"35 best American saisons that we drank for free because breweries sent them to us and nothing that we didn't drink for free, therefore we didn't even drink anything from Hill Farmstead, Tired Hands, Logsdon's, Jester King, Sante Adarius Rustic Ales, The Commons, Lost Nation, De Garde, or Casey."

Them and Cascade Ale House are about 6 blocks away from each other. Great day that was. |
i've found that Lagunitas IPA has become my go-to.
|
Turns out my place in Chicago is around the corner from Pipeworks Brewing. Anyone familiar with their brews?
|
Quote:
No, but let's find out... |
Ok, the names and labels of their beers are pure genius. LMAO
|
Keweenaw Brewing Company - Widow Maker Black Ale
Its just solid, not a world champion craft but definitely good. |
Pipeworks makes great beers. I'm a big fan of their Abduction Imperial Stout variants. They also make great IPAs. Keep an eye out for Citra Ninja or Ninja vs. Unicorn; they're both very good.

I've also heard good things about Spitefull Brewing in Chicago. |
I've had some great, hazy nights at both Local Option and Goose Island Clybourn too.
|
Local Option Is definitely on my list and a short Uber ride away. I'll note Goose Island Cylbourn. The Map Room is on my list as well.
I've been in a caloric deficit for 6 weeks gearing up for this summer. |
Quote:
That means you're also close to the Map Room - don't miss that one. Fantastic beer bar. |
Local Option is in my top 5 favorite beer bars I've ever been to.
|
Anyone going to Waldo Hopfest this weekend?
If so, come and say hello. I'll be pouring for Odell. |
Quote:
I got to pour for Boulevard at a beerfest last summer, it was an absolute blast. Have fun! :thumb: |
Yeah, they're a load of fun. I have considerably more fun as a worker bee than as an attendee. Once you get on the other side of the tables, it's hard to go back.
|
I've checked local stores and no boulevard zon. I checked the local store in my dad's kansas town and no boulevard zon. None of the stores could even order it. Starting to get fairly butt hurt.
|
With search being disabled, I'm not going to re-read multiple pages to possibly find an answer so...
The Calling - any good? Never been disappointed with a Smokestack Series beer, finally found a 4-pack of it and decided to give it a whirl. 25% off today at Whole Foods. |
Recently moved up to Wisconsin.
New Glarus brewery has some decent beer. However, zero Boulevard Brewing Company beers up here. :( |

What are their distribution states? |

Over to Cali but not here! Looks like some limited release in Utah. Who's up for going to Utard? |
Just wrote an email to them petitioning them to bring Boulevard Brewing to the City/State where the Royals hold their Spring Training! I mean seriously, how can you not have it here?!?!

I think their other IPA's have all been middle of the road, The Calling us really really good IMO. |
Quote:
Fantastic. I agree with you, the best IPA they make - and now on my short list of personal favorites. This is going to give Two Hearted a run for its money as my go-to, everyday drinker - and you guys know how I feel about TH. |
Got a pretty good "walk to" liquor store by me. I grabbed a 3 Floyds Yum Yum 6er (enjoying now) and 2 Pipeworks Ninja vs Unicorn off phishermans recommendation. They had a bunch of Surly cans as well.
My bank has already called me to verify charges at this place though as I've pretty much bought nothing but beer since getting to Chicago late Thursday. |
Goddamn. The Calling is dangerous. I'm almost three deep already at 8.5 ABV - and im probably a lightweight by CP standards.

Looks like that's available at Total wine here though!!! |

I am supposed to make the selections for a Beer Tasting party, and the 'theme' is beers with a religious connotation. My initial search showed me that religiously named beers tend to be pricier high end stuff - Even More Jesus was ~$16/22 oz. I don't mind one or two high end beers, but any more would blow the budget.
I am aware of the He'Brew line, and the stuff from Avery. Any suggestions? |

I'm really surprised that Boulevard isn't available here. In my two weeks here so far I've been told Wisconsins love to drink countless times. |

It feels so much clean and fresh than Kansas. And it isn't dreadfully hot. |
Got a response from Boulevard, Brewing. I'd now like you all to write in as well and claim that you would really enjoy KC Royals Spring Training with a Boulevard Brew in hand. I don't give two shits if you've never been here. You are all good at pretending so do me a favor. Thanks.
Here's the response. Quote:

Finally had the calling tonight. Damned good.

