Here is a link to our poll after Year 1: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=223581
Looking forward to improving on the 2010 draft, to put it mildly. This is going to be like therapy. |
Okay - as per rules established last year, I am posting this now while it's fresh in my mind, but nothing is "locked" until 10 days before training camp begins.
Fresno Refugees 2010 Draft: *REJECT* the trade up for Pick #93 that was used to draft the TE 1. Eric Berry, S, Tennessee 2a. Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas 2b. Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama 3. Jon Asamoah, OG, Illinois 4. Ricky Sapp, OLB, Clemson 5a. Perrish Cox, CB, Oklahoma State 5b. Matt Tennant, C, Boston College 5c. Cam Thomas, NT, North Carolina 6. Dezmon Briscoe, WR, Kansas 7. Selvish Capers, OT, West Virginia |

ok done some thinking traded Tank Tyler midseason, traded thigpen when we did never traded for the two bumbs in Miami. so with that 1st, 2 2nds, 3rd, 4th, 3 5ths, and a 6th 1st: Eric Berry S Tennessee 2nd: Javier Arenas CB Alabama 2nd: Brandon Spikes ILB Florida 3rd: Jon Asamoah OG Illinois 4th: Kam Chancelor FS Virginia Tech 5th: CAm Thomas NT North Carolina 5th: John Skelton QB Fordham 5th: Matt Tenet OC Boston College 6th: George Selvie OLB South Florida |
Okay, so far we only have two drafts reported on. Assuming we have the same rule as last year, this locks down 10 days prior to training camp beginning.

Here are the 2009 end rosters for those of you entering Year 2. You'll need to lock down your roster quickly since I've been remiss about getting this geared up.

The Duluth Normans rejected all trades last year, so we have the Chiefs' basic picks.
Normans reject the trade of the 102nd (4th round) and 144th pick (5th round) for the 93rd pick (3rd round) that was made by the Chiefs to select Tony Moeaki. (The Normans already have a pretty good Tony at TE.) Normans accept the trade that sent Tyler Thigpen to the Dolphins for the 142nd pick (5th round) Normans reject the trade that sent Tank Tyler to the Panthers for the 144th pick (5th round). We still think Tank has potential. Since we rejected the Alleman/Ndukwe trade last year, we retain the 173rd pick (6th round) that the Chiefs traded. Since we rejected the draft pick trade leading to Jake O'Connell last year, the Normans retain the 212th pick (7th round) So our draft lineup is: 1st - Pick 5 2nd - Pick 36 3rd - Pick 68 4th - Pick 102 5th - Pick 136 5th - Pick 142 6th - Pick 173 7th - Pick 212 We will draft the following: 1st - Pick 5 - RB C.J. Spiller. (Bills) Do we need him? No. But we think he's a playmaker, and we want playmakers on this team. 2nd - Pick 36 - QB Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) Yeah, even though we have Sanchez. We believe in depth and competition at key positions. 3rd - Pick 68 - DE Alex Carrington (Bills). We're shifting to a 4-3 and he can man the left side. 4th - Pick 102 - OT Bruce Campbell (Raiders) We need help at tackle and he's available. 5th - Pick 136 - FS Kendrick Lewis (Chiefs) Like the Chiefs pick, so we'll take him. 5th - Pick 142 - SS Reshad Jones (Dolphins) Looking for a little strong safety help, too. 6th - Pick 173 - WR Dezmon Brisco (Bengals) Any help we can get at WR would be appreciated. 7th - Pick 212 - LB Dekoda Watson (Buccaneers). Hope he can develop into a full-time LB This is our current roster coming out of last season. Chiefs training camp begins on 7/29. By that I assume that we are still basically requiring teams to lock down by 7/19.
As I recall we are already down to only 6 teams competing. I think only 4 have reported their 2010 drafts so far. Come on, people! I plan on winning this thing. |
Working on my 40-man roster. I'm determined to keep doing this, as I am somewhat obsessed with this game. Rainman - do we have a deadline?

Let's go up to 43 players this year. We should be able to fill more as time goes on.
|
As Step 1 of the 2010 process, this is my team's training camp. My veterans are in black, my free agents are in blue, and my drafted rookies are in red. In my next post, I'll cut it down to 43 players.
Remember that you CANNOT sign a member of the Chiefs if you've previously rejected that person. So for example, if you didn't draft Tyson Jackson or Eric Berry, you can't claim them. You can only claim people that YOU drafted. Also, you can claim free agents IF this is their FIRST year on the team. So in other words, your 2010 training camp is as follows: 1. your veterans from last year. 2. NEW free agents coming to the Chiefs in 2010. 3. YOUR rookie draft picks. QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) Brodie Croyle Tyler Thigpen (Dolphins) Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) HB Jamaal Charles Larry Johnson Jackie Battle Dantrell Savage 20 Jones, Thomas RB 5-10 212 32 11 Virginia C.J. My review of how I've diverged from the real Chiefs.
Positions where I'm better than the real Chiefs: QB - I've invested heavily in young QBs, and it looks like Sanchez is paying off as my starter. Clausen will hopefully develop behind him. HB - Charles and Spiller? I've got a strong RB corp, and Spiller will split out occasionally to help my weak WR corps. TE - Tony G. What can I say? DT - I've added Dorsey back to this group and switched to a 4-3, which is a better use of our talent. Otherwise the same. Areas where I'm about the same as the real Chiefs: WR - I don't have McCluster, but Spiller will do the same thing. Otherwise a wash. T - I think Barry Richardson has potential, but so does Alex Boone. The real Chiefs might be a little ahead of me, but I have two developmental prospects. It looks like the Raiders may be lining Campbell up at guard, though. C - I don't have Niswanger, but I kept Wade Smith. I think I'm a little better, but it's not a big difference. P - Colquitt. Why mess with perfection? CB - Probably a wash overall. Two good starters and it goes downhill from there. OLB - Hard to judge this since I'm moving Hali back to DE in a 4-3 alignment. Maualaga and Studebaker will start for me, with Dekoda Watson backing them up. I think I'm okay. DE - I'm moving Dorsey back to DT, but I like my DEs. I've got Hali and Gilberry on the right side to rush the passer, and Pryor and Carrington on the left side to stuff the run. I think eventually my group will prevail. Pryor can drop inside to DT occasionally, too. Areas where I'm weaker than the real Chiefs: G - I didn't draft Asamoah and drafted Duke Robinson, who is now on injured reserve for the year. I made the tough decision to hold him for a year to see if he comes through. K - It's really hurt me that I didn't draft Succop last year, so I'm still running with a scrub kicker. S - I drafted Kendrick Lewis, and got Reshard Jones to be my strong safety. (The Dolphins have moved him to free safety, but I have to leave him at SS.) Of course, I drafted Spiller over Berry, so I don't have Berry. ILB - I've got DJ and Demorrio, but no depth right now. Since I'm moving people, I'll note my front seven against the real Chiefs' front seven. Them: Hali, Vrabel, Belcher, Johnson, Jackson, Dorsey, Edwards. Me: Maualaga, Studebaker, Johnson, Hali, Pryor, Dorsey, Edwards. I think I like my group better. |
Here's mine, as always reserving the right to tweak until the deadline.

