I am not a Will Ferrell fan to begin with.....guess I just don't get his humor. The only thing I have ever liked in his schtick is his impression of Harry Caray.

Any injury law firm that proudly proclaims, "You don't pay unless you win." DUH, that's basically universal.

And many times , after expenses, the client ends up possibly getting less than the attorneys.

You have no idea (or maybe you do).

My wife was part of a class action discrimination suit against one of the largest companies in the country. It took 15 years to settle and when all was said and done, she got about half what the lawyers did. The federal government took a sizeable chunk as well since the settlement was for "back wages". The company paid it out in installments, leading to getting two differentb1099's so she paid taxes twice.

In the end, she got about 20% net of her gross settlement amount.

There's a Chicago firm that does local commercials. Can't remember the name and I'm sure as hell not going to search for it and risk getting spammed by them. But they feature the named partner and his associate daughter, who is fat and ugly enough that she should be shilling for Jardiance, not working legal cases. I guess she's too big for a pony, so daddy put her on TV. In addition to screaming nepotism, neither has any charisma or can act well enough to sell a 30 second ad.

Definitely not the lawyers I would pick.

Many years ago I was hit by a young pizza delivery driver....a friend recommended an attorney firm who had gotten them a settlement.

I went to visit to see what their pitch would be and what they thought we could get. They talked and did make any promises which made me feel good that at least they were being up front.

I asked 2 questions that got answers I did not like.......

1) Given X as the amount we could get how much would I take home....the answer is what drove me to ask the second question...

2) Just how much up front costs/expenses do you estimate based on prior cases like mine? The answer floored me and told me that a suit would not be worth my time/benefit.

I actually walked away better not filing...

Those class action suits are a scam. Especially those that advertise on TV. They are out to make money for the firm instead of those really affected.

About 30 years ago now, a former roommate of my wife used her personal info to open several utility accounts in her name. The scumbag bitch didn't pay the bills, and eventually all those companies started coming after the wife to collect. She was easily able to prove that she had never lived in the locations associated with the bills, and all of them stopped bothering her except Ameritech (now Verizon). They'd come after her, she'd produce the proving documents, they'd go away for a few months, and then come after her again. This went on for a couple of years. Then they reported her to credit bureaus and sicced a really annoying collection agency on her. At that point we had had enough and hired a lawyer (we weren't married yet but lived together). He was a nasty ****er, and very effective. In the end, she won the case, the collection agency went out of business, and she ended up with a $12K settlement. The attorney, IIRC, collected about ten times that for himself. But we got $12K, so what the hell. It actually became established case law, although I don't know if it still is.

The pharma commercial with the homos gazing longingly at each other is nauseating.

Haven’t seen it but I’m guessing it’s named something like Xyzeltzeryx and treats anal fissure plaque psoriasis
