Teams hit by the injury bug would be affected even more because another team could realistically dress 5-7 more guys.

But when the NFL has to pass rule exceptions like the one so teams carry 8 offensive linemen and 3 QBs, something is wrong with your rule.

It costs nothing extra for the team. The player has practiced and been with the team.

Also, the use of practice squad players for game day rosters changed what players are eligible on the field.

It's not really a big deal, it just seems that it is an antiquated NFL rule.

I don't think it'll ever go away either, I wouldn't be surprised if we get rosters expanded to 60 and then somehow you can dress 55 guys.

I feel like whenever there's a rule that doesn't make sense it inevitably ends up that owners are trying to save a couple bucks

That could be, but not sure where that savings would happen.

The active player list is created just a short time before game. Anybody that is healthy and could possibly play, will be making team trips. When a team uses a PS player for a game, they have to give that player an additional game check so they would probably prefer playing players from their 53-man roster.

I think the Chiefs do an excellent job of managing their game day roster so advantage Chiefs.

I'll shut up!

I guess this means all teams will carry 3 QB's this year.

Are really going to trust a guy without a fox tail to protect Mahomes?

Two important points for Emergency QB use -
1. Emergency QB, the first two must be physically unable to play.
2. Emergency QB must be on teams’ active rosters, not PS.

See below for more detail -

Quote:

For a team to be able to use its emergency quarterback, the first two must be physically unable to play. Teams will not be able to stash a third quarterback on their roster and turn to him in a benching scenario involving either of its top QBs, Field Yates of ESPN.com adds (via Twitter).

Additionally, all emergency QBs must be on teams’ active rosters. None can be summoned from practice squads during a game. Teams will, however, be able to designate their emergency passer 90 minutes before kickoff. Should one of the team’s top two QBs be deemed healthy enough to return to a game, the emergency QB must be yanked.