I think we're still working our way up to 53, and this year we're at 43. I propose this just so we have to cut some "real" Chiefs and make some decisions there. Or do you think we're okay to go to 53?
|
Did we have an IR or developmental roster last year? I don't recall. I'd lean against it, probably, since we'd all have the same players right now.

I have a question about Step 4. The rules say that the number of starts you assign to each player can't exceed that player's actual number of starts. Does that mean that I have to assign starts to "scrub" at ILB even if I have players like Sean Lee or Demorrio Williams who played in several games but who didn't start in a game all season? If so, here is my lineup. I had lots of tough situations on my offensive line this season so I moved Brian Waters to both OT and C and still had to start 2 scrubs on the offensive line almost every week. Ugg.
QB Matt Cassel - 15 Brodie Croyle - 1 RB Jamaal Charles - 6 Thomas Jones - 10 Jackie Battle FB Tim Castille - 4 WR Dwayne Bowe - 16 Chris Chambers - 7 Dexter McCluster - 7 Scrub - 16 David Reed (Ravens) Jeremy Horne TE Leonard Pope - 6 Scrub - 8 Brad Cottam T Branden Albert - 15 Ryan O'Callaghan - 1 Brian Waters - 2 Scrub - 14 G Ryan Lilja - 15 Kraig Urbik (Bills) - 2 Jon Asamoah - 1 Scrub - 14 C Brian Waters - 14 Rudy Niswanger Matt Tennant (Saints) K Ryan Succop - 16 P Dustin Colquitt - 16 FS Jarrad Page (Patriots) Kendrick Lewis - 10 Brandon Carr - 6 SS Eric Berry - 16 CB Brandon Flowers - 15 Brandon Carr - 10 Alterraun Verner (Titans) - 7 OLB Tamba Hali - 16 Mike Vrabel - 16 Andy Studebaker ILB Derrick Johnson - 16 Scrub - 16 Demorrio Williams Corey Mays Sean Lee (Cowboys) DE Tyson Jackson - 3 Glenn Dorsey - 16 Wallace Gilberry - 2 Shaun Smith - 10 Scrub - 1 DT Ron Edwards - 15 Scrub - 1 Tank Tyler (Panthers) Anthony Toribio |
Good question. Let's say that you can start a backup, but you'll need to record them as follows:
Actual NFL starts (your starts) So if you're starting a guy for three games who didn't have any NFL starts, you would denote him as 0 (3). That'll let us know that you're pressing a backup into a starting role, but it's better than starting a scrub. |
Okay, I'm going to go ahead and play by the "old" rules and just list starters. I don't have the energy to re-do this whole thing and allow back-ups to start.
QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) - 16 Brodie Croyle - 0 (1) RB Jamaal Charles - 6 Thomas Jones - 10 Jackie Battle - 0 FB Tim Castille - 4 WR Dwayne Bowe - 16 Chris Chambers - 7 Jeremy Horne - 0 Desmon Briscoe (Buccaneers) - 0 Scrub - 9 TE Leonard Pope - 6 Chase Coffman (Bengals) - 0 Jake O'Connell - 2 Scrub - 8 T Branden Albert - 15 Ryan O'Callaghan - 1 Selvish Capers (Free Agent) - 0 Scrub - 16 G Brian Waters - 16 Ryan Lilja - 15 Jon Asamoah - 1 C Rudy Niswanger - 0 Matt Tennant (Saints) - 0 Scrub - 16 K Ryan Succop - 16 P Dustin Colquitt - 16 S Eric Berry - 16 Jarrad Page (Patriots) - 1 Scrub - 15 CB Brandon Flowers - 15 Brandon Carr - 15 Perrish Cox (Broncos) - 2 (9) OLB Tamba Hali - 16 Clint Sintim (Giants) - 1 Andy Studebaker - 0 Sergio Kindle (Ravens) - 0 Ricky Sapp (Eagles) - 0 Scrub - 15 ILB Derrick Johnson - 16 Demorrio Williams - 0 Corey Mays - 0 Scrub - 16 DE Glenn Dorsey - 16 Wallace Gilberry - 2 Bobby Greenwood - 0 Scrub - 14 NT Ron Edwards - 15 Terrence Cody (Ravens) - 1 Cam Thomas (Chargers) - 0 Dion Gales - 0 |
Here's my team. Let's see how we stack up.
QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) - 16/16 (QB rating of 75.3) Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) - 0/10 Brodie Croyle - 0/1 I'm okay at QB for the long term, though in the short term my young QBs aren't going to carry the team. Not sure if we're better than the real Chiefs in 2010 or not, but I like our future. HB Jamaal Charles 6/6 (1,467 yards, 6.4 ypc) Jones, Thomas 10/10 (896 yards, 3.7 ypc) C.J. Spiller. (Bills) 0/1 (He's my kick returner - 23.0 per KR, 14.6 per PR) Jackie Battle - 0/0 Charles and Jones are getting it done, meaning that we're primarily a running team this year. I realize that Spiller didn't make a big splash as a rookie, but he was a good returner for us and I think brings versatility. He'll be an asset in the long run. Spiller makes us stronger than the real Chiefs. FB Tim Castille, FB 4/4 (We'll start Pope for 6 games, and start Thomas Jones at FB for 6 games.) At fullback, we're about like the Chiefs were, but without Cox, so I'm installing Jones in there sometimes. I think it'll work. We're weaker than the real Chiefs here. WR Dwayne Bowe - 16/16 (1,162 yds, 16.1 ypr) Chris Chambers, WR - 15/7 (213 yds, 9.7 ypr) - Chambers will have to step up and start 15 games) Derrick Williams (Lions) - 1/1 (30 yds, 10.0 ypr) 11 Horne, Jeremy - 0/0 Okay, our receivers were a disaster, but so were the real Chiefs receivers. We're crippling by this year, and relying on our good TE to be a #2 receiver. We're weaker than the real Chiefs here. TE Tony Gonzalez (Falcons) - 16/16 (656 yds, 9.4 ypr) Leonard Pope, TE- 6/6 as a blocker/fullback I love Moeaki, but Gonzalez is the man, despite a statistical down year. We're strong here. T Branden Albert - 15/15 Ryan O'Callaghan - 1/1 Alex Boone (49ers) - 0/0 Having cut Richardson, we're going to rely on good ol' Wade Smith to fill in at tackle along with Albert. We've drafted both Boone and Bruce Campbell, but Boone's not ready yet and Campbell has been moved to guard. We're weaker than the real Chiefs G Brian Waters - 16/16 Lilja, Ryan - 15/15 Wade Smith - 16/1 (starting at tackle) Bruce Campbell (Raiders) - 0/0 Duke Robinson (Panthers) - 0/0 We've got good Chiefs guards here, and had Smith as a backup until we needed him at tackle. Campbell appeared in 10 games and has hope, and we keep hoping that Robinson