I think it just needs to be played out. I doubt Pioli stays. Even if you do like him in a role, its going to be a pretty awkward situation. Even if the Chiefs win Pioli is going to lose. Hell, he will look worse.

There's a few things I wonder about.

Is that contractually allowed for Hunt to neuter Pioli like this? If so... it could be a move to get Pioli to resign on his own terms.

A second point might be that Hunt wants Pioli to aid in the transition, particularly the draft. The Chiefs don't have a scouting director. Pioli is the scouting director. So if you lose Pioli, you lose a lot of intelligence on the current draft class. Heckert has some of that having worked with the Browns, but we saw what happens when the new GM arrogantly freezes out the last regime's scouting network. I am being clearly overly optimistic, but maybe they keep him around for the draft, then make some kind of a move.

In either case... I don't see Pioli taking well to this role. And I can't see how he'd want to stick around and be somebody else's bitch.

no real info on why Pioli is temporarily staying but the assumption by everyone is that Clark extended Pioli sometime this year or right before this year and Clark wants to get something out of his millions or shame the guy into quitting and saves him millions.

it's really the only thing that makes sense.
