Louisville winning, OTOH, could be a real problem.

So if SEC gets left out of the playoff altogether, you don’t think that hurts Mizzou if both Bama and Georgia gobble up NY6 non-playoff spots?

I guess it’s just the whole ‘because Mizzou’ thing. I’m going into this expecting them to get screwed because they always do.

Maybe it doesn’t happen this time, but I can’t prep myself for anything else unfortunately.

ChiefsCountry 12-02-2023 10:30 PM

Louisville is going to the Orange Bowl regardless win or loss. ACC has tie in that their highest rated non-playoff team goes there. ACC team will play the highest rated SEC or Big Ten team.

BryanBusby 12-02-2023 10:40 PM

If the CFP committee does its job, FSU is in the orange bowl.

Okay. So assuming playoff is 1. Michigan 2. Washington 3. FSU 4. Texas (due to H2H win over Bama), likely Louisville vs. Bama in the Orange Bowl. (Yikes. Talk about a mismatch)

Peach Bowl will take Georgia, undoubtedly.

So that leaves two possible landing spots for Mizzou. Either Fiesta or Cotton.

Mizzou vs. Penn State in Fiesta? Seen that as a possibility.

Could see Mizzou in Cotton too (history there), but not sure who opponent would be?

dlphg9 12-02-2023 11:19 PM

Totally messed up if they keep Florida State out of the playoffs just because their starting QB is out. You know we'd be pissed if we were in that exact situation. You cannot punish a team, because of an injury.

I think the playoffs should be

#1 Michigan
#2 Washington
#3 Florida State
#4 Alabama

I think Alabama gets in over Texas, even though they lost H2H, for a couple of reasons.

1. The win was so long ago. It was the 2nd game of the season and before the teams got to ramp up.

2. Bama has 11 straight wins now, including the SEC championship game.

3. Bama had a bit tougher overall schedule than Texas. Bama's opponents went 98-61 and Texas's opponents went 91-67. Bama also played 4 opponents ranked in the top 13, including the #1 team and went 3-1. Texas played 3 top 25 teams (#8, #12, #19) and went 2-1. The rankings are from the college football playoffs rankings and will obviously change and more than likely #19 OK State drops out of the top 25, so that puts Texas at just 2 games in the top 25 rankings at the end of the year.

This is how I think the rankings will go. This isn't what I would do. Quite frankly I don't know what I'd do.

BryanBusby 12-02-2023 11:25 PM

Literally the whole entire point over the committee instead of BCS rankings is to account for things math formulas can't account for.......like a critical injury.

ChiefsCountry 12-02-2023 11:28 PM

If Bama and Georgia don't make the CFP and get thrown into the bowls. I think Mizzou might have to play Liberty in that situation.

In that scenario:
Orange - Louisville vs Alabama
Cotton - Ohio State vs Oregon
Peach - Georgia vs Penn State
Fiesta - Mizzou vs Liberty

BryanBusby 12-02-2023 11:40 PM

Should be

1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas
4. Alabama

Orange - FSU vs Oregon
Cotton - Penn St vs Georgia
Peach - Ole Miss vs Liberty
Fiesta - Missouri vs Ohio State

Oregon can't play in the Orange Bowl. It has to be the highest ranked team between the SEC and Big Ten.

Rams Fan 12-03-2023 12:07 AM

If Florida St. isn't in the CFP, I think it's wrong. Yes, I recognize the injury at QB, but at the same time, you cannot disregard a team going undefeated in the ACC over the course of an entire season to make room for a team that admittedly struggled the first quarter of the season and has since played much better while losing to a Texas team at home that won the B12.

Georgia's also going to get ****ed (rightfully or wrongfully) for losing a conference championship game by a close margin, which is the same exact shit TCU did last year and got rewarded for losing when they did.

The loss didn't come in the final game of the year and they've had 2 games that they've won. The last one was against a 10 win top 15 team. They have a damn good D and a damn good running game.

I don't think Texas gets in. It'll be Alabama or Georgia that get in. Like what is Texas's case over Georgia? That they beat Alabama in week 2?

Yes, and they won their conference championship with 1 loss the entire season.

Georgia doesn't have any win that compares to Texas over Alabama.

I also cannot see how one can argue Alabama over Texas when Texas won at BDS, won their conference, and their only blemish was to a top 15 team on a neutral site.