won't be a total bust since he was in IR all year. I think we were stronger here than the real Chiefs. C Wiegmann, Casey - 16/16 We were solid here, though we're a bit long in the tooth. Weaker than the real Chiefs since we had no backup (other than the versatile Wade Smith). K (Scrub) - 16/16 I really regret not drafting Succop. We haven't been able to find a kicker since then. P Dustin Colquitt - 16/16 Colquitt. Love Colquitt. FS Lewis, Kendrick - 10/10 - 30t, 3int, 1ff Jarrad Page 6/1 - 12t, 2int, 0ff We don't have McGraw, but we kept Page and presumably signed him. I think we're actually slightly better than the real Chiefs here. SS Reshad Jones (Dolphins) - 16/2 - 21t, 1int, 0ff We drafted Spiller instead of Berry, so I hope he works out. Without Berry, we're using rookie Reshad Jones as our strong safety and forcing him into a starting role. CB Brandon Flowers 15/15 - 65t, 2int, 1ff Brandon Carr 16/16 - 57t, 1int, 0ff D.J. Moore (Bears) 1/0 42t, 4int, 1ff Travis Daniels, CB - 0/0 I think we're pretty strong here, even without Arenas. D.J. Moore did fine as a nickel and Daniels was our dime. We're probably almost as good as the real Chiefs. OLB Rey Maualuga (Bengals) - 15/15 (75t, 1s, 2i, 0ff) Dekoda Watson (Buccaneers) - 16/1 (30t, 0s, 0i, 0ff) Andy Studebaker - 1/0 (28t, 2.5s, 0i, 0ff) Note that we're running a 4-3, so Hali is on the line. At OLB we've got Maualuga, who's solid, and we pressed promising rookie Dekoda Watson into a starting role. Studebaker comes in on passing downs. We're weaker than the real Chiefs here. ILB Derrick Johnson 16/16 (121t, 1s, 1i, 4ff) Demorrio Williams 0/0 Johnson was a rock for me, and Williams is a capable backup. We cut Belcher, which was a mistake, so we're weaker than the real Chiefs. DE Tamba Hali 16/16 (52t, 14.5s, 0i, 4ff) Glenn Dorsey - 16/16 (69t, 2s, 0i, 0ff) starting 5 games at DT Wallace Gilberry 5/2 (23t, 7s, 0i, 2ff) DE Alex Carrington (Bills) 0/0 I think we're strong at DE, with a lot of depth. Hali is going to line up at RE in a pass rush role, and on the left side we'll have a combination of Dorsey (moving around on the line) and Gilberry, with Carrington as a backup. DT Ron Edwards - 15/15 (28t, 2s, 0i, 0ff) Smith, Shaun - 10/10 (57t, 1s, 0i, 0ff) Myron Pryor (Patriots) 2/2 (12t, 0.5s, 0i, 0ff) We're strong here. We've got Edwards and Smith, with Pryor backing them up, and due to Gilberry's strong performance we were able to move Dorsey inside for 5 starts. Overall, I think my offense would be equivalent to, or maybe slightly better than, that of the real Chiefs, depending on how you would compare Sanchez to Cassel, Gonzalez to Moeaki, and Wade Smith to Barry Richardson. We also add Spiller. On defense, we're not as far along as the current Chiefs. Our d-line has a bit more depth, and our linebacker corps adds Maualuga, which is a plus. Our safeties are quite a bit weaker, though. Without Succop, our kicking game isn't as good. Overall, I don't think we would've had as good a record as the current Chiefs, but my hope is that I'm developing a strong offensive backfield. |
Here's my revised final roster w/ starts:
QB Matt Cassel - 15/15 Brodie Croyle - 1/1 I'm comfortable with my QB situation for now. Obviously I need a better backup, if not a new starter. ------------------------------------------------- RB Jamaal Charles - 6/6 Thomas Jones - 10/10 Jackie Battle I can't complain about my RBs this year, but Thomas Jones seemed to hit a wall so I'll probably be looking for a compliment to JC this off season. FB Tim Castille - 4/4 Blah. My team mostly used a 3 WR, 1 RB set, I guess. ------------------------------------------------- WR Dwayne Bowe - 16/16 Chris Chambers - 7/13 Dexter McCluster - 7/11 David Reed (Ravens) - 0/8 Jeremy Horne And the 3 WRs usually weren't all that impressive. TE Leonard Pope - 6 Scrub - 10 Brad Cottam (IR) I still like Brad Cottam, but he didn't do me a damn bit of good on IR this year. I hope Scrub can run block. ------------------------------------------------- T Branden Albert - 15/15 Ryan O'Callaghan - 1/1 Brian Waters - 16/16 G Ryan Lilja - 15/15 Jon Asamoah - 1/15 Kraig Urbik (Bills) - 2/2 C Rudy Niswanger - 0/6 Matt Tennant (Saints) - 0/10 My offensive line was in tough shape this season. I had to use Brian Waters at Tackle for the whole campaign. He played 15 games at RT and one over at LT when Albert was dinged up. I had to press rookies Asamoah and Tennant into service earlier than I'd have liked. I have hope that the two of them and Kraig Urbik will develop into a solid interior line in future years. ------------------------------------------------- K Ryan Succop - 16 P Dustin Colquitt - 16 ------------------------------------------------- FS Kendrick Lewis - 10/10 Jarrad Page (Patriots) - 1/6 SS Eric Berry - 16/16 CB Brandon Flowers - 15/15 Brandon Carr - 16/16 Alterraun Verner (Titans) - 12/1 My secondary is the strength of my team. Verner as nickleback is a luxury compared to my lack of depth everywhere else. I even had thoughts of trying Brandon Carr at FS while Kendrick Lewis was out. ------------------------------------------------- OLB Tamba Hali - 16/16 Mike Vrabel - 16/16 Andy Studebaker ILB Derrick Johnson - 16/16 Sean Lee (Cowboys) - 0/14 Corey Mays - 0/2 Demorrio Williams Lee showed signs of being a pretty decent player this year. Whether he and Johnson are the final answer at ILB for us is an open question. I'll need a replacement for Vrabel this offseason one way or another. ------------------------------------------------- DE Glenn Dorsey - 16/16 Tyson Jackson - 3/3 Shaun Smith - 10/13 Wallace Gilberry DT Ron Edwards - 15/16 Tank Tyler (Panthers) Anthony Toribio Tank Tyler was a big disappointment, but this group of linemen did better than I originally expected. |
Ok I'll have mine tomorrow

