Atomic Heart is free on Gamepass. It's OK. Feels like a cross between Bioshock and Fallout. PC version is pretty buggy though. Some of it is super frustrating. Ran into multiple spots where the character would get stuck on or between objects, which would require a reload from the last save. The melee combat is really clunky. And they basically force you to use melee a lot because you typically don't have enough ammo to just use guns. Most of the bad guys are the most generic looking villians ever. You feel like you're beating up evil crash test dummies. Using your "Jedi" powers is certainly fun. Definitely the highlight of the game. It all gets a bit repetitive though. I feel like I have to loot a million bullshit items to build/upgrade weapons and gear. Way too much looting. Graphics look great. The protagonist comes off as a total douche though. The game has a weird obsession with robot sex.

I'll probably finish it. But I'm glad I didn't pay outright for it.

Atomic Heart looked interesting as hell to me like 5 years ago when I first saw it. Now I kinda feel like I'll just wait for a good discount.

Bioshock is one of the top games of all time for me. It's a game I always go back to. Even Bioshock 2 and Infinite. They're amazing.

I just wish there were some new PS5 games that interested me. Seems all I ever do is get on Modern Warfare 2 every once in a while and get my ass kicked.

The invention of devices like the Cronus Zen is making online FPS gaming almost unbearable. Any shitbag 15 year old can just buy one of those and be an online champ, and cheat prevention software can't do much about it. It sucks.

I feel the same about Atomic Heart, seems like some silly robot combat not really my thing. Pvp is garbage in about anything, I love Division PVE stuff but the DZ is a joke with hackers everywhere. No reason to go in and farm stuff for a dude shooting you from across the map at extraction and taking everything you farmed for.

3rd party hardware that plugs in between your system and controller that allows you to download scripts that negate things like recoil and adjust aim assist which allows you to make any gun a laser beam. When I went to their website to go look at it to learn more there was a 6 month wait for the hardware. Can’t tell who’s good and who’s a cheating POS anymore.

I get the feeling people are using cheats of some kind in about 90% of the lobbies I'm in. Lots of suspect shit. What I don't understand is how anyone could have fun cheating.

I'm in the same boat. Unless you like battle royales and the same old single player games (with open world, main quests and side quests!) and JRPGs, there isn't that much for playstation.

I should probably give bioshock a try, a few months ago it was the free game of the month and put it in the library. But atm I'm trying to platinum Hades.

Now that I think about it, there are some things on the horizon that interest me. Resident Evil 4, Diablo IV, Silent Hill 2. Dead Island 2 might be decent. I still need to try Dead Space remake. Loved the original. Horror games are my thing.

I had an old roommate that played games, but never played them without cheat codes. Same guy who would watch a shaky camcorder-filmed movie before it came out so they could say they were the first to see it.

Weird.

There's no sense of accomplishment with that approach.

ThaVirus 03-01-2023 02:51 PM

Yeah, that is weirdo behavior.

I don't like cheating or cheesing so even shit like camping in a corner on Call of Duty or money plays in Madden just piss me off.

I never knew about a Cronus Zen nor ever heard of it until your post. Man that is such bullshit! What a shame online gaming has become. :shake:

Sassy Squatch 03-01-2023 06:34 PM

Cronus has been a thing for a while now. Still not quite as bad as the outright degeneracy on PC, but it's pretty bad on consoles.

Exactly! I used to love BF 4 and then all of a sudden they were clearing rooms in Operation Locker with a single shot from an M203 grenade launcher! Just ridiculous.

Like 15 years ago I was pretty solid at Madden. An acquaintance who never played Madden or knew much about football wanted to play me and was being super cocky. Apparently he knew some cheese play where you snap the ball and immediately hold X to throw it to the TE. 95% of the time it's a gain of 5-8 yards. He did it every single play. Even when you know it's coming, it's hard to stop. Some weird warpy shit that happened. I think I ended up still beating him but it was way closer than it should've been. Pissed me off.

I see shit like people jumping around a corner and immediately taking me out when I'm in a really weird spot. I use ghost as a perk and there was no advanced UAV so no way he could've known where I was other than having some weird aimbot. Like within 2 milliseconds of him appearing, I was shot in the head. I see weird suspect shit like that too often.

A popular mod is called wallhacking. It essential targets your opponents so you can see them through walls. They can see you running around the corner, and just camp and wait like a no talent douche.

I'm kinda looking forward to company of heroes 3 to get on PS5, it's supposed to sometime this year, there's not anything for RTS on playstation and I'm kinda looking forward to that.

I wish sons of the forest was on console, it probably will be in like a year..

Sounds similar to a money play from a Madden I played roughly 8-10 years ago.

You'd line up in a 2 TE set, one on each side of the formation, and have them both run seams. Against most coverages, one of them would be wide open. Even if you usered the MLB, they could often throw the ball to the TE's inside or outside shoulder to have a chance to complete the pass.

