Hoping for a 1,000 car pileup on their way back to St Louis.

Players with good tools and athleticism that our player development personnel can **** up.

Seriously, though, it really doesn't matter who DM and company draft; the results will be the same.

****, they are everywhere. It didn't use to be that way. The Royals just took a huge shit on 2+ decades of fans and let the Cards completely take over the entire Midwest. We are grateful to the Cardinal Organization that they allow the R's to dress in the Home Locker Rooms at the K.......

Except for the fact that the stadium is never that full in August.

Paying close attention to who goes after the Royals pick so I know who to grab in my 2017 fantasy draft.

Grab the guy before and the guy after the R's pick.

If they're going to draft bats, I'd prefer to see them draft an advanced college guy or two, guys that are more finished products. They typically have tended towards HS bats with elite upside, but I could see them stepping away from that this year (just like they did in 2009 and 2010) to try to fill in holes in the next "wave" of players (A+ and AA). There are really not any OF bats other than Bonifacio, unless you're counting on Starling figuring it out (bad proposition). A college player or two could help with that.

Kyle Schwarber of Indiana fits that bill. Good plate discipline, elite power (not that it means anything with the Royals, who seem to thrive at turning guys with elite power into contact hitters). Probably is a LF/DH/1B type in the majors, but he'll be available at 17 and maybe even at 28.

Other names to watch:

Kodi Madeiros (Hawaiian who keeps getting connected to KC... raw lefty HS kid who throws from weird arm angles and seems very anti-KC approach)

Jeff Hoffman (East Carolina college hurler is currently on the shelf with TJ but might slip. Should be ready to throw by mid-season next year.)

It'll be a HS pitcher who will need TJ surgery in the next 18 months. Book it.

Certainly wouldn't surprise ... and Madeiros is a guy who looks like he's going to have all sorts of problems eventually (throws from several different arm slots, throws hard, cross body, etc).

But I suspect we'll see them use a similar approach as in last year's draft (draft a quality guy like Dozier who will sign for a little under slot and use the savings on a talent that slips) to really maximize the value of the extra picks.

Hoffman is a really great candidate for this, though I'm not sure he'll slip as far as #17.

DeezNutz 06-02-2014 07:54 AM

How about that dude from Kentucky with a shit ton of power? Probably too early in the first, but maybe in the second?

But damn if drafting 1B doesn't seem stupid. Too easy to find players for the position, contrary to the way the Royals treat Hosmer.

I went out for lunch yesterday and the TV behind the bar was playing the Cardinals/Giants game, while the Royals/Blue Jays game (on a the same time) was nowhere to be found.