I wish I had stuck to this one since AR#3 went tits up

My team there looks pretty decent (just looked at it) and I had a few extra draft picks coming as well in the rookie draft, if you get it back going, I'm still game for it.

I guess we need to come up with a draft order, too. Might just make it random. |

rainman if you can figure out who has what pick i'm game as well
|
Okay, starting with the formatted rosters.
First number is the number of starts on your team, 2nd number is NFL starts, and 3rd number is NFL appearances. Adam, here's what I've got for you. Based on the revised starting rules, my questions are... At tight end, you have to start Pope in 6 and O'Connell in 2 given their starting stats, so you need to cover 8 more games between them. Pope had 16 appearances, O'Connell 13, and Coffman 6, so if you take out their starts Pope can cover 10 add'l starts, O'Connell 11, or Coffman 6. Take your pick. Right now you've got a scrub in at 6 games at FB. You've got enough tight end starts that you could start one of them for those six games if you want. O'Callaghan had 11 appearances so I gave you all 11. I then gave you 5 from "scrub" but you can move someone else over if you want. Jarrad Page only appeared in 10 games so you've got a scrub for 6. You can move Cox over if you want, assuming that this was before he was arrested. I think your WRs are as you proposed. I can't recall as I'm typing this. Horne had 3 appearances and Briscoe had 2, while Chambers had 13, so I gave you all of Chambers' and 3 of Horne's. Let me know if you want to change. I think all of your others are as you initially proposed. QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) - 16/16/16 Brodie Croyle - 0/1/16 HB Jamaal Charles - 6/6/16 Thomas Jones - 10/10/16 Jackie Battle - 0/0/16 FB Tim Castille, FB 10/4/10 Scrub - 6/0 WR Dwayne Bowe - 16/16/16 Chris Chambers, WR - 13/7/13 Jeremy Horne - 3/0/3 Dezmon Briscoe (Buccaneers) - 0/0/2 TE Leonard Pope - 8/6/16 Chase Coffman (Bengals) - 6/0/6 Jake O'Connell - 2/0/13 OT Branden Albert - 15/15/15 Ryan O'Callaghan - 11/1/11 Scrub - 6/0 Selvish Capers (Redskins) - 0/0/0 G Brian Waters - 16/16/16 Lilja, Ryan - 15/15/15 Jon Asamoah - 1/1/16 C Rudy Niswanger - 16/0/16 Matt Tennant (Saints) - 0/0/16 K Ryan Succop - 16/16/16 P Dustin Colquitt - 16/16/16 FS Jarrad Page (Patriots) - 10/1/10 Scrub - 6/0 SS Eric Berry - 16/16/16 CB Brandon Flowers - 15/15/15 Brandon Carr - 16/16/16 Perrish Cox (Broncos) - 1/9/15 OLB Tamba Hali - 16/16/16 Andy Studebaker - 15/0/16 Clint Sintim (Giants) - 1/1/13 Sergio Kindle (Ravens) - 0/0/0 Ricky Sapp (Eagles) - 0/0/0 ILB Derrick Johnson - 16/16/16 Demorrio Williams - 16/0/16 Corey Mays - 0/0/16 DE Glenn Dorsey - 16/16/16 Wallace Gilberry 16/2/16 Bobby Greenwood - 0/0/0 DT Ron Edwards - 15/15/15 Terrence Cody (Ravens) - 1/1/13 Cam Thomas (Chargers) - 0/0/6 Dion Gales - 0/0/3 |
First number is the number of starts on your team, 2nd number is NFL starts, and 3rd number is NFL appearances.
Okay, cachiefsfan, here's what I've got for you. My questions are: Croyle or Skelton for the one start that Cassel missed? You want to move Wade Smith or Asamoah over to tackle to cover those scrub starts? You've got enough appearances to do so. You can start Belcher all 16 games at ILB or give Spikes up to 8. Are you doing the Spikes thing and then Belcher gets the other 8 starts? (Spikes can't start all 16 because he has only 8 starts and you have to use up Belcher's starts before you can start Spikes again. Your NT is such that you only have 9 starts from Thomas and Gales. However, you've got enough appearances for Gilberry that you could move Shaun Smith or Dorsey inside for a lot of starts. Maybe something like...16 DE for Dorsey, 16 DE for Gilberry, 10 NT for Smith, and 6 NT for Thomas? It'd be better than the scrub. Let me know. QB Matt Cassel - 15/15/15 Brodie Croyle - 1/1/16 John Skelton - 0/4/5 HB Jamaal Charles - 6/6/16 Thomas Jones - 10/10/16 FB Mike Cox - 16/2/16 WR Dwayne Bowe - 16/16/16 Michael Crabtree (49ers) - 15/15/16 Verran Tucker - 1/2/11 TE Leonard Pope - 16/6/16 Brad Cottam 0/0/0 OT Branden Albert - 15/15/15 Ryan O'Callaghan - 11/1/11 Scrub - 5/0 Andrew Gardner - 0/0/0 G Brian Waters - 16/16/16 Wade Smith - 16/1/16 Jon Asamoah - 0/1/16 C Wiegmann, Casey - 16/16/16 Matt Tennant (Saints) - 0/0/16 K Ryan Succop - 16/16/16 P Dustin Colquitt - 16/16/16 FS John Mcgraw - 15/5/15 Kam Chancellor (Seahawks) - 1/0/16 SS Eric Berry - 16/16/16 CB Brandon Flowers - 15/15/15 Brandon Carr - 16/16/16 Javier Arenas - 1/0/16 Maurice Leggett - 0/0/0 OLB Tamba Hali - 16/16/16 Mike Vrabel - 16/16/16 Andy Studebaker - 0/0/16 Cameron Sheffield - 0/0/0 ILB Derrick Johnson - 16/16/16 Brandon Spikes (Patriots) - 8/8 Jovan Belcher - 8/16/16 Corey Greenwood - 0/0/16 DE Glenn Dorsey - 16/16/16 Smith, Shaun - 10/10/16 Wallace Gilberry 6/2/16 George Selvie - 0/0/0 DT Cam Thomas (Chargers) - 6/0/6 Dion Gales - 3/0/3 Scrub - 7/0 |
