Kong was unexpectedly brutal. Toed the line between PG 13 and R.

Frazod 03-25-2017 10:55 PM

Just watched Assassins Creed. I really enjoyed it. I did play some of the games, so I guess that helped, although they really altered the story.

Jenson71 03-27-2017 05:53 PM

Nocturnal Animals was a solid, but not great, moody drama. I expected more of a thriller than it is, and that was a letdown. Amy Adams, especially with Arrival, is one of my favorite actresses these days. And that Hitchock/Hermmanian score!

ThaVirus 03-30-2017 09:37 PM

I just finished Moana. Good Lord, that movie was beautiful. It was probably the best animation I've ever seen.

Unexpected side effect: I really want to go to Hawaii.

ThaVirus 03-30-2017 09:40 PM

Underworld: Blood Wars wasn't very good. The lore built through the first three movies was really intriguing, I thought, but now they've just gone off the rails.

First the elders were the most powerful, then it was the hybrids, then it was the progenitors, then it was those with the pure Corvinus blood, then it was that weird genetically engineered super Lycan, now it was homeboy Marius or whatever in the latest. Plus those blonde monk vamps? Shit was weak.

Assassin's Creed was also a bit of a letdown. I suppose it was better than any video game has any business being, but it was completely forgettable.

I watched it in theaters with my daughter that was 2 and a half at the time. That lava monster scared the shit out of her. She was too bull headed to not watch it but she was terrified.

I could definitely see that scaring a small child.

I tried watching Underworld, it was really bad. Even the acting seemed bad, but maybe I'm missing something.

****ing damn good movie though.

Yeah, it was shit.

I guess it's to be expected after the 5th or 6th or whatever installment. Rarely are series that go on this long still quality after the third or fourth go.

But damn.. this shit has fallen hard. I thought the first three were actually extremely entertaining.

Same shit, but thanks for educating me. I don't recall it being mentioned during the movie.

I've been dreaming of going to Bora Bora and Tahiti for years now based on pics I've seen. The shit looks SO ****ing beautiful.

Unfortunately airfare alone is like $1,000+ per person so I figure Hawaii is the next best option.

**** that was a perfect film in every way.

Buehler445 03-31-2017 06:30 PM

Zombieland was on sci-fi. I forgot how good that movie was at what it tried to be.

Pueblo Chieftan 03-31-2017 06:43 PM

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. It's an older movie, unless you haven't seen it, in which case, it's more-or-less new...(ish)

Watched Fences. Great acting but there was no resolution to the plot. Credits roll and you're just stuck there wondering what was the point of everything.

Went and saw Kong Skull Island.

I think people make themselves like it because they want to sound smart. That's why there are so many wildly varying interpretations of what happened in the movie.

Why Him? with Bryan Cranston and James Franco sucked but was worth a few laughs.

The Great Wall was.. ridiculous. In so many ways.

The Bye Bye Man was a shitty horror flick but actually more enjoyable than I thought it'd be so it's worth a look if you're a scary movie lover.

Dr Strange was awesome and much funnier than I expected.

It was so bad. Damon had this shitty Scottish or Irish accent for no apparent reason and the way they were waging war against these ridiculous monsters was so over the top. They legit had these chicks bungee jump off the Wall with spears lol it made absolutely no sense.

I had put Strange off in much the same way. I think I just assumed it'd be bad with the magic and what not but I was pleasantly surprised. Now I'm actually excited to see hot they incorporate him into the Infinity War.. I highly recommend it.

The first part of Strange dragged a little to me. Within like the first 20 minutes I was thinking to myself that this movie was going to take forever. Then I found myself at the end of the movie wondering why it was already over. It was a damn good movie in my eyes.

Saw "Land Of Mines" last week. Danish movie tells the true story of WWll German prisoners being forced to clear land mines from Danish beaches after the war. The Danes were bitter, portrayed them as Gestapo like.

ThaVirus 04-17-2017 08:19 PM

Watched Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time today.

Age aside, it was enjoyable. For some reason I love Ford's screaming. That opening scene where he's running from the tribesmen screaming for the guy to start the engines makes me laugh.