I had been playing online for a while so I was used to it. I loaded into a match and this douchebag had his mic on. He must have had his friend there with him. First play, he runs the money play. I INT it, of course. He's like "Oh.. this guy's good." (I wasn't)

Anyway, I got on the mic and told him I've seen that play a ton and that he should just try something else. He didn't. Just kept trying to cheese it for another quarter, got nowhere, then rage quit.

I’m really into Hogwarts Legacy. It’s basically Skyrim, but at/around Hogwarts.

ToxSocks 03-06-2023 12:31 PM

Picked up Madden again after basically taking the last 15 years off from the Franchise.

IDK man....maybe i didn't give a shit as much as a kid, but all of a sudden i kinda hate this game.

Why is the defensive AI so ****ing stupid?

I think i had enough this weekend when, with 1:30 left in the game, Kyler Murray ran the ball 4 straight times for about 75 yards and the go ahead TD while my defense literally moved out of his way and/or just watched while standing there like a dumbass. A DB is a yard deep in the endzone and just watches Murray run 10 yards into the endzone w/o even moving.

ToxSocks 03-06-2023 12:33 PM

So in my new, sudden disdain for Madden, i downloaded Resident Evil 7 from PS+.

Big horror fan here, especially horror games though i never finish them because they're too ****ing stressful.

This game looks AMAZING. Only played an hour of it before getting too stressed out, haha.

LMAO I know the feeling. I've been one hour into The Last of Us for about 5 years now.

I decided to save myself $20 and NOT buy the Resident Evil 2 remake and instead watch the game movie on YouTube. Looks awesome and true to the original but I made a good choice because I was stressed just watching.

It's pretty good. I've gone through it several times. The only thing I don't like about it is I got tired of the poop monsters. Nothing but poop monsters. As tired as I got of zombies, dogs, lickers, and headhunters from the OG series, they're much better than poop monsters.

Just putting another plug in for Returnal. It's a true AAA roguelike, and IMO is probably one of the greatest I've ever played. If you are unsure, wait for it to drop to $40, but I'm up to 20 hours and still have only made it to the third biome.

I might have to check it out, I almost have Hades platinum on playstation. That's my first roguelike and it seems I kind of like the genre or maybe I just like this one because it's so well done and I kind of dig greek mythology.

Most Roguelikes are made on a shoestring to modest budget, so it's quite nice to see one get a AA+ treatment with cutting edge graphics and production values. The story itself is fairly interesting; feels like Alien meets Edge of Tommorow. The first 3 biomes I've explored look great; they are highly Alien looking and very creepy , almost foreboding. Lets just say there are moments where this game really traverses into sci-fi horror. As I've said earlier, the protagonist is pretty good, I think she's earned her seat as a main draw for Playstation "mascots". She's certainly more compelling that Aloy was from Horizon.

The real star of the show is the sublime combat. It's a mash-up of bullet hell damage avoidance in a 3 dimensional space meets twitch third-person shooter. There's a nice risk/reward reload mechanic that's reminiscent of Gears of War to go along with very punchy and unique weapons (we're talking from carbines, to shotguns, up to homing rockets, crystal shooting guns that connect to make laser webs, and of course the Rotgland Lobber). Weapons have random mutations each run to give great variability. I'm a die hard roguelike junkie so take it with a grain of salt, but it's definitely my game of the generation in the PS5/XSX era so far...but on PC.

COD is a huge revenue stream for both parties but it goes well beyond that.

Sony spent a lot of money and effort to bring up studios and produce high quality 1st party titles.

MS, on the other hand, doesn't have that and their strategy was just to go buy the biggest developers. Take over the development market for the biggest franchises (like Diablo, for example) and then keep them from Sony.

This is (and should be) a huge concern, not just for Sony fans, because it's extremely anti-competitive. MS has a habit of approaching competition this way, going all the way back to the 80's. I don't want to get into a pissing match about because people will just say I'm a Sony fanboy but I have never liked MS. Have had to deal them way too much in my career and they've NEVER actually had me, as a customer, in mind. It was all about maximizing profits.

Mass Effect is amazing, YES YES YES. One of the best experiences in gaming ever. The reason I love the Division so much is from Mass Effects cover shooter system, I really miss it since the 4th game was horrible.

Which sucks for the gamer. I get Sony doing it for the studios they developed, but Microsoft just buying up everyone to keep their content off of Playstation is petty. I will say that both would make so much more money by making games available on all platforms. I just can't see keeping them exclusive so that people buy a console moves the needle enough to justify exclusivity. Again, I don't know so perhaps I am way off on this.

I've been debating on this one. My son (24 years old) says he really enjoys it.

I'd say if you're a Harry Potter fan it's a must have. The world is as detailed and immersive as i've ever seen in a game. So i can only imagine the inner geek-out real fans must experience when they stroll through it.