patteeu, here's what I've got for you.
First number is the number of starts on your team, 2nd number is NFL starts, and 3rd number is NFL appearances. My questions are: You initially talked about going 3 WRs, and I wasn't sure if that was choice or necessity. I bumped up Pope to his max of 16 and Castille to his max of 10, which meant that you had to make up 6 other starts from your WR corps. Since you had more than that, I chopped out some of the starts. Let me know if that's a reasonable assumption or if you'd rather see those WRs get more starts. You can start O'Callaghan up to 11 games if you like, which would mean only 6 games for Waters at tackle if you want to give him some games at guard. Or you can keep it like it is. You've got a lot of extra capacity at DE if you wanted one of those guys to move inside for a game instead of Toribio (or even some of Edwards' starts). Let me know. QB Matt Cassel - 15/15/15 Brodie Croyle - 1/1/16 HB Jamaal Charles - 6/6/16 Thomas Jones - 10/10/16 Jackie Battle - 0/0/16 FB Tim Castille, FB 10/4/10 WR Dwayne Bowe - 16/16/16 Chris Chambers - 11/7/13 Dexter McCluster - 11/7/11 David Reed (Ravens) - 0/0/13 Jeremy Horne - 0/0/3 TE Leonard Pope - 16/6/16 Brad Cottam 0/0/0 OT Branden Albert - 15/15/15 Ryan O'Callaghan - 1/1/11 Brian Waters - 16/16/16 (at T) G Lilja, Ryan - 15/15/15 Jon Asamoah - 15/1/16 Kraig Urbik (Bills) - 2/2/10 C Rudy Niswanger - 16/0/16 Matt Tennant (Saints) - 0/0/16 K Ryan Succop - 16/16/16 P Dustin Colquitt - 16/16/16 FS Kendrick Lewis - 10/10/10 Jarrad Page (Patriots) 6/1/10 SS Eric Berry - 16/16/16 CB Brandon Flowers - 15/15/15 Brandon Carr - 16/16/16 Alterraun Verner (Titans) - 1/12/16 OLB Tamba Hali - 16/16/16 Mike Vrabel - 16/16/16 Andy Studebaker - 0/0/16 ILB Derrick Johnson - 16/16/16 Sean Lee (Cowboys) - 14/0/14 Corey Mays - 2/0/16 Demorrio Williams - 0/0/16 DE Glenn Dorsey - 16/16/16 Tyson Jackson - 3/3/12 Smith, Shaun - 13/10/16 Wallace Gilberry 0/2/16 DT Ron Edwards - 15/15/15 Anthony Toribio - 1/0/5 Tank Tyler (Panthers) - 0/0/0 |
And here's where I stand. Note that I include a few notes where I've got people making starts at more than one position.
I'm going with a 4-3, so I have 32 DT starts and 16 ILB starts, which is different than everybody else. First number is the number of starts on my team, 2nd number is NFL starts, and 3rd number is NFL appearances. Okay, so this system makes a lot of sense. At the end of the year, you note the number of NFL starts and NFL games the player appeared in (2nd and 3rd numbers after each player). In the first number, you then define how many starts they made for you.
If you don't have enough starts at a position, you can start a player up to the number of games they appeared in. But you can't start using non-starts unless you've used up all of your starts at that position. So for example if you have the following players at a position: Player A: 10 starts, 10 games Player B: 3 starts, 16 games Player C: 0 starts, 5 games Player D: 0 starts, 2 games You have to use the 13 starts first, and then you can use anyone else for the next 3 as long as you aren't using them for more games than they appeared in. So in the above example, you know you have 10 starts for Player A, and you can't use him any more 3 starts for Player B, and you can give him up to 13 more starts. (You only need 3, but you could also use him at another position if he can keep you from using a scrub there.) 0 starts for Player C, and you can use him for up to 5 more starts. 0 starts for Player D, and you can give him 2 starts but no more. You would only use a scrub if you didn't have enough game appearances to cover the starting spots. For example if you had Player A: 6 starts, 6 games Player B: 3 starts, 6 games Player C: 0 starts, 1 game Player D: 0 starts, 1 game You'd have all players making their maximum starts (6, 6, 1, 1) and you'd have to use a scrub for the last two games, or give the starts to someone else at another position. The bottom line rules are this: No player can start more games than he appeared in. You have to use all your starts at a position before you can start counting appearances as starts. Using the codes in the posts below, the rightmost number is the number of games appeared, so you can never start the player more than that number. Sound good? This is easy to work with and only requires looking up the games started and games played at the end of the season. Not that much work. |
I like the new system. Makes more sense. Although I question some of your choices with giving Thomas Jones the nod as "starter" just because he technically was the first player on the field. I would give Jamaal Charles the max allowable starts, and let the voters base it on that. Hell with Haley's bizarre choices. He knows who his "money" player is.

