Y'know, I was curious about that. I'm not a lifter so I don't know right from wrong, but I was looking at that and thinking that it couldn't possibly be proper technique. It seems like he's just asking to blow out his back (and his stomach, apparently).

Exactly. If he’s been lifting like that for any length of time I would be amazed that he hasn’t blown his back out already.
