I finally watched Hereditary.
Meh. I really thought the title would play a part in the end but it really was some supernatural shit. |

^^^
Bat Times at the El Royale was decent enough featuring some good performances . You could tell the director was VERY influenced by Tarantino here. And it could have been 20 t0 25 minutes shorter imo but it was worth watching . 7/10 Apostle (Netflix) - ****ing awesome film 8.5/10 |
****. This is one of the best endings to a movie I've ever seen. I teared up a little.
I know it's not the same character but now I hate seeing The Man With No Name plug a round into Angel Eyes in TGTBATU <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/c0sOcJ0ZNc8" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

One of my favorites, because I think it's among the best of Morricone's scores, which are already my favorite scores. Plus PALANCE!!

Amusing that Tarantino took that track and made a better scene with it LMAO
|
Eastwood had a horse allergy LMAO

A Star is Born was actually a pretty good movie. Bradley Cooper ****ing killed it.

Hard to believe Gaga had never acted before. She was amazing. Blew everybody off the screen, including Cooper. Won't be surprised at all if she wins an Oscar. |

JFC, how is video that poor quality still on the internet. |
I'm 0 for 2 on Stanley Kubrick movies. Watched Shining for the first time today and I thought it was a really bad movie. Didn't like FMJ, but this movie was a lot worse.

Watching those old classics you’ve got to change your mindset going in. It’s just a whole new world. Movies have changed so much. If Jaws, Halloween or, shit, even Alien were released today they would be absolutely shit on by audiences. |
Shining is ****ing awesome!!!!

So very ready.
Though 'The Girl Who Played with Fire' was the superior book. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jEINTQ2AP9k" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Watched Hotel Artemis last night. Was solidly underwhelmed. Decent premise, good cast, but pretty firmly "meh".

not a new movie, but it's a favorite of mine, and on TCM this very moment
Men Don't Leave check it out sometime. It actually may be available for free on utube Jessica Lange stars. It'll break your heart, but it's triumphant, too. "They sure do love their Daddies, don't they?" |
Wish I could be more enthusiastic after watching The Other Side of the Wind.
It works as a time capsule, and as an experiment, but was still a little too slapdash to qualify as high quality. Part of that may be it's time capsule status. At the time it was being made, Hollywood was first strugging with it's insularity and power. But by now, the story of all the facade and braggadocio behind the auteur. It was a long project, the last one, of Orson Welles. It was supposed to be a cinema verite view of the night of the screening of a towering director's final film. All the press, and hangers-on, and glad-handers whirling around an aging drunk seeking to sop up wisdom, celebrity, cachet, etc. Welles never finished it, but it was cobbled and post-productioned together by others. The closest I could summarize to describe it is if Robert Altman had made Entourage in the late 1960s, early 1970s. That said, John Huston is impeccible. Almost worth watching for him alone. As memorable as he was in Chinatown. Reminiscent of Daniel Plainview in TWBB <iframe width="606" height="340" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nMWHBUTHmf0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Overlord was just okay (not as wild & crazy as a lot of the critics said it was though). 6/10
Kurt Russell's son is one of the main leads (not anywhere close as charismatic or as good as his old man) |
Watched Justice league the other day. I was prepared for a Batman vs Superman type shit show but it actually wasn't that bad. The CGI was pure shit though.

I gave it a 7.5/10. Fun flick. |
Had seen one of The Purge movies mentioned in another forum lol
watched the 1st one and most of the 2nd. What a waste of what could've, in better hands, been an awesome premise. Horrible movies. |
I've recently started back up on my classic tear. Watched Robocop last night. It had a lot more gore than I was expecting..
Now I'm moving on to the Bond films.. all of them. Starting with the Connery's. Wish me luck! |

Just finished the most recent Bonds with Craig. **** he was good. I always end up drinking a vesper martini after watching them though. |

I came across a movie the other night that was new to me, anyway. It's called "The Green Inferno", and it features 1 1/2 hours of SJW's getting EXACTLY what they deserve. It was glorious.

