I had a couple YOLO pours last weekend... found Pappy 12yr after seeing it on a few other menus and striking out. It's one of those "to the style" drinks that's outstanding and worth the pour for an incredibly smooth drink.
And then one I didn't know existed, Jefferson's Marian McLain... and it was ****ing outstanding. It's one you don't want to try because you're afraid of falling in love with it and will splurge for a bottle. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/E46DlLGbKNo" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

My wife had the night off so just got home from Price Chopper as she needed some things for Dad's Day dinner. I milled around in the liquor department. Low and behold the fabled WT Rare Breed cask strength was on the shelf 2 bottles. I grabbed one then I saw Old Overholt rye BIB and another new one Ezra Brook's 99 both on sale both at 20 bucks each. The Wife said one bottle so RB it was.
So when got home I cracked it open and poured one neat. My first impression was smooth super sweet thick and oily with a late bite kick. The finish was ok but not lasting. Not disappointing but for the price have had much better. This is just a first impression good but I expected more. |
Bingo. Not bad, I like Rare Breed but not worth the usual price these days. Go back for the Ezra 99 on sale, it's worth the extra trip.
|
I've got some Old Forrester King Ranch that I've been sipping on that's real nice.
Got a bottle of Weller single Barrel that I'm waiting for just the right time to open. |
You guys are killing it!

Anyone mess with any of the Ezra Distillers Collection bottles?
Grabbed one on sale this afternoon along with a Del Bac Dorado |
Sippin’ on a little Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight tonight. I feel taken advantage of though. It is not uncommon to see this sell for around $60, but don’t buy it at that price because it can be had in the $40 range or even slightly less if you poke around the various liquor stores. And $40 is what I paid today. But at the next stop as I was looking for a rum I still hadn’t found I saw Yellowstone for $25. I visibly recoiled when I saw it, feeling a little sick over having already bought my bottle. I’ve never seen it at that price before. I know where I’ll be going next time I want more of it though.

I picked up a bottle of Chicken Cock Kentucky Straight yesterday. With a name like that how could I resist, right? I am enjoying it quite a bit though. We’ll see how it holds up through the end of the bottle, but I could see this having a permanent place in the liquor cabinet.
I’ve lost the ability to post pics taken by phone so here‘a a link to their website instead (I really want to try that Island Rooster rye, but not at a $200 price tag) - https://shopchickencockwhiskey.com/ |

Could've been my timing on a Sunay afternoon but I was the only person at the bar and ol boy kept feeding me barrel pick after barrel pick before I was like bro I have to drive back to Globe Seriously though grabbed a pour of Del Bac single barrel plus their Yellowstone pick to-go. This place is super friendly and legit. https://i.imgur.com/zOqsiCo.jpg |

Sorry for the general post (lack of quoting), but I remember seeing someone post about 1792 Small Batch on here a while back, and looking back I must be overlooking the post that I saw.
Finally got to try it this weekend. Probably my new preferred Bourbon in that price range.... Very good stuff. |

Friend of mine owns a liquor store in town, he bought a barrel of Makers. My golf club bought their own barrel. They all went for a tasting, picked their blend, had it bottled and sent to them. I've got one from each. |

I'm far pickier about beer, so I usually know what I'm getting into and rarely disappointed with a purchase... and a 22oz bottle of course goes far quicker.... compared to bourbon, where there's just a ton out there (and so much of it sounds great on the surface), and collecting it like beer would make for a lifetime supply 10 times over., so I rely much more on goof bourbon bars to try stuff or try before I buy. |