Pretty accurate prognostication so far. Except Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

1. Michigan

I think Alabama is going to smoke Michigan. Alabama has the best team/QB combo left. Penix is better than Milrore (though less dynamic as a runner), but Milroe has made huge strides and is such a threat in the run game.

I don't think JJ McCarthy and the Michigan pass game are good enough to make consistent plays against Alabama's front.

I think we see a UT/Bama rematch, with Bama winning.

But not sure I saw anyone being driven crazy over it.

So I say SEC Network will show the game at the horseshoe in the '70's when Mizzou beat the Buckeyes in a last minute thriller.

IIIRC, Leo Lewis made the plays at the end and Pete Woods was the QB.

No idea what their QB depth chart is, but I suspect they have some 5* in the wings and any season that doesn't end in a playoff appearance is going to create a QB competition.

He may well figure he's not long for the starting gig at OSU (and from what I've seen of them this year, he probably shouldn't be. OSU has an NFL wide-receiver room; McCord was a glorified JUGS machine and little else).

Cody Schrader, who led the SEC with 1,499 rushing yards and leads the country with 124.92 yards per game, was a unanimous first-team selection by the panel. He was one of five players named on every ballot. Schrader is a finalist for the Burlsworth Award for the nation's best player who began his career as a walk-on. The winner will be announced at 7:00 Monday night.

Joining Schrader on the first-team were wide receiver Luther Burden III (83 receptions, 1197 yards, 8 touchdowns), offensive tackle Javon Foster, defensive end Darius Robinson (12 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks) and cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine (11 pass breakups, 4 interceptions). Alabama was the only other team with five players selected to the first team.

Offensive guard Cam'Ron Johnson and kicker Harrison Mevis were second-team selections, giving the Tigers seven all-conference players overall.

Is that the easiest college football award ever given?

It could've been exclusive to graduate students who transferred from Truman State to a Missouri Division 1 football program and he'd have been no MORE likely to win it than he was.

There was a 100% chance he won that award.

Oh by the way, Drake Stoops being a finalist for that award because he 'walked on' for daddy's team despite scholarship offers to several division one programs is just a massive pile of shit.

Think they were thinking about silver spoon legacy 'walk-ons' when they established the award? That kid should've never been a walk on in the first place and even allowing him as a nominee completely disregards the spirit of the award.

I see that the Toriano Pride transfer already shared. But here's a short article about it anyway.
After several weeks of rumors, the first news of Mizzou’s Football transfer portal season has dropped.

Toriano Pride, 247 Sports’ No. 1 transfer cornerback and the No. 12 player overall, is transferring to Mizzou after two seasons at Clemson.

In two seasons at Clemson, Pride played in 26 games, amassing 37 tackles, nine pass breakups a sack, an interception and a forced safety. He’ll come to Columbia looking for immediate playing time given the departure of Kris Abrams-Draine and (potentially) Ennis Rakestraw.

I'm gonna miss Ennis.

He should probably go pro but it's still gonna be a bit of a bummer. 4 year starter who was a bright spot as a true frosh. A Tiger when it wasn't cool and a guy who's developed a lot here and been a leader almost the entire time.

Good player and great tiger who's stayed under the radar a bit. I hope the fans remember him - he's been about the only constant through the last several seasons.

I wouldn't be surprised if they snagged another RB from the portal as well. The frosh 5* didn't get much run so I figure they'll look to bring in two veteran backs to replace Peat and Schrader and try to work the freshman in a little more next season.

10 to 11 wins if we can press forward in 2024

I like seeing Vandy, South Carolina, and Arkansas still on the schedule.

I was having this convo with a friend tonight about starting a 5* QB year 1. Somehow Gabbert came up but can't remember wasn't he the day 1 started at Mizzou?

No he was behind Chase Daniel during his freshman year. He'd got 1 series in a few games but that was it.

Evidently this one completely blindsided the OU folks and the rumors are that the family went out shopping the kid to various NIL sources without really looping him in until they got a deal they liked.

If some of this stuff is even half true, it's unsavory as hell.

Just more of the stuff I've been bitching about - the unfettered free agency of every single player on every single team in college football every single offseason just doesn't feel tenable to me.

I don't know how this can possibly sustain.

Mizzou's schedule for 2024 is setup for a huge season and a CFP berth with a potential home playoff game.
