Had most of the day off and binged American Primeval on Netflix, directed by Peter Berg who gives himself a cool, yet foolhardy, cameo
All six episodes are outstanding, the attention to period detail was superb and it tells a story worth telling about the old west... those were lawless days, you could damn near get away with anything if you were smart |

I get it -- early episode and the beginning of mythology that ends up spanning eons. It couldn't be too terribly rapid. But phew, it was hard to get back into it. I'll get there at some point, I suppose. But it's not a page turner for me at the moment. |

Keeping with the western theme, I'm one episode in on this Wyatt Earp/Ok Corral docuseries on Netflix
Narrated by Ed Harris, with excellent live action playing out the true story... for all of the reading I've done about this subject, still didn't know half of what the actual story was For some reason I was thinking it'd be a dull retelling of the same old story using mostly old pictures etc, but no its a fascinating look back at that era with solid actors and sets etc Imagine this, $6000 in 1881 money is a 180k today |
Season finale of Silo was pretty good up until the last 10 ****ing minutes and they ruined a perfectly good season finale. God damn pointless shit.

Watch it though, because the first season is amazing and i thought the second season was pretty good, but just a bit slow. |
Night Agent on Netflix is coming back soon. It’s definitely pretty boilerplate spy type action show but I enjoyed the first season. It’s not breaking any new ground but it’s not trying to.

Then I didn't like the 2nd season. In part because I just don't think it was as good, but also I think knowing where everything leads takes some of the mystery out of it. So I'll probably have to defer to the folks that haven't read all the books as to whether the 2nd season was objectively worse -- I sure thought it was. By quite a bit. |
Just wanted to pop in and say the board is now 2 for 2 on recent show recommendations for me. In regards to shows I'd never even heard about before reading on here. I watched The Last Kingdom a few months ago and already shared my opinion but absolutely loved it.
And then last night I just finished Black Sails. I'm loving these shows that have some historical accuracy mixed with fiction and storytelling that just works. Black Sails was awesome and I suppose it's time to read Treasure Island really quickly as well to put a cap on the end of it. The pirate genre was totally fun. Time to scour back through these pages and find my next binge but to those that recommended Black Sails I just thought I'd give out an internet high-five. |
American Primeval on Netflix is just top notch. As other have mentioned it is ****ing brutal though. We haven't made it to the end yet so I am hoping the ending is as good as the show has been. So far through 4 episodes I would give it a 10/10.
|
Just watched the Jerry Springer documentary on Netflix. Brought back some memories and had some interesting behind the scenes stuff in it.
|
Now that I finally have Netflix, I'm into episode six of The Last Dance and damn its good... reminds me of why I used to love basketball so much, what an incredible era that was

I started S 2. It's better than S1. Hopefully it can finish. I will say the main dude cannot run. And they keep making him do it. I've never seen anything like it. I wasn't any kind of elite runner or anything, but that dude is just swinging appendages. Never did I long for Tom Cruise sprint. |

I am now 5 episodes into Severance but I dunno if I'll stick it out on this one. I guess I don't get the attraction. |
Plowed through Bodkin the past couple days. It started off great, the characters were quirky but likable, and then it seemed to try and take it in a different direction in the 3rd episode. I found myself losing interest, but finished it anyways hoping the ending would tie it all together, but it fell flat.

That’s funny I haven’t noticed his running but will definitely look for it when I get to starting season 2. |
Now onto the Tom Brady roast on netflix, damn man its pretty good
Never could've imagined Bledsoe being THIS good, wow he kills it |
If you like Michelle Randolph‘s ass, “Landman” will entertain you.

Like others have said American primeval is absolutely phenomenal. Totally brutal, shows how rough those times were and also bringham young was a major douche. I binged it all in one day it was so damn good.

Finished The Night Agent. Season 2 was awesome and the ending was really ****ed up.
I've been watching The White Lotus. Loving it so far. |

And they keep doing it! Sorry if I broke the show for you. It's just really bad. |

The story is ****ing nuts -- at least S1 was, then it got more nuts as it went along. And yet...I watch it? I really don't know why. It's bad. I mean everything about it is just god-awful. Yet here I am. I think I'm 3 episodes in to S2 and I think ultimately the answer is that I will watch any spy shit, no matter how awful it is. And when the wife hasn't quite realized that it's shite so we can watch it in the evenings, things just tend to work out. But anybody trying to compare this to, say, Jack Ryan - they're just out to lunch. It ain't in the same stratosphere. |

I really enjoy the show, but damn they do some annoying ass shit. Speaking of spy shows on Netflix, has anyone watched The Recruit? I really liked season 1, but shit season 2 (especially the finale) was beyond unrealistic lol. Worse than any storm trooper shooting and missing the good guys stuff. |

Just finished One Good Deed. Decent but not as good as some I've seen lately. The cast was excellent though.