People admit it is moving and well told, but are righteously angered over it's problematic messaging. It's based on a true story. You might remember Tony Lip from The Sopranos and Goodfellas https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0513401/ https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood...ony-vallelonga The family of the pianist are on a campaign against it because they weren't 'sufficiently consulted' and arguing that he wasn't estranged as the movie suggests. And some are simply angered because the movie isn't literally a movie about the green book. google 'green book problematic' and enjoy. |
Cinefix is a GREAT resource, and their top 10 of 2018 is out. It's great in that it not only picks great films, but explains their attractiveness in ways that excite you to watch their selections

Rampage was meh. Didn't expect much and wasn't disappointed.
Bird Box was worth a watch. Slenderman was absolute garbage. Solo was pretty good, I thought. L3 was funny and the actors playing Han and Lando did a great job. |
saw a lot this year and I gotta say it was kind of a very meh year for film. here are some of my favs of 2018
1. Leave No Trace 2. You Were Never Really Here 3. Annihilation 4. Sicario 2 5. The Sisters Brothers 6. Outlaw King IMO the year 2017 shits all over 2018 . 2017 had Blade Runner 2049 , Dunkirk, Wind River, Logan , mother, Brawl in Cell Block 99 , John Wick 2 , Wonder Woman & Get Out etc etc (just a superior year all around imo) 2019 should (hopefully) be pretty good to great . Can't wait for The Irishman , Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Dragged Across Concrete |

It's far from a 'new' movie, but still a 2018 offering. Finally got around to Isle of Dogs a little tipsy and tired when I couldn't sleep after all the festivities.
Was in the right mood to sit and watch without looking to distract myself as is my usual wont. Enjoyed it a great deal. If I had to sum it up, I'd characterize it as the 'Wes Anderson-est' movie in a while. Everything you love [or hate] about WA movies are perfectly calibrated for the medium and the narrative. What surprised me was the effectiveness of two things, the running gags and the subtle characterizations of the dogs. The humor is subtle and dry, but while you won't pause the DVR to roll on the ground laughing, you WILL pause a time or two to gently and languorously savor a well-earned chuckle [it will be a while before I hear Jeff Goldblum talk without thinking to myself 'hey, did you hear about?']. And more than once the scenes made me earnestly wish for a nearby dog to hug just for being a dog. Fist pumps will happen at points. It's meticulous and preachy and twee, but in all the perfect ways that make for a satisfying 90+ minutes. At this point, I measure Wes Anderson against the likes of Tarantino and the Coens, and while IoD wasn't on par with the absolute best of any of the three, it is in the upp quadrant, and I'd say it's the best of the most recent offerings of the three [between IoD, Buster Scruggs, and H8ful8, which I place in that order]. This isn't a preview of the film itself, per se. But if you end up hating this 'honest trailer' IoD and Wes aren't for you. And if you find yourself excited, they probably are. <iframe width="949" height="534" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/trWLY6NrS2Q" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I love Wes Anderson's films. The Life Aquatic is a ****ing underappreciated masterpiece. I haven't seen Isle of Dogs yet.

Its one innovative conceit is retelling a mostly true story, dramatized with competent actors, and with the narrative punctuated by accounts from the real people in the originating story. It has a pretty darn decent soundtrack that lends it propulsion, atmosphere and emotion. But the origin story doesn't reveal a whole lot new for fact or fiction. Bored teens plan for the theft of valuable library books that they deem under minimal security. They take their planning cues from modern heist movies. But the difficulties they run into are more pedestrian and emotional than the slick stories on the big screen, and they make a royal mess of it. There is some value in the counterposition of the debasing and soul-crushing reality of criminality with the daydream adventure of it. I won't say more than that to avoid ruining what I took to be the emotional heart of the film. |

Yeah as my brother and his wife loved Game Night. Looks pretty dumb to me. But that is just me.
|
Game Night is good dumb fun done well.
It's likeable and funny actors working in a smart premise. It's not going to change any lives, but you'll enjoy a carefree 90 or so minutes, you'll enjoy watching them perform, and you'll laugh a time or two. It's not earth-shaking, but the premise is ripe for comedy and the cast is well suited to take advantage of it. |

I like Arrested Development, and generally speaking I think Bateman can be pretty funny in most roles-- I even had a few laughs during 'Bad Words'.
This movie just seemed like a money grab; lifeless and unfunny. |
