The guys who called George a low ceiling pick are getting a crow burrito.

Tamba Karlaftis is gonna be special and he’s already showing it.

Damn fine game tonight. Got his hands on lots of balls. LOL

He’s fighting through doubles and still being very disruptive.

What are OLs going to do for the rest of the year when they have to also account for Omenihu?

I think George will benefit from Charles being out there more than sone think. The guard that’s been doubling him will need to account for Charles now.

He was limited all this week, and sounds like they were pretty close to not playing him. He was supposed to be on a snap count.

Tied for 10th all time in most sacks among players who were under 23 years old. He's still just a kid and hasn't hit his prime.

He's gonna be a blue chipper real soon. Great draft pick

Good take.

I do the same with the 2013 draft. Kelce at 1.1 and Fishee in the 3rd makes that an incredible draft.

For as much as we shit on Veach for Moore, we don’t give him enough credit for Pacheco

Very comparable, though.

Not the longest arms.
Not fast Hali 4.87 Karlaftis 4.75
Elite pressures, had to grow into a finisher. Hali was top 5 in pressures each year in years 2-4 but couldn’t crack around 8 sacks. Karlaftis has the third highest pressure rate of the last 3 years, but topped out at 7.5 sacks.
High motor. Both play to the whistle every down. Non stop.
Naturally strong and understands leverage

Hali 6’3” 275 at combine
Karlaftis 6’4” 266 at combine

Both were born in other countries and have a chip on their shoulder.

Karlaftis is basically Tamba Hali X1.1

I bet he has a similar career trajectory, too. Likely even accelerated because of better tools and coaching for Karlaftis. Karlaftis (if he stays healthy) will probably get 7-9 sacks as a rookie this year. Tamba had 8 as a rookie.

I bet it takes Karlaftis 2 years before he breaks out with 11-13 sacks, but it’s only a matter of time till he does. He’s going to build his strength and pass rush moves. That breakout may even come sooner.

Nailed it

Time we talk about what a grown man performance George turned in for the Super Bowl.

Got in on a sack of Purdy, got a huge tone setting fumble recovery on the first drive (among 3 Niners) and constantly held his position against the run throughout the game.

What a ****ing sendoff to a stellar season for George.

We should send Brett Veach a Valentine. Watching GMFB and they've literally named over half the team as "unsung heroes". It ain't ever going to get any better than this run we're in right now peeps. Enjoy it and soak it all in.

Most of us were smart enough to realize what a great pick Karlaftis is, but I went as far as to say that he's going to be one of the best defensive players to ever wear a Chiefs uniform. His potential was apparent right from the beginning to anyone who was really paying attention. And I'll take it a step further and say that his incredible attitude and work ethic will have rubbed off on the entire defense within a year or two and that we'll turn into one of the best defenses in the league because of it.

That lateral agility of his is gonna come in handy. It’s right there with Aidan Hutchinson. It’s elite. And his work ethic is going to help him get better. He went from 25% body fat to 15% body fat while getting to 272 lbs.

I listened to his interview and he said he knew strength wasn’t enough. He would lift and then go work on his hand work by practicing hand combat MMA moves.

His floor is really high and I’m fine with that. We desperately needed a worker like him especially with Frank Clark’s problems.

Love that he can play all over the line as well. Can easily see him lining up next to Chris Jones on some situations

Good call. Motor and work ethic was apparent from day one. That's what made me realize that he wasn't going to be satisfied with being good. He's always been driven to be GREAT.

Run KC has a pretty damn good track record of being spot on. Boy loves his combine metrics and this team has nailed on some elite athletes that were under the radar a bit draft wise

Fish 09-23-2024 11:43 PM

George had a damn fine game yesterday. Didn't rack up much for stats, but he was all over the field causing the offense issues. He was key in many defensive stops regardless of getting stats for it.

Dante84 10-18-2024 11:11 AM

Just popping in to say it feels like George has been quiet this year, or perhaps I'm not watching close enough.

Has he had a drop off in pressures? Is it scheme? The opponents so far?

Too lazy to look it up so I figured I'd crowdsource it here.

1 sack in 5 games...

JPH83 10-18-2024 12:54 PM

He's been quiet but pretty solid. I think it depends on your expectations.

I've never thought Karlaftis will be a reliable 10+ sacks a year guy, or a guy who repeatedly and consistently wins and applies pressure. He's just not an athlete with a real calling card. Not quick, not super strong, not particularly bendy. He wins by being relentless.

The expectation imo is he becomes super reliable against the run and becomes a solid but not elite threat as a rusher. That'll be fine

RedinTexas 10-18-2024 01:00 PM

Chris Jones often moves up or down the DL to get a better matchup to rush the passer. It can work great for Chris getting more pressures, but might be taking away from others like Karlaftis. They seem to get along great though, so if it's not bothering him, it's not bothering me.

-King- 10-18-2024 02:03 PM

He's been solid but yeah I don't think he'll reach the 12+ sacks I thought he could get before the season started. A poster on Reddit posted about how his lack of 1 on 1 moves limits his numbers. Think that might be showing.

But all in all he's still great against the run and very solid against the pass. Works out perfectly for our defense.

MVChiefFan 10-18-2024 06:23 PM

Dude has 21 pressures and 8 QB hits. He’s been all over the QB, just not getting home. He’s doing just fine and I think the sacks will come.

Bump 10-18-2024 06:28 PM

even if he isn't getting sacks, he's still a valuable player. He plays the game well overall. He has a lot of pressures I think.

He also has one great ability, availability. Has the guy missed 1 start yet?

ptlyon 10-18-2024 07:07 PM

staylor26 12-16-2024 08:37 PM

Karlaftis gets way too much hate. He just can't be your best edge rusher, but he's a fantastic complement to a guy like Omenihu.

Bump 12-16-2024 08:40 PM

George is a good left end, he is an asset to the defense. He plays smart, is good against the run and gets pressures and some sacks. No need to hate on him at all. He's like an old school left end.

JPH83 12-17-2024 12:02 AM

I don't hate him, I just think he has been overrated by some. Maybe it's swinging too much the other way now. The problem with our DEs is they can't generate quick and consistent pressure, and I think Karlaftis has kinda become the embodiment of that. He's a hustler who gives full effort, he just doesn't have a real elite characteristic.

But we're crying out for speed from the edge.

GloryDayz 12-17-2024 05:09 AM

We are.

Spags isnt.

He has a true speed rusher on the roster now and seems content letting Chris Jones tell him to play Nose.

If Uche can't even get himself activated on gameday, Spags simply doesn't give a shit about speed rushers. He's wrong, IMO, but it is what it is.

smithandrew051 12-17-2024 07:19 AM

If all players on the team made the most of their physical ability like George, we’d have very few complaints.

Dunerdr 12-17-2024 07:57 AM

George is fantastic within the system. Unfortunately for a large part of this year the rest of the line has not been great. The last few weeks with Ohminihu back the lines had better rush integrity and hits showing up across the board.
