Weather shit is bearing down on me for the third day in a row. Constant thunder for the past 30 minutes. Just reporting 3” hail about 15 miles west. This is exhausting.

How did I not know this existed?

https://precip.ai/rainfall-totals/zipcode/75501

You can zoom in to your actual location in the ZIP.

I’ve gotten just over 7” in the past 24 hours, which means the past 17 because it didn’t start raining until 5pm yesterday. That’s a lot of rain in a place where houses don’t have basements because the water table is so high.

I wonder how accurate it is, and how do they get their information.

For example, you can move the map a little and it will show a slightly more or less rainfall amount.

:hmmm:

I grabbed the app and it allows for a specific address. I have no idea how it works, but it is consistent with all the other info I’ve read.

Doppler radar can estimate storms/rainfall/time and give an estimated amount of precipitation. Sure they are getting data from NWS , local TV radars and local weather stations.

That’s my assumption. KTBS3 Texarkana/Shreveport has what they claim is the most powerful Doppler radar west of the Mississippi (1 million watts). It’s what I watch during tornado warnings and it’s amazing what kind of stuff the live app shows.

I got out and went to town yesterday and it was bad, but not as bad as I expected. A lot of the problems here happen in the same places repeatedly, and there is never any real attempt to fix it. There’s video of a local bar that floods every couple of years, and people are still there wading through a foot of water. lol

The 12” whistle under my drive at the road rotted out a couple of years ago and I replaced it with an 18” version, which seems to have solved my individual runoff issue. I’ve got another 12” whistle about midpoint to the house where 2 creeks combine, and it did fine.

All in all, I’m happy. Tornadoes stayed away and no trees fell on the house.

Whistle?

After the first response, I went to FB with the question of regional versus age, and it appears to be very regional. I know “culvert”, but it’s always been a “whistle” to me. Maybe if people spent more time outdoors they’d understand.
