots, as well as the DT spots. Brian Price was a definite consideration here, but following their board, the Bengals select Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho.

Mecca 03-10-2010 04:25 PM

Damn, that's not where I would have gone but ok not a bad pick.

BossChief 03-10-2010 04:28 PM

I would have taken Gresham I think...but Iupati is a good pick!

Mecca 03-10-2010 04:31 PM

I'd have gone with Brian Price, see we all have different views there.

Haha, Gresham was another guy I was considering. I just think he offers a lot of the same skills, and problems, that Coffman offers. Both are great receiving TEs, who are unproven blockers. I was REALLY close to making that pick, but just couldn't until they see what they have in Coffman.

Mecca 03-10-2010 04:55 PM

I'm pretty sure I'll get who I want for the Packers unless Hamas just makes a bizarre pick.

Sfeihc 03-10-2010 05:00 PM

I've got a good idea who you're taking, Mecca. Hamas, I'm not so sure about but I don't think he'll take the player I have in mind for the Pack.

BTW, glad to see you back in the loop.

Mr. Flopnuts 03-10-2010 05:01 PM

I'll be thrilled if can wrap up the 1st round tonight or early tomorrow morning.

I think you should have taken Weatherspoon for the Giants, just me though.

Mecca 03-10-2010 05:04 PM

You guys don't know me very well.

KCrockaholic 03-10-2010 05:06 PM

Random thought. If Gresham falls to KC's 2a, should they draft him? Even if Cody is still on the board?

Mecca 03-10-2010 05:06 PM

That's not happening, if he falls to this point expect him to be a Raven.

Spoon is stud material and he would fit in well with the Giants.

I like how this is shaping the 2nd round.

Hamas could take campbell as a development player, or he could go odrick or price depending on what he thinks new englands defensive scheme plans are.
Posted via Mobile Device

Mecca 03-10-2010 05:25 PM

If he's going to take a DL he should take Odrick, NE takes certain kinds of linemen and he fits that bill.

Titty Meat 03-10-2010 05:32 PM

Odricks a good pick. I wonder if Mecca reaches for a CB for Green Bay or goes o-line.

I agree, but new england has changed their scheme slightly over the last year and could make use of price as well, imo. Odrick is the more ideal choice given the patriots history, however.

Direckshun 03-10-2010 05:34 PM

This is easily the most interesting first round we've had in the four years I've been doing this.

You guys really think about these selections hard, and it shows. This is probably the most thoughtful mock I've followed.

Mecca 03-10-2010 05:34 PM

Hamas probably won't take any of the players I'm looking at but if this pick really came out Green Bay sits here with basically 5 players they could go with.

They'd either be in the cat bird seat or they could drop down a few picks one or the other.

I'm 90% sure who I'm taking but there's a little bit of creeping in there looking at who else is there.

Direckshun 03-10-2010 05:36 PM

My thought is Mecca goes with Anthony Davis or Damian Williams.

There are, by my count, three viable second tier left tackles on the board. Intriguing.

I don't think that will be the case come draft day. I thought more would be off the board by now.

Mecca 03-10-2010 05:40 PM

Well 2 of the players I'm looking at here have been mentioned...I don't feel Green Bay should go WR with their 1st pick, not with the talent on the board here so Tate and Williams no.

How ape**** will people go if Pioli selects Bulaga over Berry if Okung is gone?

the Talking Can 03-10-2010 05:44 PM

if i were the ravens, i'd be praying for Tate

they still need youth and speed at WR, and someone to really take advantage of Flacco's arm....

Mecca 03-10-2010 05:44 PM

Pretty apeshit, I even saw Jeremiah call Bulaga a RT, when scouts are doing it, not good.
