Schematically, there are some things they do that are dynamite against mediocre and bad QBs that just drop in effectiveness against elite teams in the playoffs.

And if that's the case, I don't see any way McDermott survives the fall-out. They'd have to move on, wouldn't they?

That could be good or bad, depending on who they'd hire. I suspect there would be a push to elevate Joe Brady. He could be an awesome or awful HC.

I couldn't see them going after another defensive coach, but would they chase Ben Johnson - and would he have interest?

If the Bills fired McDermott that would mean their owner Terry Pegula would lead the coaching search.

And Terry Pegula knows ZERO about football. He hired McDermott because he liked the sound of his name and that he was a wrestler.

There’s no chance McDermott would get fired if it’s the kind of game it would need to be for a Broncos win, which is one in which turnovers do them in and they lose 23-20 or something like that. I don’t think the defense will just get shredded for 38 points so he’ll be safe. It would be chalked up to him over achieving in the regular season with a depleted roster and getting unlucky at the wrong time.

If they lose to Denver, you fire McDermott.

You may not want to, but you don't have a choice. He can't come back from that. Not with 13 seconds on his playoff resume as well.

But they ain't losing to Denver. I'd lay 8+ points for Buffalo were I a betting man. I just think we're pretty amped up about Denver smoking a pile of backups given that they'd lost to Cincy and the Chargers the previous two weeks and have exactly one win against a playoff team on their entire schedule this year (no, the Backup Chiefs aren't a playoff team. They're just borrowing a playoff team's laundry).

The Broncos should be out of this one early in the 3rd, IMO. They may score late to make it a single digit loss, but I'd be surprised if they have the ball with a chance to even tie the score, let alone take the lead, at any point in the 2nd half.

I agree. But I think it's a hard sell given where they were and where they are now.

Where they are now is they have a top 5 QB and have built the roster pretty much the way they want TWICE around him.

He's got to break through or they simply can't waste another year of Allen's career on him.

It would take Chiefs front office sized balls like the ones we had to move on from Alex after a 12-4 season or to trade Hall of Fame WR Tyreek Hill to reload on picks.

At the moment, I haven’t seen a lot of front offices with that type of gumption, which honestly might be what gives us the edge in February.

This. While Denver is better than most of us thought they would be this year, they are still not in the same class as Buffalo. I just can't imagine the Bills losing to them, especially in Buffalo without something major happening (such as an Allen injury). I honestly think Buffalo wins and it won't be particularly close.

They dont have Patrick Mahomes...that makes everything easier and for management to look like geniuses.

BlackOp 01-08-2025 05:46 PM

They are really afraid of of Denver...Mahomes has scarred them for life.

Imagine having Allen as your QB, at home...and being afraid of Bo Nix and a team that just lost every important game to finish the season?

That 38-0 farce of a win made them think the Donks are a good team...they are an average team that beat bad teams..

I've watched both play a lot this year....Bills should win by 2-3 scores.

Bearcat 01-08-2025 06:11 PM

I always forget this was against the Bills...