Okay, everyone. You can add the following mid-season pickups to your training camp roster.
LB Anderson, Charlie LB Bakhtiari, Eric LB Cole, Justin WR Curtis, Kevin LB Johnson, Micah QB Palko, Tyler TE Slate, Cody NT Toribio, Anthony LB Simoneau, Mark WR Williams, Chandler These guys all came aboard during the season, right? If not, let me know. |
So I'll have my picks tomorrow
|
Okay, everyone who's playing can make their drafts now.
|
2011 draft picks
1. Mark Ingram rb alabama 2. Dontay. Moch. OLB. Nevada 3. Leonard Hankerson WR. Miami 3. Allen. Bailey. DE. Miami 4. Owen Marecic. FB. Stanford 5. Ricky Stanzi. QB. Iowa 5. Ahmad. Black. S. Florida 6. Jerrel Powe NT Mississippi 7. Lee Ziemba. OT. Auburn |
Picking up someone to compete with Charles at RB, eh?
How did we get the extra 3rd and 5th again? I don't recall. |
Rainman Ingram is the replacement to Thomas jones one two punch of Ingram and Charles.
We got the extra fifth for Alex Magee to bucs The extra third happened when we traded down from 21 to 27 that became 26. unlike the chiefs I'm weak at TE and safety because I didn't draft moeaki and Lewis |
Hmm. None of us had Magee on our roster at the time of the trade, but then again we're still building our unique rosters and Magee was a scrub. Let's make the call that everyone gets the 5th-round pick. Once we have full rosters we won't get the picks if a player who is traded is not on our own roster, or we'll have to come up with some sort of alternate system such as trading the player who is in the same spot on the depth chart.

First off, I'll accept the trade down of our 1st round pick to get the first and the third, like the Chiefs did.
I'm also going to trade down on my second third-round pick (86th pick) with the Rams. It's worth 160 draft points, so if I get only 65 percent of the value, that's 104 points. I'll trade it to the Rams for their 112th pick (70 points) and their 158th pick (29.2 points) and their 228th pick (<3 points). My draft: 1 26th pick DE Da'Quan Bowers (Buccaneers) 2 55th pick C Rodney Hudson (Chiefs) 3 70th pick WR Leonard Hankerson (Redskins) 4 112th pick WR Greg Salas (Rams) 4 118th pick K Alex Henery (Eagles) 5 135th pick SS Shiloh Keo (Texans) 5 140th pick OT Jason Pinkston (Browns) 5 158th pick OLB Chris Carter (Steelers) 6 199th pick OLB Bruce Miller (49ers) 7 223rd pick G Lee Ziemba (Panthers) 7 228th pick DT Lawrence Guy (Packers) Here's my training camp roster so far. I wanted to take Bruce Carter at OLB, but couldn't pass up on Bowers. And then I was able to get Bruce Miller and Chris Carter, so I think I have the whole Bruce Carter thing covered anyway.

