I just read on Ferentz' profile on the Iowa Hawkeyes website that he was the offensive line coach and assistant head coach with the Ravens/Browns. Not sure what the assistant head coach position included but perhaps he's already had a taste of the responsibilities of a head coach in the NFL. It also said he was the offensive line coach and defensive coordinator at the Worcester Academy back in the 70's (wherever the hell that is). Granted it's at a lower level but at least we know he should have a well rounded knowledge of both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, something that I don't believe can be said for Herm Edwards.

I was originally pretty down on the idea of Ferentz as head coach but I think i'm warming up to him a little bit. He's not my favorite guy out there but I'm going to trust our new GM to make a good hire.

I don't think there's been any inconsistency here.

There is a large group of people who have been clamoring for Pioli.

But there's a minority of people who would like to see Clark Hunt look in a different direction.

ChiefsCountry, Warpath and I, for instance, have talked about Eric DeCosta since Carl "resigned" (though I believe Warpath joined us a litte after).

I'm not going to whine and cry if it's Pioli.

He just isn't my first choice.

At least Clark appears to be looking in the right direction: Winning franchises.

Yes I realize this should probably go in the merged Pioli thread...

Reading the latest tea leaves, that puts Pioli in the Chiefs' wheelhouse. League sources tell me Pioli seems excited about the opportunity in Kansas City, which he's believed to be interviewing for Monday. Pioli still has to do his due diligence and thoroughly research the Cheifs' roster, but he's said to be high on some of the building blocks that Kansas City has in place (like offensive left tackle Branden Albert, and cornerbacks Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr).

The Chiefs are also in an enviable salary-cap situation, with at least $30 million of room to maneuver, and I don't think it hurts one bit that Pioli's wife was born and still has family in the Wichita, Kan., area. From a lifestyle perspective, Kansas City might be a better fit for Pioli than even Cleveland.

Interesting, that's more information on Pioli than we've heard in two weeks from the KC media. I can't believe our media guys can't do some basic research. All I've been hearing is that Pioli would have a hard time moving to the midwest because of his wife, and now we read that his wife actually has roots here? Go figure...

No! I don't want you to have him. I want him to stay in NE!

I thought his FIL was Bill Parcells, what does he have to do with Wichita?

This.

And FTR, I've DeCosta's been on my radar since he was named the youngest (at the time) Director of College Scouting in the NFL, back in 2003. I had a hunch even then that he'd eventually get his shot - Newsome and Co. do a phenomenal job up there, and NFL teams notice and steal them, like Savage and TJ McCreight.

Warpath was the one who got me hooked on DeCosta.

Parcells' disciples have faired better as coaches than those of Belicheck. It would be nice if he and Parcells had a long chat over xmas dinner about coaching possibilities should Pioli take the GM position.
