Apparently, we all should love it, too, because it's all we got. |

I just spoke with a friend in the A&M Athletic Department, and he said while nothing is "official" the talk in the office is that 10 team Big 12 is going to happen.

The proposed deal will keep the remaining 10 Big XII schools together. Texas would get a lot of money. The rest of the schools would not get as much, but more than they are currently getting. |
ESPN.com has switched to the Texas is staying rumor. That'd be great because then the Big 10 will have 12 teams and the Big 12 will have 10. Mass hysteria.

Isn't the Big 10 making about $20M per school? With all the screaming and regret over the Big 12 shackled to a paltry contract, I'd think we'd be really happy to see us suddenly making very close to what the Big 10 schools make. A school like KU would likely be making more than almost every Big 10 school when looking at all revenue sources combined.
Why is this a bad thing? Yeah Texas gets a few measly extra million, but we're talking the other 9 losing out on roughly half a million each. If anything, this locks up Texas since they wouldn't get more elsewhere. |
The continued talk from Texas schools of additional "research opportunities" is a little dumbfounding.
Any opportunities that are there with schools outside of the Big 12 are there now, since research has absolutely ZERO to do with NCAA conference affiliation. Most serious researchers at the university level would probably struggle to even tell you WHICH freaking NCAA conference their school is a part of. As someone who works for the A&M System, Bob Dole can call up anyone, in any NCAA conference (or NAIA, or whatever the hell else, for that matter), and propose collaborative research projects. And Bob Dole finds it difficult to believe that joining the Mega-Whatever 26 is going to provide any additional connectivity/bandwidth benefits beyond that which every Texas Big 12 school already has with LEARN. The continued mention of such is approaching the point of being insulting. |

Wonder what the name of the conference will change to. Something tells me the Big 10 will keep that name even if they expand to 14. |