It might have just knocked Two Hearted Ale out of the #1 spot for me as a daily drinker. |
Picked up The Calling for my annual IPA purchase, chilling in the fridge... expecting big things after reading this thread, passed up Single Wide.
And also the only Yeti Espresso they had, my true love. And a port, because I'm going to try to taking the night off to watch some hockey, goddamnit. |
The Calling rules. It's in the style of Heady Topper moreso than any West Coast IPA. The leap that Boulevard made from being almost uninterested in IPAs (Double-Wide was outmodded even before it was released & Single-Wide is a not-as-good Two Hearted) to putting out The Calling is pretty significant.

Pretty good beer day on Sat. at a Pipeworks takeover.
Grapefruit saison http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/...psz2krhgtw.jpg Purple wild ale http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/...pstqmzuvfb.jpg Their Sure Bet Imperial IPA is one of the best beers I've ever had. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/...psrpdyqhwb.jpg |

Had this last night and probably another later today. Tasty stuff. I am not into fruity sours, this is more my style. |
Before noon Spiteful IPA before heading to Cubs/Royals.

After searching for two months I finally went to Wichita to get boulevard zon. Bought me 6-6pks and they are delicious. The two hour drive was well worth it. Also enjoyed a fat tire on tap. Can't get either of those beers in Oklahoma.
Greatest liquor store I've ever been to. Goebel liquor in Wichita. Has over 1600 different beers. |
Hit the (chocolate) jackpot lately... Chocolate Oak Yeti, Espresso Yeti, Southern Tier Choklat Oranj, the new Boulevard Chocolate Imperial Stout, Southern Tier Mokah.
Bought a 4 pack of Double Wide IPA for the hell of it, haven't had it in years. The Calling was pretty good, definitely a bump up in terms of quality/smoothness from *Wide, but I've always enjoyed those, too. |

Had a Sour Monkey and a Grapefruit Sculpin at lunch today.

driving that far you gotta grab at least one 4 pack of Tank 7....8/5% and scrumdillyicious. and while you're at it grab a bottle of Sixth Glass....10.5%. blvd has some good shizzle. when it's in season Bob's 47....oh my.... BBQ. if there is only one beer in heaven....it will be BBQ. o:-) |

Does anybody like the pop up IPA? I'm needing to try it. My uncle doesn't like IPA and said it was pretty good. I haven't liked IPA's either. I picked up a sixer of New Belgium Skinny dip. Haven't tried it yet. Anybody else? |

personally I'm not a big fan of pop up. blvd's The Calling is much better. having said that....maybe you'll like it....maybe you won't. if you ever get a chance to grab a six of Hopslam do so! it's only released once a year and even getting ONE six pack can sometimes be a big challenge. |
The main thing I didn't like about the IPA I tried, was the feeling of hops bouncing all over my mouth. If I remember right, I liked the taste just not that weird hoppy feeling.
|
Finally got the Boulevard Spring Belle down here.
Mainly because I'm a Reaper fanboy, I've become a saison drinker. I mean, I'm not an expert, but if I'm looking to pick up a new beer while at the store, I generally reach for a farmhouse/saison over others. As such, I was excited for this beer. Boulevard? Saison? Yay! Anyway, I like it quite a bit. It's certainly not Tank 7 or Saison Dupont, but it's tasty. There might be a little TOO much going on with it, in that it gets kind of confusing, presenting a few too many flavors. I have some weird prejudice against beers that overtly advertise adjuncts in them (which I acknowledge is a stupid prejudice), so I kind of expected to not enjoy this beer as much as I did. So yeah. I would drink again. |