Since we are on the eve of camp I am just going to say that I will take the Chiefs draft exactly as Pioli did it this year.
|
So are we doing this again this year?
|
So are we allowed to take people that were dropped from Thier teams??

Uh-oh. I forgot to do my roster cuts to get to 53 people. I only have to cut four guys.

We never really followed up on this. Would be fun to piece back together and keep going since the start aligns perfectly with Pioli's beginning. Everybody up for putting their draft together this year? If we miss this it's over.

Question: Can you please remind me what options do we have this year regarding free agents that walk? I'm mainly thinking about Brandon Carr and Wallace Gilberry. I think Carr is the first real star we have let walk since Pioli's reign began.
I've been trying to get my roster organized again. My big misses so far have been Kendrick Lewis and Tony Moeaki. I know there are other players who I'll add from the existing Chiefs roster this year provided they aren't people I opted not to draft, but below is what it looks like. QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) Brady Quinn Ricky Stanzi HB Jamaal Charles Peyton Hillis FB Tim Castille Shane Bannon WR Dwayne Bowe Steve Breaston Jonathan Baldwin Dezmon Briscoe (Buccaneers) TE Kevin Boss Chase Coffman (Bucs) Jake O'Connell OT Branden Albert Eric Winston Selvish Capers (Giants) G Lilja, Ryan Jon Asamoah Rodney Hudson C Matt Tennant (Saints) K Ryan Succop P Dustin Colquitt S Eric Berry CB Brandon Flowers Brandon Carr Perrish Cox (49ers) Stanford Routt Jalil Brown OLB Tamba Hali Justin Houston Clint Sintim (Giants) Sergio Kindle (Ravens) Ricky Sapp (Jets) ILB Derrick Johnson Jovan Belcher DE Glenn Dorsey Allen Bailey Amon Gordon Wallace Gilberry NT Terrence Cody (Ravens) Cam Thomas (Chargers) Jerrell Powe |

