Thinking about this more, the only thing that makes sense to me is ownership stupidity. Like they didn't want to pay the higher levels of the tax to give Luka the supermax, and thought they could sell it to the fanbase if they got a "big name".

Luka clearly wanted out. Mavs front office throwing shade by saying he is fat and lazy in conditioning (and well he is) but there is still no way they would unload him unless they had to.

Mavs got much worse. I don't see how the Lakers got a ton better. They will miss ADs defense massively on a team set up like that. AD is a good scorer obviously but the Mavs already have Gafford and Lively for defense and rebounding. Just makes no sense for the Mavs at all.

Lakers must trade someone for a rim protector now. Their defense is already trash and now they probably are legitimately the worst defensive team in the NBA with Luka.
