I'm continually impressed with Jackson/Winklejohn and the gameplans they come up with. Another great one tonight that was 2 mins. away from delivering another championship.

Don't think they gave Lawler anything.

You have to look at round 3 and decide whether you give more points for less than full force volume striking for Condit or the bombs Lawler landed. I will always side with the power because it just does more damage, you just have to land it and he did.

I didn't mean they gave it to me like it was a robbery...every combat sport though, almost always in a razor thin fight you'll see the champ get the nod.

I had it 3-2 Condit.

The general reaction from the media seems to be "eh, we think Condit won, but it was close enough that we won't complain much" Also, that crazy round 5 probably earned Lawler some goodwill wrt any questions or controversy, everyone knew that Condit was getting beaten down at the bell.

That's pretty much where I'm at with it...

Yeah, the champ always gets a slight benefit of the doubt on scorecards. I had it 3-2 for Condit, but the 3rd round was close, and thats all Lawler needed. You need to either crush the champ on the scorecards, or finish him.

BigCatDaddy 01-02-2016 11:46 PM

The only down side to Condit being the champ is he would lose it to some lay and pray wrestler in a boring ass fight.

alnorth 01-02-2016 11:51 PM

Confirmed: Round 3 was the difference. One more judge decided to write a 10 instead of a 9 in Lawler's column.

So is it worth finding this fight online afterwards to watch?

Yes, round 5 was silly, especially considering the context, knowing Condit won at least 2 rounds (maybe 3, but as it turned out only 2) and it was looking like he was going to eke out round 5 too, then Lawler went ape in the last couple minutes.

edit: the second best fight was Poirier/Duffy from the fightpass prelim.

Yeah, Condits crazy high volume striking makes for non stop action.

weird stat:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Lawler landed 51% of his sig strikes. Carlos landed 35% but Rob was 92/177, Carlos was 176/495! Has to be a record. Amazing fight!!!</p>&mdash; Dana White (@danawhite) <a href="https://twitter.com/danawhite/status/683530059961860097">January 3, 2016</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

When I was watching the fight live, right after the 3rd round I thought Lawler edged out condit, but then during the 4th I second guessed myself because thats when they started flashing Condit's insane strike stats.... but Lawler's stats kinda confirmed that I was seeing Lawler land the majority of the significant strikes he was throwing, while maybe not appreciating Condit's volume.

The fight was not easy to score, because you had Condit's overwhelming volume vs Lawler's effectiveness and occasional flashes of beast mode, where he came close to KO'ing Condit twice.

He never came close to KOing him.

Dana White said he had it 3-2 for Condit, but the 5th round was one of the greatest rounds he's seen