I watched the first episode and didn't think it would be good. Should I fire it up again? |

Like I said, good show. I guess I just expected more with that cast. |

Yeah, I'm just done with Rose. She really does suck. But here's what bugs me -- why the **** am I supposed to like Noor? Or give a single shit about her? And why am I supposed to dislike Javad? THAT'S HIS ****ING JOB!!!! He's the head of security for the Iranian embassy. What the hell else would you have him doing in that role? Why is he a bad guy in any of this? And why should I sympathize with Noor's plight when, y'know, mandatory military service is part of Iran? Something her brother has always known about and been prepared for? Something that MANY countries have? Get your !@#$ing nose out of his business, Noor. And if you're gonna be in it, maybe discuss it with him at literally any point of his existence? Would've saved everyone a lot of headache. And the next time you try to blackmail the US Government, someone needs to throw your ass into the deepest of deep dark pits until you have a change of heart. **** this -- I'm Team Javad. I like that dude. He's just a guy trying to do his job and flirting with the cute girl that works his desk. Why am I supposed to see him as some sinister douchebag? I think it's entirely because he buttons the top button of his collared shirts without wearing a tie. That's a dick move. |
The Righteous Gemstones ending really sucks but the final season begins March 9th.

I viewed this as prety realistic. People suck and do stupid shit. |
Quote:
The thing that bugs the **** out of me is that somehow Peter starts acting like the extraction fiasco was his fault. Rose also blames him and Noor blames him. The **** did he do wrong? The only people you can blame are Noor and her family. She doesn't let her family know she's trying to get them out. She finally decides to let her mom know, but ole mom doesn't let her son know, because she's afraid he'd run away, which to me sounds like he doesn't even wanna leave. The brother then tries to shoot a bad mother****er and ends up dead. Somehow the failings of the that family are turned into "**** you Peter! You got the brother killed!" Nah **** that noise. If I was Sami I would have noped the **** out of there the minute the brother starts being a dipshit. |
Javad is an Iranian statist - of course he's a bad guy. Come on man, this is Murica!
|
Quote:
I feel ya, Javad. You're just a hard man in a hard world trying to do an honest day's work. You can't help where you were born, brotha... #TeamJavad |

I mean this season STARTED with him shitting on himself over Alice. That's pretty much a key character trait for him. |
Dude it's basically a telenovela about the CIA. :D

Unfortunately new shit my wife wants to watch keeps starting but I really want to get through a re-watch of Peaky Blinders with her and that should last us for like, a year. May have it done in a week or so. |
I’m going to do a Peaky rewatch before long too. I live PEAKY ****IN BLINDAS!

Anyone watched
For All Mankind on AppleTV? I haven't checked the thread to see if it's in it , but was wondering if it's worth watching. |

Season 1 was pretty interesting if you like the alternate history stuff like Man in the High Castle. But for whatever reason, I got bored of it the further down the road they went. |
I gotta find a new hobby. I'm running out of shit to binge.

Bookies is A+... One of the funnies shows I have watched in a long while. I am actually surprised that Chuck Lorre and Charlie Sheen are working together again.

I tried to watch friends from college. Roughly my age, I like Cobie Smoulders, there are some funny but it’s way over the top and I couldn’t get into the cheating angle.
Maybe it was too close to home in terms of the ages, places in life, pop culture references that I couldn’t look past the ridiculousness. I wasn’t a fan of |

Still #TeamJavad Then again, I find Markus to be charming and effective. My moral compass is pretty obviously on the blink. But I like him WAY more than Tomas. |
"It's a rough town, people go missing all the time..."
THAT'S what I want out of my head of security! Attaboy Javad, just doing your portion my guy! And for the record, Peter is just ****ing awful at his job. I mean the damn worst. Seriously buddy, a bullet tire and you can't manage to keep the van on the road? And you just clubbed the ever loving **** out of my boy Javad but didn't take his gun from him? They're also doing that thing where they use really bad exposition to explain away story points. Right before Kathering finds him at his apartment my wife says "Why wouldn't they check his apartment" and I say "Well why would they even know where it is? Only he and Rose would've been there -- he wouldn't have told Katherine about it..." She shows up, pulls a gun on him and he says "Man, I knew I shouldn't have told you where this place was...." Oh **** me. I even called out how god-awful stupid that would be before it happened, the writers KNEW it would be god-awful stupid so they had to put a line of exposition in there to explain it. And then he says "shoot me" and I'm sitting there thinking "Wait a minute, she'd ****ing shoot him. Like. that's the foundation of her character..." Of course she doesn't. Maybe I don't like Javad as much as I just really do not like the protagonists at all. |
