One year of Trey is going to cost $23 million against the cap.

That's $21.5 million more than we paid him last year.

It's going to hamper action in FA unless they've just decided to sit this FA period out. That said, they've got several of their OWN FA's they have to make decisions on.

Hamstringing yourself with very little chance now at adequately addressing left tackle and paying almost $90 million in 2025 on an OL that looked like the worst in the league in the Super Bowl sounds like brilliant team building strategy

Agreed. Hard to argue with the result. But one of the downsides of trying to fill every single role on both sides of the ball is that you miss opportunities to plug low positional value players with cheap but quality replacements. I’d say the same for ILB. And ultimately RB. I’d be fine if these were examples of 3 positions where we find draft value and save us a boatload of cash

What? No, that's ****ing lunacy. 80 million in cap eaten up by 3 OL that would all be gone after the 2025 season.

A second round pick should do it I think.

Wouldn't surprise me if this is a result of them thinking Kingsley is just a total bust.

Yet another wasted second round pick! Hooray!

That's a lot of moolah for the IOL. Might have to break out the void year game.

What is the plan at left tackle?

Maybe Smith's arms will grow.

ThrobProng 02-27-2025 01:53 PM

Can this piece of shit play left tackle?

Id rather go back in time and finding a young replacement who we are confident could replace him. But barring that, I am a big subscriber that if the choice is to overpay for the rights to cut bait early versus paying a more modest but huge contract to a guy you may not necessarily need? Yeah I’m ok with overpaying. We can find creative ways to move other people’s money around. Mahomes is the obvious target.

Draft classes of 2023 and 2024 are looking pretty brutal right now. Veach absolutely has to get his shit together on that front or the window starts narrowing real quick.

Yo Murphy. 02-27-2025 01:55 PM

Insert Larry David vacillating gif.

Are teams really dying to throw big money at a FA Guard?

I mean which contending team needs a guard as their final piece and can throw that kind of money around? Conversely, which rebuilding team should blow that kind of money on a position that isn't necessary for rebuilding?

Bad teams sure, like Chicago probably would, but they aren't gonna move picks to do it.

Chiefs second round picks since 2019:

Hardman
Thornhill
Willie Gay
Nick Bolton
Creed Humphrey
Skyy Moore
Bryan Cook
Rashee Rice
Kingsley Suamataia

Probably too early to say with Kingsley, but I see one bad pick among the rest (Skyy Moore). The rest were at least competent NFL players who contributed.

That’s a pretty good batting average in the second round.