Also, I had no idea it was about supernatural shit and mysticism. I saw Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and just thought maybe they were taking the franchise in a new direction. Are Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade the same?

Yeah they both are and Last Crusade was the other great one. General complaints about Crystal Skull were diverting from theme to include ****ing aliens and overall absuderty of many scenes.

Like that refrigerator scene. Ugh.

I will say I actually enjoyed that film though. I can tell you it wasn't a good movie, but I did enjoy it. I think I just like the psuedo archaeologist/treasure hunter/adventurer vibes.

Thinking about it, I bet this franchise had a huge influence on the Tomb Raider series.

Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been co-existing since the beginning of time. watched "Jason Bourne" last night.
My wife and I are big fans of the series. but my god.....that movie was HORRIBLE.

the camera work got old really fast; entire movie is basically Bourne walking at a fast pace somewhere. Felt like his character said probably a total of 50 words. Tommy Lee Jones was reduced to speaking 3 to 6 word lines it seemed. Plot?....I'm not even sure what the plot was. Hardly even recognized Julia Stiles, but she was only around at the beginning and during the seemingly 30 minute car/motorcycle chase.

This move felt like it was some contractual obligation to do one more Bourne movie, they started shooting, and they just winged it. a "let's get the band back together for another concert/tour" feel to it. Such a disappointment.

Buehler445 06-21-2017 10:58 PM

I finally saw the Accountant. I can't remember what the consensus was on here, but I thought it was really good.

I don't know much about autism. I can't and absolutely will not comment on the accuracy of the portrayal of the autistic characters.

The accounting was wonky. The conclusions he drew were not verifiable without a mountain of paperwork. And in that timeframe, even with a savant guiding the search, would take some pretty serious computing horsepower to correlate the conclusion and sift through the noise. But that's a minor quibble.

I bought in, and the story was good. Didn't see the twist. Should have, but didn't.

Afleck did well, Bernthal killed it. The symmetry of their emotional responses after the fight was tremendous. Beautiful filmmaking there. Well done from all involved.

Was it perfect? No. Was it a good movie? IMO yes.

Dayze 06-22-2017 12:46 PM

In the movie Bourne is earning his money by street fighting but after he knocks a guy out he just walks away, the movie didn't explain why he was doing it the first time he fought. You would think Bourne would go up to the main guy to get his pay before he goes to his car.

There is alot of truth to this. The movie I have been working on for two years was just canceled for many reasons, but mostly because it didn't fit into existing marketing quadrants. This movie was the 2nd best, out of over 30 credits, I have worked on in 22 years and would have been something really fresh out of a super stale "talking animal" animated movie genre. We all loved it dearly and are heartbroken that the studio doesn't see what we do, and consequently no one will see it.

Yeah, I watched it recently. I did enjoy it but don't have any misconception about it being any good.

Bourne wrecked fools. I enjoy watching Bourne wreck fools. And that's about all there was to it. I did have an inkling that Bourne might die because eventually his story has to wrap up and they waxed Julia Styles to add some weight.

The real problem is they could have used footage from any of the bourne flicks. Him hiding in plain sight was very played out and really took me out of the movie. The story was largely crap also. But it was always an excuse for Bourne to wreck shit.

It was a halfhearted cash grab. But Bourne wrecked fools so whatever.

DeepPurple 06-28-2017 11:02 AM

I couldn't believe how bad the Bourne was, and I saw it in the theater where action movies usually look better. I did enjoy the previous Bourne with Jeremy Renner. It was on HBO and I must of watched 15 times, especially the first hour. I like it when he at the cabin in the snowy mountains and then later when he goes after those people in that house. He comes out of that closet all hell breaks loose.

I wasn't expecting much from 47 Meters Down yet it still managed to disappoint. The constant screaming became annoying to the point I was rooting for the characters to die. I think it could've benefited from an All Is Lost type of feel with waaaay less cheesy dialogue fronting as being serious. The shark effects didn't make it worth it either. Thumbs down.

It was just ok.

Wasn't expecting much but Fantastic Beasts was pretty enjoyable.
