I'm playing on normal, going with the flow. That battle was like the 3rd time in the entire game where I had to pause and issue commands myself (take active control of my party members and strategize), lol. Other than that, I just ****ing run around raping baddies with my 2-hander while Aveline tries to tank or something and the other 2 tards support me with range.

I actually skipped one fight on Nightmare. Hybris. I just got tired of doing it and finally dropped down. I'll eventually have to do it on Nightmare just to do it. Everything else in the game I was able to get through on Nightmare.

A lot of it is using the environment, line-of-sighting stuff, but primarily it's about figuring out what elemental type does the most damage to whatever you're fighting.

Speaking of that, here's a list of some of the best damage types, it might help you guys out playing on Hard or NM (I don't think anything is actually immune on any level but Nightmare, but still is still weaker/stronger on the easier settings):

i wonder whether or not i should be using a 2-hander or not

right now i'm running with 1 tank + 3 mages

Oh, and I think the most advantageous way to use that element list is with a mage with elemental weapons. I had it on Anders, and kept various staves in my inventory for him to swap, rather than keeping a whole stack of random weapons for everybody. Although for certain tough fights I would switch out runes and so forth. I did keep 2 or 3 different one-handers for Aveline to use, just in case she ran up against something that was immune to whatever I had her using at the time (usually a dragon...).

Well, I think you need a tank no matter what, man. You can't have a 2hander and 3 squishies running around. That would be a recipe for disaster, I imagine.

I use Aveline (pretty much unkillable at this point), myself (2-hander fully specced for massive damage, high crit %), Anders as healer and DPS (when needed) and Varric as straight DPS plus lock picker and trap disarmer. Working out pretty good so far, but then again, I'm playing it on Normal.
