What he did certainly helped his personal bank account in the long run, and it gave him better stats than he would've had. Getting to play for a playoff team right out the chute is a huge advantage, as we saw with other guys like Marino and Roethlisberger.

However, a person also has an ethical obligation to their industry. We can all make more money if we do things that cause long-term damage to our fields, and that's what Elway did.

In my field, I can provide good service for a fair price, and I can look out for my clients' best interest, and I can do well. I could make more money if I ripped clients off, if I overcharged them whenever possible, and if I convinced them to use more expensive options than they need. But that's bad for my field in the long run, and I have an ethical obligation to create an environment where future generations in my field can enjoy the trust that my work created.

Elway said, 'screw future generations'. He said, 'I don't care about the future of the game. I want to make as much money as I can and do what gives me the greatest advantage, and if it's bad for the sport, what do I care?' The best thing about what he did is that only a small handful of players have had the same callous and selfish attitude - Bo Jackson, Kelly Stouffer, and Eli Manning.

Piololi is a bigger threat to keep us from ever winning a Super Bowl than Elfway is. **** I can give a **** about Elfway taking charge of the Donkies he isn't a threat to hold us back or make them Super Bowl champs themselves. Pioli OTOH is keeping us from our dreams and hopes from achieving even a playoff win. We keep getting our asses kicked because of Pioli not Horseyface. I hate them both equally I just hate Pioli more equally for different reasons.

Capitalist pig.

Racist.

(Wiping a bit of flying spittle from mouth.)

Actually, I thought Elway's motivation was that he didn't want to play for Frank Kush, who was a real asshole. He had leverage of threatening to play baseball instead of football, and he used it. I never had a problem with it. I would have done the same thing if I had been in Elway's position, and I suspect you would have too.

I think saying that Elway damaged the very foundation of the NFL is a bit of a stretch.

That's funny, I don't recall Elway ever saying that.

I think you never understood why Elway didn't want to play for the Colts, and as a result you've wasted all these years hating a guy who didn't really do anything wrong. It wasn't about money. It wasn't about wanting to play for a better team. It was about refusing to play for a sadistic asshole who got fired at Arizona State for punching a player and then attempting to sabotage the investigation by intimidating the witnesses.

After much thought in seeing this thread, I've just now decided to vote... Elway.

I've hated his Horse Face for YEARS, much longer than Pioli. Elway ****ed us over more than a Decade, Pioli's only done it for a few years.

They can both lick my taint but that jackass Elway can rot in a shallow grave first.

Elway and it shouldn't even be up for debate, I almost wish bad things on him.

Yes, he damn well should have. Too bad Pioli had to jump all over him before McDaniels could.

I wish Clark Hunt paid attention to his fans, not saying we are always right but you always have to keep your customers happy to be successful. This poll shows me how much hatred the fans have for Pioli and deservedly so,when you hate your own gm more then hof division rival. Pioli needs to be gone ASAP!

Lex Luthor 10-14-2012 10:28 PM

Hating an opposing player just because he's a great player who kicks your team's ass is really kind of silly. If Elway had played for the Chiefs, you guys would be building statues to him.

Hating a general manager who is totally screwing up your franchise and making your team irrelevant makes perfect sense.
