I am excited to have a night game finally that I can watch at home instead of watching on the internet at work.

Only games I've been able to watch are the two weekend games. |
Looking at the hourly forecast, they might be able to get an official game past 5 innings, maybe. If so, it probably wont go all 9, so if they play we need to score early.
We'll probably end up with a double-header on Wednesday, especially if they end up with a suspended game tonight (tied after 5 innings). The forecast tomorrow has light showers tapering off by 4 or 5, so they ought to be able to play 2 tomorrow if they are willing to wait long enough. Both teams have a day off on Thursday, so they could do Thursday afternoon, but practically no one would show up, and they probably don't want to take away off days that were meant for travel if a double-header is easily doable. |

I have a feeling we'll get tonight's game in OK.
|
They should move the game up to 6 pm to make sure they get the game in, but with the royals averaging 40K this year at the ball park, not sure the workers could handle it.

I am off tonight and tomorrow.
Hoping the weather holds off so I can at least watch the games from home! And run that winning streak up to four games! |

THE CRIMEDOG FRED MCGRIFF COULD HANDLE IT.

Does anyone think the Royals will top the 2 million mark for attendance this season? Hasn't happened since 1991.

Let's do an all-futility team for the Royals. Players must have played in at least 25 games in one of the last five seasons.
Here is my lineup: C: Jason Kendall 1B: Ross Gloaf 2B: Yuni 3B: Mark Teahen SS: Tony Pena Jr. LF: Gregor Blanco CF: Josh Anderson RF: Rick Ankiel DH: Mike Jacobs I think I'm too depressed to do pitchers right now, but let's set a minimum of 5 starts in a season to qualify. |

why not kyle davies?

Sanchez, Mazzaro, and O'Sullivan have to be in the conversation.
|
we should do last 20 seasons and see what obscure names we can dig up? ill start: Calvin Pickering

OK...I've done some thinking on this one.
Here's my all time terrible Kansas City Royals 25 man roster. Now, my criteria is this: •Players had to spend a decent amount of time actually playing and affecting games, sucking like a hoover. OR... •Player had to have cost us a high draft pick or a shitload of money and delivered NOTHING in return, OR.... •Player had to be acquired in a one-sided terrible trade and burned the team, OR.... •Player had to have been a total A-HOLE and clubhouse cancer. Here it is: 1B: Ken Harvey 2B: Terry Shumpert SS: Neifi Perez 3B: Craig Pauquette C: Ed Hearn LF: Kevin McReynolds CF: Dee Brown RF: Juan Gonzalez DH: Mike Jacobs Starting Pitchers: Scott Anderson Kyle Davies Dan Reichert Runelvys Hernandez Jonathan Sanchez Relievers: Brian Anderson Yasuhiko Yabuta Mark Davis Vin Mazzaro Albie Lopez Closer: Ricky Bottalico Bench: Yuni Betancourt Mark Quinn Tony Pena Jr. Calvin Pickering Mike DiFelice Now that's a stench! |
Remember when Tony Pena Jr batted with 1 hand and got a hit lol
|
No Doug Henry or Blowberto?
|
Shumpert doesn't seem to meet your criteria. McReynolds wasn't that bad, and Hearn got hurt. Not sure they belong on the list.
Quinn wasn't a bad player, either. Neither was Pickering, and I'm not sure how be fits the profile, either. |
No list is complete without Chuck Knoblauch or Juan Gonzalez on it.
And good lord, George. That roster would be hari-kari worthy if it were real life. |
Quote:
Pickering: 2 years in KC: 8 HRs, 56Ks. McReynolds is what we got from the Mets for Saberhagen. In 2 years with KC, he hit .246. He was out of baseball a year later. Hearn is what we got for David Cone. Yes, he was hurt, but that trade really cost us. Cone made it back to KC as a Free Agent and won a Cy Young in 1994, then the Royals traded him again in 1995. Quinn in four years hit .282 which is great, but it was a very hollow .282. He K'ed 184 times and only walked 56 times, only hit a total of 45 homers (that's 11 per year) from a power position (outfield). And his outfield play and fielding was atrocious. He also put himself on the DL, getting hurt Kung-Fu Fighting with his brother. Bonehead. |

Nice list George. No Storm Davis?

It is possible that I'm just trying to block memories of all the "talent" that we had come through our own system to arrive in the bigs and only watch them poop all over themselves. |

Who we actually traded Kevin McReynolds for....ROFL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vince_Coleman |

Remember when Mark Quinn failed to walk in 1000 at bats, then when he walked they set off the fireworks at the K...

I remember this story because I was painting my house and was listening to the Royals. I think Hal McRae was manager. Anyway, we had a double header with Milwaukee. They send Mark Davis out to start. He gives up like six or seven runs in the first inning. McRae pulls him and tells him to get ready, because he's going to start game two of the double header because he only pitched an inning. Between games, Davis decides to shave off his beard and moustache. So in game two, a newly clean shaven Davis strides to the mound... And proceeds to give up five runs in the first inning of the second game. Gets bounced to the bullpen, and never starts again. On a side note, I was at the game where Mazzaro gave up 13 runs to Cleveland in one inning. Kyle Davies started that game, btw.... |

Remember when Posnanski was doing a town hall with Costas, and someone asked them why they thought run-scoring was up in MLB, and someone in the audience yelled, "Bottalico!!!"
|
Bob Hamelin was pretty awful except for that 1 year.

All suck team for me would be
Shane Costa Joey Gathright Rick Ankiel Doug Menkevich Yuni betencourt Tony Pena JR Rueben Gotay Kelly Stinnett |

At that point, he had failed as a closer, so they were trying him in the rotation. Like Hoch now, they were paying him big bucks for the time, and wanted to find a use for him. After he failed as a starter, they put him in spot relief, but never as a closer again. When he got to KC, he was just a poster child for failure. |
Remember Kerry Robinson going back tooo the track climbing the fence and having the ball bounce on the warning track. Grimsley getting hit in the face by ken harvey throwing home. Sweeney getting hit in the back by a cutoff throw. Ken Harvey getting hit in the back by a cut off throw.
|
Jim Eisenreich kinda creeped me out......but he was an ok utility player.
|
Eisenreich had Torets syndrome and had to tell the umpires that if he cussed at him it was because of his disease. He was a great ball player from the land of Minnisota.
|
heh, i remember telling friends "Jeremy Giambi" is gonna be huge!
|
Mark Davis career stats with Royals:
3 years, 9-13 record. Started 14 games. Had 7 saves in three years. 5.31 ERA In 168 innings pitched, gave up 168 hits, 139 Ks, 119 walks. And they paid him around $9 million dollars in 1990's money. I was wrong about his years here. It was 1990-1992. Sabes won 2 Cy Youngs as a Royal, 1985 and 1989. So in 1990, we had both Cy Young winners. |

David Howard and Jim Pittsley have to be on the horrid list somewhere.

How about favorite Royals who weren't very good?
I loved Mike McDougle...Rusty Meachem, too. Bob Hamelin was awesome. Warren Cromartie Hubie Brooks |
