I re-watched the game last night with a couple of areas of observation, one of them being Fisher.

I honestly think its impossible to overstate how bad he was in that game. That may have been more condensed suck into a single half than I've ever seen from a tackle; Barry Richardson and Jordan Black included.

There was a play where the TE got chipped inside, turned around and pushed backwards into Fisher (who had disengaged from his block) and Fisher fell down. He ****ing fell down when a player got pushed into him.

And anyone with anything remotely resembling a speed rush blew by him.

When I watched that game in real time I was extremely concerned with Smith's passing. And really, I remained concerned when I watched it again (he had 2 very bad plays where he just refused to get rid of the ball). But man, 1/2 those drop backs he had absolutely no chance because Fisher was able to do nothing.

I was floored by how ineffective Fisher was.

EDIT: I see Clay Gif'd him up. Yeah, I forgot to mention the other play where he fell flat on his ass.

He was incredibly bad.

And to think some people here wanted him starting at LT with Albert gone.

I like that he plays hurt and keeps coming back for more. He's got plenty of mental toughness.

People within the Chiefs organization should want him to fight through this suck and show more strength and skills.

The consistent theme is he is over-compensating by trying to play without his hands, especially his right hand. He's not getting beat off the speed rush because he's slow. He's getting beat because he's not getting a punch in or engaging the guy in a block. It's interesting to watch how many times he tries to block a guy with only his left hand and how many times he doesn't even use his hands, but instead leads the block with his head or shoulder.

The 4 gifs GoChiefs showed pretty clearly illustrate this. And the play where he falls over, he falls because Knile Davis is darting into the gap.

He's injured and hes playing out of position. Other teams are purposely targeting him because of this and also because of the inherent notoriety of being the #1 overall pick.

JFC hes a rookie in the second preseason game facing the defending NFC champs. He'll be fine.

As far as actual play; he was an average RT. Don't know that he would have been cut if he'd have shut his mouth.

Shit, some here think that's all we should get from the first pick in the draft...

I saw the same thing in the 49ers game that I saw in practice when people were telling me "it wasn't that bad, I was there too" and other nonsense.

When I was describing how badly Austen Lane was "walking him like a dog" I wanted to throw up.

It's sad that he doesn't seem to have improved at all since those days I was at camp.

The kid better get it going...

Woodley
Matthews
Ware
Pierre Paul
Tuck
Watt
Mingo
Von Miller x2
Orakpo
Mathis

That's just a quick list of guys that he will have to face this year...and before someone says "some of those guys are gonna be on the opposite side"..recognize that DCs will move players to favorable matchups.

The guy can't block backups...how is he gonna fair against those types of players?

I'm gonna keep on saying this...Jalil Brown and Dante Robinson are gonna give up a lot of scores collectively and Alex Smith is gonna need to counter those scores by putting up points if we are to win games and Eric Fisher is a LIABILITY AS A BLOCKER and will get guys hurt if he doesn't step his game up a few levels.

How are we gonna put up a lot of points with a right tackle that's this bad and a quarterback that doesn't throw to his wide receivers?

BossChief 08-21-2013 03:37 PM

If his hand has a serious injury, they need to sit the kid down and let it heal...there is no way he is benefiting from being out there getting eviscerated by backups while trying to prove he is "tough".

He is damn lucky he didn't have to face Justin and Aldon Smith.

mcaj22 08-21-2013 03:52 PM

is Fisher really going to get "the playing out of position" free pass all season if he sucks?

what about Jeff Allen? same treatment if he sucks? Jeff Allen was a tackle he has to learn guard not fair!

Any Reid played OG in college and coached OL in college for 9 years so he may have a clue as to what may work for Fisher and his development.

RealSNR 08-21-2013 04:03 PM

If Reid decided to let Fisher's hand heal 100%, we'd see Geoff Schwartz playing RT according to the depth chart.

Schwartz is most comfortable at guard. He said so himself. How much of a liability would that be?

mcaj22 08-21-2013 04:08 PM

what about Matt Reynolds, there was some people on here hyping him

BossChief 08-21-2013 04:08 PM

Marcellus never gets tired of making the same old tired excuses every offseason, does he?

"these guys are in the NFL so we should just shut up and let them do their jobs"

It's not like we are on a message board discussing ymthe team or anything...

Fixed.

BYU. Undrafted 2012. Cut twice in 1 year by 2 different teams. Nuff said.

Yes. He will. Even though he was the best prospect available out of every collegiate player.