Thanks for making me spend $70. :)

For MS, it's more about securing titles for Game Pass. MS actually takes a bit of a loss on every console they sell. They don't want to sell hardware, they want to sell subscriptions.

MS is counting on their existing install base of Windows PC's. Sony doesn't have that embedded base so they have to sell physical machines just to get you into their ecosystem.

So much so they pay Sony to make the Show a day 1 release game pass title.

Also they seem perfectly willing to allow the titles on Playstation, Sony just doesn't wanna have to pay them for it.

They're not willing to allow ALL titles on PS. In fact, right now they're threatening to go exclusive on several huge, cross-platform IP's.

Sure, they're willing to give Sony little games here and there, maybe an occasional AAA title. But if they're successful in getting what they want in the Zenimax acquisition, the shit is going to get real because titles like Elder Scrolls 6 (the next in line after Skyrim) are going to be Xbox-only.

Yea I could see that, right now Sony is having a total meltdown over call of duty even those MS said they'd put it on PS. Sony going so far as to say "they could put bugs in our version to make it suck on purpose"

Which of course led to people going...is this what you do Sony?

I get that but you can't blame them for exploring every argument there is to be had. If MS gets the deal they want with no strings, it's going to be a big blow to gaming in general, let alone to Sony themselves.

Yeah I think putting bugs in a game to get after a competitor is stupid, or at least if they do it they think gamers are stupid. I can’t think of the last game that had bugs and I blamed it on a system.

My question is when does this start to cross into that anti competitive realm and raise the eyebrows of the government.

Someone on Wired reviewed it and gave it a 1/10. Hope that helps keeping you from spending $70.

Yeah, their resident transgender reviewer who mostly reviews sex toys gave it a big "yikes" 1/10 because J.K. Rowling is the debil.

It happens quite a bit that a game has system-specific bugs. But the idea that it would be done maliciously, with forethought, yeah I've never heard of that happening.

It already has. It would already be done if the US government hadn't gotten involved. The EU rubber stamped it pretty quickly, despite the fact that it's an American company buying a fairly significant European corporation.

Unfortunately for MS, they not only have a track record of being anti-competitive but they've been successfully sued for it in the past. Their reputation is hurting them with US regulatory more than anything else.

Very true, just was trying to give the one negative review for him. LMAO

well I finally got the platinum trophy for Hades. Easily the best game that's come out for playstation in years. Wish Hades II would come out at the same time it does for PC, but looking forward to it.

Anyone that gave hogwarts legacy a 1/10 did it because of some woke cult ideology.

Its a gorgeous game, with combat highly reminiscent of Arkham games or Shadows of War, but a bit more whimsical and story driven.

Its also got its issues, like there are only about 6 different types of enemies, side quests can get old etc.

I have about 35 hours in at this point and done about 50% of the story and 50% of the side stuff. Next thing on the list is unlocking avra kedavra and ima start killing the **** out of people.

7.5/10 is a realistic view of this game

I'm still on the fence, I was looking around and it sounded like people were saying it's kind of a movie game with tons of cutscenes and that never appeals to me. Is that true?

In my near 20 hours of playtime, I've been "subjected" to at most 10 minutes of story related elements. It's a miniscule part of the experience, and almost every moment you aren't playing the game can be skipped by holding down a button. It's a video game ass video game, there is barely any story elements to get in the way of just playing. As a fellow Hades lover (And one close to beating the Epilogue), I don't think you should skip Returnal.

So it’s a pretty short game? I definitely plan to get it, just will wait till it inevitably goes on sale at some point. I can’t remember the last game I paid full price for.

right on, it sounds cool. I might grab it next time I see it on sale or something. There's quite a few games coming out in the next few months that I'm interested in though, mainly D4.

Returnal has hardly any story tbh I never noticed much of it. I know D4 will be a great game but I don't like the non trading aspects. You can't trade with your buddies other than what you can trade to anyone which is rares and lower. Last Epoch is really fun, would suggest you look at it if you like Diablo style games, reminds me the most of Diablo 2 of anything released since.

I'm actually expecting D4 to be pretty bad. But I want to experience it anyways lol, I feel like it will be entertaining at least while reading up on whatever drama/crying unfolds during the first couple of months.

I'm a Path of Exile player, so whatever they do for their in game will most likely pale in comparison. But I think it will be pretty entertaining at first. The battle passes and shit like that is stupid though.

I wish Path of Exile had better graphics, I've tried it many times since it came out but it has never pulled me in. I know they've added a ton to it and I can appreciate that but I'll wait for POE 2 before jumping back in.

the graphics don't bother me, I enjoy it quite a bit. POE 2 will be interesting, not sure when that's coming. I figured they were waiting for Diablo 4 to drop but they haven't said anything about it.

It's been coming soon for a couple of years now, not sure what's holding it back.