Now, I've got to figure out my draft. I keep investing picks in QBs and it's not getting me anywhere. |
My team needs are:
Upgrade at QB Depth at HB Desperate need at WR Heir at TE, and depth Probably RT Upgrade FS Upgrade SS Desperate need at OLB Possible need at DE Moderate need at DT My team is a mess. This is harder than it looks. |
Free agent pickups that you can add to your roster:
Brandon Bair - DE Mikail Baker - DB Josh Bellamy - WR Tim Biere - TE Kevin Boss - TE Steve Breaston - WR Rob Bruggeman - C Caleb Campbell - LB Justin Cheadle - OL Shaun Draughn - HB Nate Eachus - RB Jean Fanor - DB Chandler Fenner - DB Taylor Gentry - FB Amon Gordon - DT Tysyn Hartman - DB Dexter Heyman - LB Peyton Hillis - FB Cam Holland - OL Ethan Johnson - DE Brandon Kinnie - WR Steve Maneri - TE Zeke Markshausen - WR Kyle McCarthy - S David Mims - OT Jamar Newsome - WR Terrance Parks - DB Luke Patterson - DL Jacques Reeves - DB Stanford Routt - CB Brandon Siler - ILB Matt Szymanski - K Neiko Thorpe - DB Eric Winston - RT You can also add anyone else who gets signed in camp. If they join the Chiefs as a free agent, they're on your training camp roster as well. If they make trades, you choose to accept or reject the trade. |
My initial training camp roster is shown below.
Adding in the free agents makes my picture look much better. Now my team needs are: Upgrade at QB (despite heavy investment - sigh) Depth/star at WR Heir at TE Upgrade FS Upgrade SS Desperate need at OLB Possible need at DE QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) Brodie Croyle Tyler Palko HB Jamaal Charles C.J. Spiller. Okay, people, it's draft time.
You get your seven picks below, and IF you still have Jarrad Page you can trade him for the 238th pick and get that pick in the 7th round. Otherwise, you don't get that pick. Round Pick In Round Total Selection 1 11 11 2 12 44 3 11 74 4 12 107 5 11 146 6 12 182 7 11 218 7 31 238 if you trade away Jarrad Page. |
Okay, here's our draft
Round 1 - WR Kendall Wright (Titans -20th pick) Wanted to go DE with Coples, Ingram, or Mercilus, but the last two will be OLBs and Wright was too good a value. While we're building depth at WR with Breaston, Leonard Hankerson, and Greg Salas, Wright could come in and start. Also considered DT Michael Brockers. Round 2 - Zach Brown (Titans - 52nd pick) I guess we liked the Titans' draft. We're desperate at OLB, and Brown was a good value who kept us from drafting Ingram or Mercilus earlier. Lots of good potential picks as we considered DTs Devon Still and Jerel Worthy, OLB Lavonte David, and DE Vinny Curry. Round 3 - QB Russell Wilson (Seahawks - 75th pick) Easy choice here as we continue our strategy of drafting an early QB every year until we find one. (Sanchez and Clausen haven't yet proven themselves for us.) If Wilson wasn't available we would've gone with (in order): DT Mike Martin, WR Mohammad Sanu, OLB Nigel Bradham, WR Chris Givens, or DE Jake Bequette. Taking a WR here would've probably pushed our 1st round pick to Coples. Round 4 - OLB Ronnell Lewis (Lions - 125th pick) Too much value here, and our OLBs are really weak. More competition to go with Zach Brown. Also considered DE Jared Crick very strongly, and pondered ILB James-Michael Johnson and RB Chris Rainey even though we don't need help at those positions. Round 5 - DE Jonathan Massaquoi (Falcons - 164th pick) Definitely need help at DE and he looked like good value. Also considered RBs Chris Rainey and Cyrus Gray, and FS Markelle Martin. Round 6 - SS Charles Mitchell (Falcons - 192nd pick) Strongly considered FS Markelle Martin, but we need a SS and Mitchell looks promising. Also considered CB Alphonso Dennard. Round 7 - CB Alphonso Dennard (Patriots - 224th pick) We need depth at CB and he seemed like a steal. Apparently fell due to some minor legal problems. Debated between him and DE Cam Johnson, as well as WR Junior Hemingway. Round 7 (obtained by accepting the trade of Jarrad Page, who was still on our roster, for this pick) - WR Junior Hemingway (Chiefs - 238th pick) Maybe some WR depth and a deep threat. Wanted Cam Johnson, but he went one pick before this. Also debated on FS Antonio Allen and undrafted free agent Ryan Steed. |
My initial training camp depth chart is as follows:
QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) Russell Wilson (Seahawks) Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) Tyler Palko Brodie Croyle I need someone to step up here. HB Jamaal Charles C.J. Spiller. (Bills) Shaun Draughn Nate Eachus Jackie Battle Thomas Jones I like this situation with two speed merchants on top of the chart. FB Peyton Hillis Tim Castille Taylor Gentry Hillis will be fine. WR Dwayne Bowe Kendall Wright (Titans) Steve Breaston - WR Greg Salas (Rams) Leonard Hankerson (Redskins) Jeremy Horne Junior Hemingway (Chiefs) Derrick Williams (Lions) Brandon Kinnie - WR Zeke Markshausen - WR Jamar Newsome - WR Josh Bellamy - WR Chris Chambers Kevin Curtis Building some good depth here. I like how this unit is coming together. TE Tony Gonzalez (Falcons) Kevin Boss - TE Leonard Pope Steve Maneri - TE Tim Biere - TE Set here with Tony and great depth. OT Branden Albert Eric Winston - RT Bruce Campbell (Raiders) Alex Boone (49ers) Lee Ziemba (Panthers) David Mims - OT Ryan O'Callaghan Our free agent tackle helped a lot. We have lots of young depth. G Brian Waters Lilja, Ryan Jason Pinkston (Browns) Wade Smith Duke Robinson (Panthers) Justin Cheadle - OL Cam Holland - OL Looking good here with three legitimate starters plus versatile Wade Smith. C Rodney Hudson (Chiefs) Wiegmann, Casey Rob Bruggeman Looking good here as long as Hudson remains healthy. Wiegman may be retiring, which would be a loss. K Alex Henery (Eagles) Matt Szymanski - K Great shape here. P Dustin Colquitt Great shape here. FS Kendrick Lewis Kyle McCarthy Really needed to upgrade here, but couldn't find a place to do it in the draft. SS Reshad Jones (Dolphins) Charles Mitchell (Falcons) Shiloh Keo (Texans) I need Mitchell to step up, or maybe Jones. CB Brandon Flowers Stanford Routt - CB D.J. Moore (Bears) Travis Daniels Jacques Reeves - DB Alphonso Dennard (Jets) Mikail Baker - DB Tysyn Hartman - DB Jean Fanor - DB Terrance Parks - DB Chandler Fenner - DB Neiko Thorpe - DB Pretty deep. No big-name all-stars, but good unit. OLB Rey Maualuga (Bengals) Zach Brown (Titans) Ronnell Lewis (Lions) Dekoda Watson (Buccaneers) Andy Studebaker Chris Carter (Steelers) Bruce Miller (49ers) Caleb Campbell - LB Dexter Heyman - LB Charlie Anderson Eric Bakhtiari Justin Cole Major talent infusion here since we weren't very good last year in this area. I think we have the potential for a great unit if the rookies work out. ILB Derrick Johnson Brandon Siler - ILB Demorrio Williams No changes here, and none needed. DE Tamba Hali Da'Quan Bowers (Buccaneers) - Injured Alex Carrington (Bills) Jonathan Massaquoi (Falcons) Luke Patterson - DL Ethan Johnson - DE Wallace Gilberry Losing Bowers hurts. Hali is fine on the left and we can put Carrington on the right. Let's hope the rookie steps it up. DT Glenn Dorsey Amon Gordon Smith, Shaun Myron Pryor (Patriots) Anthony Toribio Lawrence Guy (Packers) Ron Edwards Didn't upgrade the talent here. We're deep, but not great. Dorsey is a big help. |

I know I am late on this, so sorry. I promise what has happened so far has not colored or changed one pic. Tonight all I did was figure out a few late rounders, and did not investigate them beyond the highlights that were available on the NFL's 2012 draft site. I have watched zero pre-season games (not even the Chiefs), and been only a bit aware of what's gone on at all due mainly to a health crisis with my dad. The one thing I do know thanks to this site is that DeCastro has disappointed so far, but he was the first rounder I had been planning on so making myself stick with it.
So here goes: My Draft: 1. G David DeCastro (Steelers) 2. QB Brock Osweiler (Broncos) 3. OT Donald Stephenson 4. NT Alameda Ta'amu (Steelers) 5. S George Iloka (Bengals) 6. WR B.J.
