Man Hali mentoring this kid is just awesome.

RunKC 04-06-2023 08:19 AM

Yeah go ahead and put this guy down as the breakout player next season. His drive to succeed and effort got him 6 sacks last year and the first half of the year he was so close to getting more.

Now that he is working on the technical side of the game he’ll be ready for primary and countermoves.

He really was just kinda winging it out there using his college knowledge and effort. Now he’s gonna have that experience and training really pay dividends.

He’s definitely getting double digit sacks this year barring injury

Hali was a BOSS hand-fighter. He got so much more out of his athleticism than I ever imagined he would because that guy had moves on moves and always had a hell of a plan out there.

Now if he could avoid teaching Karlaftis to get held in a manner that seemingly NEVER draws a flag, that would be great. Because I'm pretty sure it was legal to actually shoot Tamba Hali on a football field.

I'll never forget the mecca was it? "Tamba Hali can stand right up and get out of town" ROFL

Oh I'm sure I said some dumb shit w/r/t Hali.

I know I couldn't have been a fan of the OLB conversion - he just didn't seem to have the athleticism for it.

Some days the bear eats you...

I always thought Hali would be a good one. I just never envisioned he'd be an outstanding OLB in a 3-4. I thought he was a guy, especially after watching him play college ball, that they would use like they use some of their DE's now, moving him around the line to create mismatches.

Dunerdr 04-06-2023 12:33 PM

Man it's hard not to be impressed by this guy. Trained with Stroupe last off season (maybe still is?) And is working out with an all time Chiefs great on details of the job. No matter where he ends up career wise in the end i'll respect the hell out of him for the work hes putting in.

He's all about getting better. You couldn't ask for much more from the guy. The improvements he showed from TC to the SB were huge and if he can learn to chain moves/counters together he'll be a pretty consistent 9/10 sack a year guy.

BossChief 04-06-2023 01:14 PM

Funny story.

While we were at camp, we were right next to George’s girlfriend chatting with her and after practice, George came over and in that couple minutes I mentioned to him how I think he’s similar to Tamba Hali and how he should reach out to him because some of the training he did may really help him. He said he would.

I wonder if that’s how that started or the coaching staff reached out to Tamba, or if Tamba reached out directly to George.

Fun to think that I may have played a role in them working together.

Kiimo 04-06-2023 01:16 PM

I could EASILY see Karlaftis just getting completely absorbed in MMA training. He seems like a perfect fit for that.

That makes him like 800% more dangerous and i'm not talking about football. That guy with MMA training is like a bar brawl nightmare opponent

Tamba is the perfect teacher for George. His rep coming from college, like George's, was as an unpolished but "high motor" prospect. While Hali was seen to be raw, he proved to be a consistent worker on his craft. The ju jitsu had a significant impact on his effictiveness. Teamed with his "try hard" nature (and his natural athletic strengths), Hali turned into one of the best. I'm pleased George appears to be going the same route.

He did. I always thought he played above his athleticism. It's a testament to his motor, work ethic, and willingness to take on other things to make him improve his game like ju jitsu.

Every time I hear crybaby fans from other teams bitch about the Refs "helping the Chiefs" I think of all the times they missed choke holds teams choke holding Tamba Hali on his path to the quarterback. Imagine how many more sacks he'd have if they'd call those penalties and they stopped choke holding him.

My guess The Greek is going to run into similar problem but I hope the refs call it this time.

Here’s a pic I took of her before I struck up a conversation about halfway through practice. She was actually very down to earth and cool to talk to. We were a few feet back from everyone for awhile and I do t think anyone even recognized her till George came over after practice and after he spent sone time with Frank on “get off” reps snd conversations they were having about what to look for pre snap and technique to immediately transition from first to second move.

I’ll post pictures of them working together a few feet away from us, too.

I really think he's one of those guys that while he never has a 15-sack season he won't ever have a 4-sack season either.

He seems like a guy that's going to constantly contribute 8-10 sacks every year, year in and year out.

I love stories like this.

It reminds me of the time I was living in Dallas as a young man, attending college at the University of Texas at Arlington. I would frequently go to Rangers games.

One game Pat Mahomes was there pitching, and I happened to see a young boy on the field shagging fly balls before the game.

The elder Mahomes came over to sign autographs and I asked him who the young child was in the outfield, displaying such raw, dazzling athletic talent. He told me that was his son, and he was going to be a great baseball player some day.

"Mr. Mahomes, your son should play football. He looks like a quarterback to me."

Pat Sr. smiled and said "Yeah, but he'll never be a first round pick, fatboy."

Fun to think that I may have played a role in the rise of the Kansas City Chiefs dynasty.

It was weird taking it, tbh. I was pretty sure it was her so I took a quick shot so I could make sure it was her before saying hi. I just walked next to her and said I think her boyfriend is going to be one of our best players and she she asked me a couple questions. Whole thing wasn’t more than 5 minutes. When I mentioned the part about Tamba to George after practice that was literally like 15 seconds and wasn’t like we were having a conversation in any way. I just made the comment to him when he walked over to say hi to his gf and he acknowledged it. That’s the whole of it.

George and Skyy were guys I consistently had in my mocks at 29/30 as hopefully our first rounders. I’ve also consistently said I think Tamba is his closest comp in conversations on here.

I’ll keep sharing these things in the future.

So it must have not happened in January.

(I felt bad making that joke, but it had to be done.)

Who pats them on the back more for things they didn't do but claim they had a part - BossChief or Big Red Chief?

Titty Meat 06-21-2023 09:26 PM

Nothing will compare to trading up getting Mahomes but I think you can make a strong case grabbing McDuffie/Karlatis at the end of the first might be the 2nd best first round draft for the Chiefs both guys played absolutely brilliant for us as rookies

In 6 of the last 7 regular season games George had atleast half a sack. Logged a sack and TFL in the AFC title game. Kid is ****ing good

More importantly, he's developing.

He also had a sack in the playoffs.

Think he ends up with 12 sacks this year and takes a really big step forward.
