They were the Tennessee Oilers for 5 mins before becoming the Titans.

It's pretty cringe to see Tennessee have the rights to the Oilers or wearing the uniforms of Houston's team. It would be like if the OKC Thunder wore Supersonic throwbacks.

Yeah..... No1curr

Not sure, but they have a one-eyed sloth for a HC.

I mean they were literally the Tennessee Oilers. What's the problem? They aren't just taking the name and uniform from where they were last and pretending it's their throwback. ESPECIALLY if it's very specific to that area, or I don't know... state! What kind of dumbass franchise would do something like that?!?

Is it cringe when the Chiefs wear helmets with the state of Texas on them?

These uniforms are sick and I'm glad to see them again

Not really.

It is the same franchise. They are displaying their history.

I do wish the NFL could have worked out a deal where the Titans were treated as an expansion franchise and the Oilers colors stayed in Houston but they didn't.

Texans is not nearly as good.

How's that any different than the Chiefs wearing Dallas Texans helmets?

Or the Browns wearing anything that resembles the first iteration of the team before they moved to Baltimore?

It is not. The Dallas Texans are the Chiefs. Different cities but same franchise. That is what matters: not the name, but the franchise.

One note: the Ravens are considered a separate franchise by the NFL. The Browns were considered inactive and then resumed operations. So the Browns didn't move to Baltimore. The franchise simply went inactive for several seasons.

Big fan of those old school uniforms. Reminds me of the Warren Moon days. plus they look better than the Titans uniforms.

Hence why I brought up the Browns as they are considered the same team as the current iteration and the Ravens are viewed as an expansion team.

Technically not different, but everybody thinks of Houston when they see those jerseys because the Oilers played in Houston for 37 years and 2 in Tennessee(Memphis) before the became the Titans. The Texans played in Dallas for 3 seasons and left after the Cowboys arrived and have played in KC for the last 60 years.

Was always a big fan the uniforms, but I can't look at them without my brain saying Houston Oilers.

That is on me, friend. I misread your comment. Tried to multitask. :D

Even then the Titans still wore the Oilers jersey when they initially moved to TN.

The Avalanches wore Nordiques throwbacks the past year or 2 in the NHL even though they were never the Nordiques in Denver.

The only sports franchise I know that still owns the prior iteration of their team's history after relocation and were brought into the league as another team, aside from the Browns, are the Charlotte Hornets (their history before relocating to New Orleans is still theirs, and the Pelicans are retroactively considered an expansion team).

Thunder still technically have the Sonics history but don't recognize it. Winnipeg Jets have the Thrasher's history, but don't recognize it, and the Coyotes have the first version of the Jets history.

----------------

I think Tennessee owns the Oilers logo/name

And Houston had to get permission to use the Texans from the Hunt family.

Chiefs should get a pick every year for the name.

Dress like the Oilers, get beat like the Oilers.
